The three-ton diesel truck GAZ-3306 was produced by the Gorky Automobile Plant from 1993 to 1995. The Russian automotive industry at that time was going through hard times - competition with foreign manufacturers was growing, new niches were emerging, and customer needs were changing, to which enterprises did not have time to adapt. GAZ relied on medium-duty air-cooled diesel trucks. Inexpensive, passable, compact - they quickly gained popularity among cargo carriers throughout Russia.
Reasons for popularity
The designers of the GAZ-4301 created many improvements and major modifications, which made it possible to produce a very popular car on the cargo transportation market.
Additional amenities include: simple engine starting using an electric torch, a driver's seat with a shock absorption system, effective ventilation and heating systems.
Standardization and unification of most units and elements helped achieve lower production costs.
The Gorky Automobile Plant created a high-quality model of the GAZ-4301, which allowed the production sector to move forward productively.
One of the factors that has a negative impact on the demand for the car is the low cross-country ability of the truck.
Thanks to the installation of a heavier and more powerful engine, the load on the front wheels also increased: this often led to the GAZ-4301 often getting stuck on soft surfaces.
Another factor that influenced the discontinuation of the GAZ-4301 was the economic crisis of the 90s, as a result of which agricultural enterprises lost state support and funding.
Ultimately, this led to the discontinuation of turbodiesel production, and in 1995 the GAZ-4301 was discontinued. The total number of trucks that rolled off the assembly line is 28,158.
GAZ-3306 - technical characteristics of models with gasoline and diesel engines
Descriptions of the technical characteristics of the GAZ-3306 with different engines do not differ from each other. But experienced drivers know that diesel has better “torque” and is capable of carrying more cargo, although nothing is said about this in the model’s characteristics. A diesel engine is also much more economical than a gasoline engine. The main disadvantage of a diesel engine is the difficulty of repairing it. If a gasoline engine (which traces its origins back to military developments) can be repaired in any field on its own, a diesel engine cannot be repaired that way.
The technical characteristics of the GAZ-3306 are as follows:
- The curb weight of the GAZ-3306 is about 3 tons;
- The total weight of the transported cargo can reach 4.5 tons (although in practice it often only starts from this mark and reaches 7 tons);
- The speed of a loaded vehicle can reach 90 km/h; if a trailer is towed, then up to 80 km/h.
GAZ-3306 diesel went on serial sale in 1993. The combination of low fuel consumption and higher traction characteristics immediately attracted potential buyers of the car. This engine was equipped with an air-cooled system and its installation in a car immediately made it profitable to use the Lawn on short and medium trips. In addition to the installation of a diesel engine, 1993 brought the model modernization of ventilation and heating systems. Separate seats with seat belts were also installed in the cabin.
The service life of the GAZ-3306 engine, according to the manufacturer’s plan, was to be 250 thousand kilometers. There is information that the service life of this engine could be 500 thousand kilometers, but it is unlikely that the owners of the Lawns will believe this information. Engine life directly depends on the quality of fuel, oil and general care. Domestic trucks are very rarely serviced like this, so not every GAZ engine can cost 250 thousand before a major overhaul.
GAZ-3306 was a transitional model, although outwardly it was the same as later models from GAZ. This model occupies an honorable place in the history of GAZ and continues to work in the remote corners of our country.
Application and purpose of creation
The 2.5-ton truck was intended primarily for agricultural purposes, but was also used to transport other things. For the GAZ 3306 truck, coverage was not an important factor; it drove on roads of all categories. Thanks to its cross-country ability and average dimensions, the car has earned good recommendations and respect for many years to come.
Trucks were widely used on collective farms, in the fields and, of course, in everyday life. A carrying capacity of four tons made it possible to transport what was needed to any distance with virtually no stress on the vehicle. A trailer was also created for the vehicle with an acceptable weight of 2.5 tons.
Characteristics of the gasoline model
Now it’s time to talk about the main characteristics of the car, because these indicators are decisive for the consumer. And they look like this:
- Load capacity – 4500 kg.
