The game "World of Tanks" is one of the most popular today. This is a multiplayer tank simulator that amazes with its realism and full compliance with the real characteristics of real vehicles. This is the first game of its kind that has gained worldwide fame and enormous success. If you are just starting your journey into the world of tanks, then you should pay attention to different vehicles - the fact is that there are different sets of equipment for different countries. And the types of tanks also differ - they can be light, medium or heavy, and can also be self-propelled guns, that is, self-propelled artillery.
In this article we will talk about a specific tank called “Leopard-1”, which belongs to the German branch, a medium type of vehicle. This is one of the best tanks that the German branch has to offer, so it's definitely worth checking out. Leopard-1 is a force that the enemy will definitely have to reckon with.
general review
Leopard 1 is a tank that many players praise for various reasons. Among the average models of the tenth level, it stands out for its high maneuverability, as well as a weapon that has a high rate of fire and very targeted shooting. Moreover, this gun has impressive elevation angles, which makes the tank even more effective in battles on rough terrain. But don’t think that this tank is a “cheater” and you can win any battle with it. The Leopard 1 is not known for having the thickest armor for a medium tank, which is also located at a slight angle, which makes it an excellent target and reduces the number of ricochets from the armor, thus greatly shortening its life, especially in inept hands.
Historical reference
The history of the creation of the Leopard goes back to 1956, when Italy, France and West Germany decided to jointly develop a tank that could compete in firepower, mobility and armor with the tanks of the Warsaw Pact member states. In 1965, prototypes were assembled in Germany (France refused to cooperate), and after comprehensive testing, the Porsche model was chosen. Production began in 1965 at the Krauss-Mafei plant. The Leopard became the main tank of the Bundeswehr, as well as in the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Denmark, Australia and Italy, where this tank was assembled under license.
When the Bundeswehr reformed, it was armed with the M47 and M48 tanks, both with a 90 mm cannon. It was decided that the M47 tanks should be replaced by more modern tanks with a 105 mm gun, and two teams of designers (named A and B) were selected to create prototypes of the vehicle for comparative testing. At the same time, France created prototypes of the AMX-30 tank to replace its American-supplied M47 tanks. It was expected that either the new West German tank or the AMX-30 would become the single battle tank in both armies, but it ended up with each of them going their own way. In Germany, continued work on the Group A design led to the standardization of the tank, called Leopard 1.
The popular series of promotions with discounts and combat missions for certain vehicles continues: every month you choose one branch of promotional tanks by voting on the portal, and we choose the second.
From August 1, 9:00 (Moscow time) to August 15, 8:30 (Moscow time), discounts and combat missions await you for the German branch with Leopard 1 in the “top”.
Tower
So, it’s time to disassemble the Leopard-1 tank into parts and see what it consists of and what it can give you. First of all, it is necessary to consider the turret of this vehicle - it has the same name as the tank itself, and has a rotation speed of 36 degrees per second. But the most important thing to consider is her booking, which has already been discussed a little above. The frontal layer of armor here is slightly thinner than the side and rear ones - it is 52 millimeters, while the rest are 60 millimeters. This tower gives the player a view of 410 meters around. It weighs a little more than 7700 kilograms. Thus, the result is quite attractive, although, naturally, many would like the armor (especially the front armor) to be a little thicker. However, what about the gun? What gun is installed on the Leopard-1 tank?
gun
If you are interested in the weapon that the Leopard 1 tank is equipped with, the guide will provide you with this information, as well as data on what shells you will need to fire it. Your gun is the 10.5cm Bordkanone L7A3, which has impressive penetration rates. And with a rate of fire of 6.9 rounds per minute, you can make a lot of noise on the battlefield. Keep in mind that the dispersion indicator is 0.3, and the time required to aim the gun is 1.9 seconds. With such a weapon, it is very important to understand how to play the Leopard-1 so as not to waste such potential.
Shells
Naturally, we should not forget that there are various shells suitable for the Leopard-1 tank. Reviews from players usually describe only sub-caliber projectiles, that is, typical for the model, but there are also cumulative and explosive ones. The latter can be bought simply more expensive than sub-caliber ones, but cumulative ones can be purchased exclusively for gold. What's the difference? The fact is that where a sub-caliber projectile penetrates 268 millimeters of armor and causes 390 damage, a cumulative one will cause the same amount of damage, but will penetrate 330 millimeters of armor. This is a very, very useful feature, since this weapon has excellent performance on its own, but with cumulative projectiles it becomes much more dangerous and effective.
