Self-defense weapon: traumatic barrelless pistol Osa-Egida PB-2 (Russia)

Aegis PB-2 is a traumatic pistol created specifically for fans of compact self-defense weapons in the bowels of the design department of NOT LLC (New Weapons Technologies) in 2006. The development was based on the barrelless traumatic pistol Osa PB-4-1Ml, the cartridge block of which was decisively “cut off”. The main task of the designers at that time was to create a compact model of self-defense weapon, capable of, if not surpassing, then competing with the analogue from the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant). The designers were given the main task of making the pistol as compact as possible and suitable for concealed carry - and they succeeded! The pistol fits in the palm of your hand and does not have any protruding parts that could catch on clothing when removing it. The cartridge block holds two 18x45 charges, signal, light-noise, and traumatic effects.

Self-defense complex

"Wasp" is a barrelless electronic weapon for civilian use with limited damage. Can be used for self-defense, firing signal shots and releasing light and sound flashes. The design of the pistol allows the use of various types of cartridges:

  1. Traumatic . The complex uses large-caliber bullets weighted with metal shavings. The stopping effect of 91 J is comparable to that of combat units.
  2. Aerosol . Cayenne pepper extract, when inhaled and in contact with mucous membranes, can cause an unbearable burning sensation, which leads to uncontrollable closing of the eyes, non-stop sneezing and suffocating cough.
  3. Signaling and lighting . They are capable of sounding a signal and illuminating the surrounding area. The signal is visible from a distance of up to 5 km.
  4. Light and sound . They produce sound with a power of 145 decibels and emit light with a flux of up to 5,000,000 candelas. A bright flash in the eyes and a powerful sound comparable to a rocket launch can cause short-term concussion.

"Wasp" is present in the NATO weapons catalog as the best means of influence that does not have lethal properties.

What determines the choice. What affects the price

When choosing a pistol, you should focus on ease of grip and affordability . It would be a good idea to check the cassette shat - it should be minimal. Use a test cartridge to test the electronic igniter.

The price of the Wasp is affected by the number of charges that can be loaded before reloading the pistol. There are 2 and 4 chargers. 2 chargers will cost 4-5,000 rubles less.

The price is also affected by the version of the electronic filling and the type of battery . The M09 model, the most expensive in the line, is equipped with a highly reliable microcircuit that is more compact in size than in previous models.

The price is indirectly affected by the thickness of the metal of the cassette, which determines the massiveness of the weapon, but this does not affect the price in any tangible way.

ATTENTION!

  • The plastic body of the weapon is closed at the back with a plastic plate (plate assembly), which includes a cover covering the connector for connecting the charger and an LED indicator showing the battery charge level when the charger is connected.

In the front part of the case there is a niche for installing a cartridge cartridge. There is also a cassette lock with a button facing the left side surface of the case.

The latch has the ability to move along the crossbar, rigidly fixed to the load-bearing wall of the housing with two screws. The same screws secure the bracket with the LC on the opposite side of the wall.

Contact units with electric strikers are installed in the upper and lower parts of the wall. Below them there is a guide in which the MIG-1K1 pulse generator is fixed.

On the opposite side of the generator, a rod with a trigger is installed in the guide. The key head is mounted on the rod, the tail part of which runs inside the housing under the generator. At the end of the tail part of the key there is a magnet that interacts with a reed switch installed on the electronic switch board located in the grooves along the right wall of the case.

There are safety buttons on the left and right sides of the case above the key.

The weapon includes two power supply circuits connected by an electronic switch:

    a) from the MIG-1K1 pulse generator to electric strikers (for initiating cartridges when firing);

    b) from the lithium-ion battery to the LC (for powering the LC).

The cartridges are installed in the cassette in advance and can be stored and transported separately from the weapon.

To fire a shot, place a cartridge with cartridges in the niche of the weapon and forcefully press it until the latch clicks, having first removed the latch (see paragraphs 6.1.8, 6.2 of this manual).

Holding the weapon with your hand, move the safety to the left (disabled) with your middle finger, then press the key and move it inside the weapon. The trigger, released by moving the key, lowers under the action of a spring and takes a vertical position.

At the same time, the reed switch is triggered under the influence of a magnet attached to the key shank, and the LC is turned on.

The laser beam passes through the holes in the thrust wall, cross member and cassette and forms a red bright dot intended for target designation of aimed shooting.

Having given the weapon the required direction, they press the trigger, which, moving along with the rod, presses the button of the MIG-1K1 generator. As a result, an electric current pulse is generated.

A current pulse processed by an electronic commutator is supplied to the upper electric striker - a shot occurs.

If the electrical resistance of the electric igniter in the upper cartridge differs from normal (open or short circuit), then the current pulse is directed to the lower electric striker, which ensures a guaranteed shot even with one faulty cartridge.

To fire the next shot, the trigger is released enough to cock the MIG-1K1 (until it clicks) and the trigger is pressed again.

After the shot, the fingers are completely removed from the hook and key, while the spring-loaded key moves the trigger to its original position, and the LC goes out.

To remove a cartridge from a weapon:

    a) put the weapon on safety - move the safety button to the right;

    b) press the cassette release button located on the left side surface - the cassette will come out of the weapon.

After replacing the cassette with a new one, repeat the steps described above.