- The weight of a fully loaded vehicle reached 3 tons.
- The maximum speed of the truck reached 90 km/h, if with a trailer, then 80 km/h.
- Engine - petrol, eight-cylinder, volume 4.5 liters.
- The gearbox is four-speed with a single-disc clutch.
- The GAZ 3306 has a dependent suspension on springs with the addition of shock absorbers.
- The truck's electrical system voltage is twelve-volt, with a TK 102 A distributor installed.
- The car has a 100 liter gas tank.
- The gasoline used is 76.
- Cooling is water.
- Flatbed truck 6.5 meters long and 2.4 meters high.
- The width of the car is 2380 millimeters.
- The ground clearance of the GAZ 3306 is 265 millimeters.
- The maximum speed of the truck is 80–85 kilometers per hour.
- The fuel consumption of the GAZ 3306 is thirteen liters per hundred kilometers.
The characteristics of the GAZ 3306 were the basis for the production of subsequent generations of trucks and their modifications.
Diesel engine
GAZ 3306 diesel rolled off the assembly line in 1993. The diesel engine was air-cooled and had four cylinders. Power was 85 horsepower.
The installation of a diesel engine made the truck a standard example of vehicles used for medium and short distance cargo transportation. In addition to the engine, the internal state of the cabin has also changed in the GAZ 3306.
She purchased separate seats equipped with seat belts, and an improved heating and ventilation system.
Characteristics of the diesel model
If we talk about the GAZ 3306, the technical characteristics of the body cannot be ignored:
During production, it was assumed that the engine life would be 250–300 thousand kilometers. But thanks to the elasticity of the engine and the durable chassis, these figures turned out to be underestimated; the service life was closer to five hundred thousand kilometers. The weight of the car (fully equipped) is three tons and one hundred kilograms.
The GAZ 3306 truck has already been discontinued, but this does not make it written off. This machine is still in demand today. It is also considered competitive with foreign trucks of this class.
Spare parts for GAZ 3306 are much cheaper than for imported equipment. The presented truck has a high reliability coefficient and has excellent maneuverability and copes with off-road conditions without any problems. Also, there are no problems with the car in the winter season.
For the Russian climate, a special electric heating is installed on the engine.
However, nothing can happen without minuses. The GAZ 3306 truck also has one drawback. Since the car has been discontinued, therefore, spare parts for it are no longer produced. Finding a specific part is difficult these days.
The only option to find the necessary part of the car is to search for owners who have ever owned a GAZ 3306 or are still using it. In addition, there are stores that, for a fee, will order or deliver the spare part themselves, thereby protecting you from wasting time searching.
If everything is in order with the components and there are no problems with their acquisition, then the truck, due to its quality and good reliability, will last for several more years, bringing a lot of benefits to its owner.

History of the GAZ-3306 car
The development of diesel trucks began back in 1978 together with German specialists. The result of the cooperation was the experimental five-ton GAZ-4301, equipped with a powerful German air-cooled engine and a spacious two-seater cabin with improved ventilation and heating. Also, to increase comfort, power steering and a vacuum pump for the brake system were installed. Then a series of five-ton flatbed trucks and dump trucks were produced, which showed themselves well in transporting various cargoes.
The truck was widely used in various fields of economy
A study of demand showed that in the post-perestroika period compact cars with a payload of 2.5 tons were in high demand. In 1992, such a car was released. 3306 received a spacious, comfortable cabin and two versions - with a gasoline and diesel engine. At the same time, the cabin design did not change, and in the photo you can distinguish 3306 from, for example, 4301 only by the volume of the body.
The technical characteristics of the GAZ 3306 optimally took into account the needs of cargo carriers. The vehicle was intended for transporting construction, agricultural and other goods both on paved and unpaved roads. However, it was not suitable for long trips - the fuel tank was only enough for 500 km (with an incomplete load). But the truck was widely used at city and regional construction sites, agricultural enterprises, as well as by companies and private entrepreneurs in the field of rural cargo transportation.
