Traumatic pistol MP-81 chambered for 9mm PA

Traumatic pistol MP-82 chambered for .45 Rubber

The MP-81 traumatic pistol was produced by the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant by converting it from TT combat pistols. The MP-81 pistol was first introduced in 2008. The MP-81 traumatic pistol uses widely used 9mm RA traumatic cartridges. There is also the possibility of using gas or blank cartridges, but in this case the automation will not work and the next cartridge will have to be inserted into the chamber manually by pulling back the bolt-casing. The MP-82 traumatic pistol differs from the MP-81 model in the cartridge used - .45 Rubber, the magazine capacity is two cartridges less and the height of the weapon is slightly higher.

The automatic operation of the MP-81 and MP-82 pistols operates based on the use of blowback recoil. The lugs located on the Tokarev pistol on the inner surface of the bolt casing have been removed. The barrel, swinging on the earring, as in the TT, does not have the ability to engage with the bolt-casing, in which a pin is installed to block the barrel. The trigger mechanism is hammer type, single action, with safety cocking. The box-shaped single-row magazine, like the TT, holds 8 rounds. The magazine release is located on the left side of the frame, at the base of the trigger guard. The quality of the pistol conversion is not stable.

In general, the MP-81 is a working model of a Tokarev pistol, from which you can, on occasion, shoot like a real military weapon, and in addition, it can be used as a sports training weapon. Of course, this pistol is a weapon of self-defense, but only when storing it at home, since it is impossible to safely carry the MP-81 in full combat readiness, that is, with a cartridge in the chamber and a cocked hammer. At least for most users who are accustomed to weapons with a double-action trigger mechanism, from which the first shot can be fired simply by aiming and pulling the trigger, without any prior manipulation of the safety or trigger. Of course, there is a way out - wearing it with the trigger on the safety cock. In this case, the hammer must be manually cocked while removing the weapon from the holster.

This method of safely carrying the MP-81 and MP-82 traumatic pistols, as well as the TT combat pistol, requires development of the appropriate skill, but it has been tested in practice and has proven itself to be excellent. In fact, for most buyers of traumatic self-defense weapons, the most serious arguments in favor of purchasing a traumatic MP-81 pistol or a traumatic MP-82 pistol are some historical and collectible value of converted TT combat pistols, the aesthetics and charisma of this famous and generally wonderful weapon, and besides, there is also the plus of the ability to shoot traumatic cartridges. Carrying the MP-81 for self-defense is the choice of the few, but those who know a lot about weapons, prefer a simple, reliable, flat and comfortable pistol that does not reveal itself even under light clothing, and ultimately a familiar pistol.

Video MP-81

In recent years, the TT combat pistol has greatly attracted many manufacturers of traumatic weapons, who adapt this military weapon for traumatic cartridges. Probably every company, one way or another, tried to do this. What can you say about MP 81? If we compare this pistol with the weapon of the Leader complex, then it will be in the lead. If compared with the TT-T, which has long been discontinued, it will be inferior. Thus, we can safely say that the MP 81 is an average player in the trauma market.

The manufacturer of this pistol is the well-known company IzhMech, which owns many types of traumatic weapons. This model appeared on the market in 2008, it immediately alerted many potential buyers, since the IzhMekh company has very low quality control of weapons for civil self-defense at the exit from the assembly line.

The interest in combat TT as a platform for adaptation to trauma is quite understandable: The weapon has a recognizable design, probably everyone knows it: from the youngest to the oldest. This plays a certain psychological role in self-defense; The TT has a convenient device and circuit that allow it to be quickly re-equipped for traumatic cartridges. When compared with the adaptation of other combat pistols for traumatic weapons, then the least amount of work needs to be done with this; There are many TT units in military warehouses that are no longer used in service. No one wants to take them, and no one is writing them off, so copies are given to trauma manufacturers.

I would like to say that this weapon, in combat or traumatic form, is not very suitable for regular self-defense. The main reason for this is its dimensions.