  • Series production models

The fourth generation of the barrelless complex is currently in serial production:

    • PB-4-2 - 4-charged version. The cartridge used is comparable in impact power to a Makarov pistol. The color of the laser target is red.
    • PB-4-1ML is the most produced 4-charge model made of aluminum alloy for caliber 18 x 45. In this modification of the Wasp, a system is installed that determines the serviceability of the cartridge. In the event of a defect, the impulse is sent to the next good one, which provides a 100% guarantee of a shot. The model is equipped with a red laser sight.
    • PB-2 "Aegis" - 2-charge version of the "Wasp". The cartridge cassette holds 18 x 45 caliber. The color of the sight is red. The most budget option from the entire line.
    • M09 is a barrelless 4-round version with an increased caliber. This model uses a traumatic type of cartridge. The stopping power of this specimen is comparable to the capabilities of the 9 X 18 cartridges used in Makarov pistols, but the ability to cause severe damage to a person is lower, due to the absence of a steel filler. The color of the sight is green, which makes it clearly visible at night and in bright light. The most expensive copy under the Osa trademark.

    Traumatic pistol PB 2 design

Structurally, the pistol is a weapon loaded with a block of two cartridges located vertically. The descent occurs using a trigger that activates a magnetic pulse generator, which in turn initiates the combustion reaction of the powder mixture with an electrical discharge into the cartridge capsule. Reloading the weapon is carried out by replacing the cartridge with spent cartridges - there are three such cartridges in the pistol configuration. The block is secured using latches located on both sides of the housing.

The owner can complete the cartridges as he wishes - the main thing is that the cartridges are intended specifically for pistols of the Osa/Aegis series.

There are no sighting devices on the body - its role is played by a laser target designator, which is located between the barrels of the Aegis.

However, unlike its “ancestor” PB-4-Ml, the PB-2 target designator produces an ellipsoidal beam shape, which is better suited for temporarily blinding the enemy compared to the standard round one.

It is noteworthy that there are no fuses - instead, a circuit with a trigger hidden inside the case is used. When grasping the handle, the middle finger rests on the button that releases the trigger - otherwise it cannot be removed. The trigger resembles that of Glock pistols - a light press activates the laser designator, and in order to shoot, you must pull the trigger. During a full press, the magnetic pulse generator sends an electrical signal to the cartridge primer, and the pistol's electronic unit automatically selects the cartridge more suitable for firing. All this happens in a split second, leaving the aggressor no chance of salvation.

The body of the pistol is made entirely of plastic, only the trigger is made of magnesium alloy. It is the plastic case that is the reason for the dissatisfaction of many users, who talk about the use of fragile plastic in it, which collapses at the slightest fall. However, according to Not LLC, the PB-2 Egida pistol can withstand several falls in a row from a height of two meters.

The use of a magnetic pulse generator as a power source deserves special words of gratitude - such a generator will not allow the owner to be left without a weapon during frost, unlike lithium-ion or nickel-metal hydride batteries, which quickly discharge in cold weather.

And it is impossible not to notice that all the materials and components used pursued one single goal - to create the lightest and most compact pistol, which nevertheless performed its function perfectly.

The barrelless traumatic pistol PB-2 Osa-Egida appeared on the Russian market of self-defense weapons in 2006. This traumatic pistol was developed by the New Weapons Technologies (NOT) company from Sergiev Posad as a development of the fairly successful Osa PB-4 self-defense weapon system and in response to the Izhevsk traumatic barrelless pistol Strazhnik. The main idea when creating the Osa-Aegis pistol was to optimize the new self-defense weapon for everyday concealed carry, for which the pistol was made extremely compact and “streamlined”; However, for the sake of compactness, the weapon’s ammunition had to be sacrificed - it was reduced to 2 rounds. The PB-2 Osa-Egida barrelless traumatic pistol can use all types of 18x45 cartridges with electric ignition - traumatic with a rubber bullet, light-sound, signal.

The barrelless traumatic pistol PB-2 Osa-Egida is a two-shot weapon with a vertical chamber arrangement in a removable cassette. The function of the barrels is performed by cartridge cases. The cassette (chamber block) is secured in the weapon body using a latch controlled by buttons on the side surfaces of the weapon body. To remove the cassette, you must press the latch button, and then remove the cassette from the weapon body moving forward. Installation of the cassette is done by inserting it into the body of the weapon until it locks. Loading the cassette with cartridges and removing spent cartridges is carried out after separating the cassette from the weapon. Each pistol comes with three cassettes, which allows, if necessary, to reload the weapon relatively quickly or change the type of cartridges (for example, from a rubber bullet to light-sound). The trigger mechanism of the Osa-Egida pistol is electronic, with a circuit for automatically selecting a cartridge ready to fire; it is powered by a magnetic pulse generator, driven by pressing the trigger. The safety mechanism has an original design and includes a folding trigger and an automatic safety on the handle (on its front surface). When the trigger is folded, the weapon is completely safe from being fired. With the correct grip of the pistol handle, the middle finger of the hand squeezes the automatic safety button, as a result of which the trigger is automatically moved to the firing (vertical) position, after which the shot(s) can be fired by pressing it. When the safety button is released, the trigger automatically folds into a safe position. The PB-2 Osa-Egida barrelless traumatic pistol is equipped with a built-in laser target designator (LTC) located in the weapon body. The laser center is powered by a built-in rechargeable battery and is automatically turned on when the automatic fuse button is pressed. A separate feature of the laser sight of the Osa-Egida pistol is that it has a special optical beam scattering system, so that instead of a bright round small dot, an elliptical spot is formed on the target. According to the designers of the weapon, this light spot can additionally be used to temporarily blind opponents with laser radiation in the dark.