The niche of medium-duty vehicles was occupied by the GAZ-3310 Valdai - a low-bed truck (flatbed, awning, van) with a payload of 3 to 6 tons, which, in turn, gave way to GAZon NEXT.
Modifications, photos
In 1992, the first copies of the 33061 medium-duty flatbed truck on the old chassis and carburetor engine rolled off the assembly line. A year later, production of the diesel 3306 was launched with the lowest-power engine in the entire family (85 hp). Low load capacity (2.5 tons), compactness and maneuverability quickly gained popularity for both models.
The following were produced on chassis 3306:
- flatbed truck;
- tilt truck;
- vans for transporting people.
The model never acquired a dump body. The dump truck was produced on chassis 33072, and before that - in the form of GAZ-4509 and 4509 for operation as part of a road train.

Chassis, suspension
The GAZ-4301 uses a front suspension on two longitudinal semi-elliptic springs, with an additional rubber compression buffer. The rear suspension is based on two longitudinal semi-elliptical springs with additional metal springs and shock absorbers. The shock absorbers on the front axle are hydraulic, telescopic, double-acting.
To increase the energy capacity of the springs and limit their deflection, rubber compression springs are installed on the frame side member in the area of the front axle. Rubber buffers are also installed on the lower flange of the rear frame side members, above the rear axle, to limit the degree of spring deflection.
The wheels on the GAZ-4301 are disc-mounted, with a two-component rim and a split bead ring. Tires - pneumatic, radial, size 8.25 R20, ply rating - NS-12. The recommended tire pressure is: front wheels – 370 kPa, or 3.8 kgf/cm2; rear wheels - 540 kPa, or 5.5 kgf/cm2.
Features and operation
Compared to previous models, GAZ 3309 is much more comfortable to operate and maintain. The passenger and driver seats have comfortable high backs with simulated lateral support. The driver's seat is adjustable in horizontal and vertical directions. To ensure safety, three-point seat belts are installed. The presence of glow plugs in the engine starting system makes it easier to start the engine in cold weather. Finally, the GAZ medium-tonnage truck received power steering, which significantly reduces driver fatigue, especially in conditions of intense urban traffic flow. It is no coincidence that it was on the basis of the GAZ 3309 that a modern model, characterized by free forms and the presence of plastic contours, was created, called “Dobrynya”. In some ways, the car is reminiscent of the American type of hooded long-range trucks, only much more compact in size. If previously produced medium-tonnage GAZ vehicles were far from ideal in terms of exterior, “Dobrynya” looks excellent against their background. If the GAZ 53 can be called a nondescript “workhorse,” then the GAZ 3309 “Dobrynya” is a “thoroughbred trotter.” High wheel arches, an original radiator grille, fog lights in the bumper niches and an unusual frame for headlights and turn signals give the car a new and recognizable look. The designers did not forget about practicality. Non-metallic parts of the cabin are mainly made of fiberglass. Thanks to its use, the overall weight of the machine is reduced, and the corrosion-resistant elements last for many years without losing their appearance. The engine hood lid opens forward, which facilitates access to engine systems and prevents it from opening when hitting a bump or from an oncoming air flow. For ease of entry into the car, wide footrests are installed, and the driver's seat is equipped with a lever suspension. A completely new solution for GAZ cars of this class was the installation of a berth. “Dobrynya” was first presented at the “Commercial Vehicles” exhibition back in 2006 and over the entire period of production and operation it has earned flattering reviews from both specialists in the use of the vehicle and its sales. To a large extent, this happened thanks to reliable diesel power units that meet the most modern technical parameters and environmental standards.
GAZ-33086 (Countryman) price and characteristics, photos and review
“Countryman” is an all-wheel drive flatbed truck that occupies an “intermediate place” between the “hardy” GAZ-3309 and the “off-road” GAZ-3308 - roughly speaking, the GAZ-33086 modification received the “carrying capacity” from the GAZ-3309 and an all-wheel drive transmission from the GAZ-3308. 3308 (albeit with slightly reduced cross-country ability). The production of GAZ-33086 started in 2005 and over the past years the car has managed to gain an excellent reputation among those who need a truck with good load capacity, endurance when operating in harsh climatic conditions and good off-road capability.