If we talk specifically about the MP 81, it has undergone more design changes than other “ports”. The very first thing that catches the eye of every consumer is the modified handle. The fact is that for some reason the IzhMekh plant decided to place a magazine from the MP-79-9T in this pistol, abandoning the original TT magazine.

Of course, the modified magazine did not affect the comfort of using this pistol, but the appearance was spoiled. People who wanted to purchase a TT in a traumatic shell, and not a weapon for self-defense, had to abandon this model. Experts still did not understand why it was necessary to abandon the original magazine if it could have simply been adapted for 9 mm RA cartridges, which would have consumed much less production resources of the IzhMech company.

Pistol design

As with other adaptations of a military weapon for trauma, here it was not possible to preserve the original operating scheme. The fact is that traumatic cartridges have much less energy, which would not be enough to activate the circuitry of a combat weapon.

The first changes were made in the barrel area of the weapon. Thus, all protrusions were removed from the barrel and bolt casing as unnecessary. The barrel is now securely attached to the pistol body through a strong frame. The MP 81 pistol, in general, retains all the main components from its combat counterpart, except for the barrel, which makes it a very reliable weapon. But when choosing a weapon, you need to pay attention specifically to the barrel, since it is the basis of such a weapon. To be sure that the pistol will serve for many years, you need to pay attention to the year of manufacture of the military analogue: preferably, it should be from the latest batches.

Cartridges for the MP 81 are selected according to the same scheme as for other traumatic pistols. For self-defense in real conflict situations, you need to choose the most powerful cartridges. For training, recreational or sports shooting, you need to choose weak cartridges, the released energy of which does not exceed 50 J. The MP 81 pistol will last for many years if you choose the ammunition correctly and responsibly.

Safety of use of MP 81

It is impossible not to talk about the safety of using this pistol, because it is worth paying special attention to. When the gun is completely disassembled, it immediately becomes clear that there is no fuse. Moreover, this disease is inherent both in TT itself and in all traumatic analogues.

The role of the safety device here is played by the safety cocking of the trigger. To be honest, the design is not the most reliable. In theory, of course, it should protect the owner from an accidental shot both in a pocket or holster, and in case of an accidental fall, but this is just a theory; in practice, everything turns out to be completely different.

It must be remembered that manufacturers of trauma equipment receive old TTs that someone has already used for more than one year. It follows that the mechanisms of the gun already have a certain wear and tear, which increases the possibility of an accidental shot, especially when falling. Therefore, this design does not provide 100% reliability against an accidental shot. The greatest protection from an accidental shot is the law that prohibits carrying such a weapon with a cartridge in the chamber. But no one forbids carrying a loaded magazine.

What can be concluded?

As I already said at the beginning of the review, the MP 81 pistol occupies a solid middle place in the Russian trauma market. It is better than the Leader complex, but inferior to TT-T. If you go into detail, it becomes clear that all three types are very different from each other: this fact becomes especially clear after completely disassembling all three pistols. The main differences lie in the design, especially in the barrel design. The magazine capacity and the cartridges used also differ.

If we talk about the similarity with its progenitor, then MP 81 takes last place here. This, of course, is not a minus, but simply a fact that speaks of big changes in the design of the “port” of a combat pistol. Despite all this, the pistol is of good quality; after purchase there is no need to tune the MP 81, since everything has already been done at the factory.

The TT-T traumatic pistol is the latest joint development of the enterprises of LLC Industrial and Commercial Enterprise (PKP) “Agency of Commercial Security, Special Products” (AKBS)” and JSC “Carpet Mechanical Plant named after. V. A. Dyaggereva" (ZiD). It is certified as a gas pistol capable of firing rubber bullet cartridges and is classified as a civilian firearm with limited destruction. Designed for self-defense of citizens. The TT-T is also of some interest as a collectible weapon, since it was made by remaking F.V. Tokarev’s TT combat pistols of the 1933 model. Along with ensuring the greatest effectiveness of the TT-T as a self-defense weapon, the designers of this traumatic pistol sought to reduce alterations to a minimum and changes to the original design.

One of the main differences between the TT-T and the basic pistol is that instead of an automatic with a short barrel stroke, it has an automatic circuit that operates by using the recoil energy of a free bolt-casing, and the barrel is rigidly fixed to a steel frame. The pistol has the same trigger mechanism as the TT, with an open hammer, made in the form of a single, easily removable module.

The barrel has undergone significant changes. It is made without rifling, and in its channel there is a barrier that prevents the passage of inelastic bullets. Unlike the TT, the barrel of the TT-T traumatic pistol is rigidly fixed to the frame.

The 10×28 traumatic cartridge is used as ammunition for the TT-T. Due to the fact that, compared to the 9 mm R.A. cartridge. (9×22), the cartridge case of this cartridge has a large volume, it was possible to increase the diameter of the projectile thrown - a spherical elastic (rubber) bullet - to 12 mm. The bullet weight was also increased to 1.8 g. Thus, the efficiency of the “weapon + cartridge” complex has been significantly increased, while the magazine capacity has been maintained at the same level. It is 8 rounds.

The store has a straight box shape. It is inserted into the pistol grip and secured with a latch, the button of which is located on the frame at the base of the trigger guard. It should be borne in mind that the latch does not secure the magazines securely enough, so when using the pistol, the magazine may spontaneously fall out of the handle.

According to some reports, when using the TT-T, there were delays in firing caused by the cartridge choking when it was fed from the magazine into the chamber, as well as due to the non-ejection of the cartridge case with its clamping between the barrel and the wall of the window in the bolt-casing.

There is no fuse as a separate part. For relatively safe carrying of a pistol with a cartridge in the chamber, a safety half-cocked hammer is provided, however, if the parts of the trigger mechanism are worn out, dropping the pistol with the hammer half-cocked can lead to an accidental shot.

The TT-T has open-type mechanical sights. They include a front sight and rear sight placed on the bolt casing. The front sight is made as an integral element of the bolt-casing, and the rear sight is attached to it with the possibility of making lateral corrections. However, the meaning of sighting

There are relatively few devices when firing from the TT-T: the effective range of use of this weapon does not exceed 7 m.

An analysis of the technical characteristics of the TT-T shows that the pistol is by no means an ideal self-defense weapon. It is relatively large in size and weight, which makes it difficult to carry concealedly. Many users find the shape of the handle uncomfortable and does not meet modern ergonomic requirements. There are also complaints about the quality of workmanship. It is largely determined by when the TT combat pistols were manufactured and underwent alteration in a traumatic circle. The TT-T pistols based on the TT, produced by OJSC Tula Arms Plant in the pre-war years, as well as OJSC Izhevsk Mechanical Plant in 1947-1953, are distinguished by their increased quality.

0 Alexander Malin 01/31/2017 09:51 With such a rubber handle, the TT will have a better grip. It's a beautiful pistol, but the front sight needs to be cut off just in case.

0 Dobryi 01/31/2017 09:53 There was a cut on the feeder lip in the bolt, and there were incomprehensible traces of welding on the bolt on the left. I didn’t see the combat annular stops of the barrel on the bolt in front of the ejector window towards the cut of the barrel. Apparently they are not on the barrel either. Accordingly, the stroke is short. the barrel and its lowering are missing. Not a standard cartridge feed slide (enlarged). Standard conversion scheme. Extremely dubious toy.

0 LBVFY 01/31/2017 09:56 Interesting device, I’ve never even heard of it. But, apparently, it really has problems with automatic reloading (the shutter was often distorted during shooting), and with accuracy, apparently, not everything is smooth either - either a bullet hits a bullet or doesn’t hit the target from 5 meters.

0 Good 01/31/2017 09:58 I do not recommend this product, there is a more interesting device called TT-T. New ones for caliber 10×28 are not sold due to the law; on the secondary market it is quite possible to find them in the range of 40-45 tr. They register without problems. There are minimal alterations, a standard magazine, barrel, and sz also work. In general, this is the most realistic and minimal modification of a combat TT.