The Zemlyak flatbed truck is equipped with an easy-to-manufacture and easy-to-maintain all-metal cabin with a large hood, large glazing surface, rectangular contours and a minimum of decorative finishing elements. At the front, the cabin is equipped with a powerful metal bumper, classic round optics and a massive square radiator grille. The cabin has two doors with fairly wide openings, but without handrails (which makes getting in and out somewhat difficult).
The “Countryman” salon has two seats with soft, modern chairs with fabric upholstery and seat belts. The interior is decorated as modestly as the car's exterior, but the interior is quite comfortable (for its class) and quite spacious.
The GAZ-33086 truck received a wheelbase of 3770 mm, as well as an overall length of 6430 mm. The width along the sides of the cargo platform is 2340 mm, the width of the cabin is 2268 mm. The height of the vehicle at the top of the cabin is 2520 mm; when installing a removable awning on the cargo platform, the overall height increases to 2780 mm. Ground clearance (clearance) – 265 mm.
The truck has a curb weight of 3990 kg, while the total weight does not exceed 8150 kg, and the load capacity is about 4000 kg. As for the maximum permitted axle load, the front axle should bear no more than 2340 kg, and the rear axle - 5810 kg.
To transport cargo, the GAZ-33086 is equipped with a metal or metal-wooden cargo platform with a tailgate, a flat floor and the ability to install a removable frame awning, as well as folding longitudinal side passenger seats. The dimensions of the platform are 3490x2170x510 mm. The loading height of the platform is 1365 mm.
Specifications. The GAZ-33086 model is offered with only one power plant option, the latest modification of which is the MMZ D-245.7 engine, which complies with the Euro-4 environmental standard. The engine has 4 in-line cylinders, a direct fuel injection system and turbocharging with intercooling of the charge air. Its displacement is 4.75 liters, and the maximum power is 122.4 hp, developed at 2400 rpm. Peak engine torque occurs at 417 Nm and is achieved already at 1100 rpm, holding until 2100 rpm. The engine is coupled with a non-alternative 5-speed synchronized “mechanics” with a dry single-plate friction clutch with a hydraulic control drive.
GAZ-33086 "Countryman" inherited the all-wheel drive system from the base model GAZ-3308 "Sadko", operating on the basis of a mechanical transfer case with a reduction gear ratio of 1.982, transmitting traction to the front and rear drive axles, which are equipped with cam-type limited slip differentials. In addition, the front axle steering knuckles have constant velocity joints. Despite the general technical stuffing, the cross-country ability of the "Countryman" is slightly lower than that of the "Sadko" (due to the reduced ground clearance), but at the same time the GAZ-33086 is more stable when driving on icy or snowy roads (including thanks to the dual-slope rear busbar). bridge).
The GAZ-33086 “Countryman” flatbed truck is based on a two-axle frame platform with dependent leaf spring suspension at the front and rear. The manufacturer used longitudinal semi-elliptical springs, which are complemented by double-acting hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers on all wheels. The truck also received a classic dual-circuit braking system with drum mechanisms on all wheels, ABS, hydraulic drive, hydraulic vacuum booster, and a vacuum receiver in each brake circuit. The parking brake of the truck is transmission, with a mechanical drive. The steering (screw-ball nut system) is supplemented with power steering.
Equipment and prices. In the basic configuration, the on-board “Countryman” received: 20-inch wheels, halogen optics, a rear fog lamp, a wheel inflation system, a 6ST-75 battery and an interior heater. As an option, the vehicle can be equipped with a power take-off and a winch. The cost of the medium-tonnage all-wheel drive GAZ-33086 “Countryman” truck in 2014 starts at ~1 million 22 thousand rubles.