Well, of course, it’s worth talking about explosive shells, which have a very weak penetration - only 53 millimeters, but at the same time, when they hit and penetrate armor, they will cause much more damage - as much as 480 units. Moreover, fragments from these shells fly almost two meters, causing additional damage. However, you should not think that a review of the Leopard-1 tank will focus solely on the gun - after all, it also has other elements.
Engine
But what is hidden from your eyes when you see the Leopard-1 tank? The photo will show you both the turret and the guns - but the engine, for example, will be hidden from your eyes. But it also deserves special attention - this is the MTU MB 838 CaM 500A model, whose power is as much as 830 horsepower. What makes this engine even more attractive is its safety - the fire rate is only ten percent, and it weighs from 1,700 kilograms, which is very important for a medium tank that wants to take on battles with its mobility. As a result, you get a mechanism that can accelerate to 65 kilometers per hour - and this despite the fact that it belongs to the medium class. This is another impressive advantage that the Leopard-1 tank can boast of. A review of this machine gives you a general idea of its pros and cons - it’s best for you to try it yourself. Then you will be able to truly understand how good she is in battle.
Chassis
What else can the Leopard-1 tank boast of? World of Tanks is a project where every detail matters, so if you have impressive firepower, but on the other hand you have a serious disadvantage that you don’t take care of, then you will fail. Fortunately, the chassis is not one of the disadvantages of this model, which does not prevent us from talking about it in more detail. It is designed for a maximum weight of 42 tons, which will be quite enough for a medium tank. It is worth paying special attention to the agility of this machine - the turning speed is 54 degrees per second, this is a very impressive indicator that can give you serious advantages in battle. Look at Leopard-1 in WoT - how it moves, how it maneuvers. This is a real art that you should learn if you want to have real success with this machine.

Hello again everyone! Now we will talk about an unusual tank and this is Leopard Prototyp A. I’ll tell you about its configuration, what equipment is best to install, the necessary perks, how to play in battle and whether there is any difficulty in playing this colossus.
Leopard Prototype A
Guide to the German ST 9 Levela “Leopard Prototyp A“
- The plan is as follows: Firstly - What is he like? Secondly - How to benefit the team and be useful even if you are at the very bottom. What is better to experience for the first time. Thirdly - The people operating the tank (crew) Fourthly - Additional and necessary equipment Fifthly - Necessary equipment Sixthly - What is the style of play Seventhly - Conclusions.
What is he like?
Let's start, who can say what this tank is? This is definitely a controversial colossus and I will prove it to you. Leo - that’s what I call him, is located on the 2nd branch of the German averages, and it ends with a crazy colossus - Leopard 1. In front of Leo there is a good Indien-Panzer tank, many do not like it, but to me it became a little sunshine after the seventh Level - with good penetration , at least some, but it still has the armor of the mask and VLD, panorama and the ability to maneuver, but its maximum speed and prolonged aiming did not decorate the tank. Still, the red-skinned brother “Indian” - you can even say the tank is excellent and don’t listen to anyone. There is one minus of the Indien-Panzer - it’s a pity that when you explore it and no top module, no engine, no gun or even radio station will suit Leo and this is depressing, since in order to make the machine a top one, you will have to kill all your free time, and It will take a long time to heal your nerves, and besides, your free experience will go to waste.
How to benefit the team and be useful even if you are at the very bottom. What is better to experience for the first time.
I previously told you that Leo (Leopard Prototyp A) at first is no good, neither a shooter nor a rider. It has 2 guns: stock - 9 cm and top - 10.5 cm. The 9 cm gun comes with the Indian and is super for the 8th Level, but for the 9th it is not that powerful, because the average damage is too low, even the fact that he is ST. The initial gun does not allow Leo to be used as it should be, or rather, to be a real sniper and do more damage. At that time, the top barrel performed well. Even after the Upgrade of this branch, the gun was given a little rate of fire and the aiming time became shorter from 2.9 seconds to 2.3, and it had a positive effect on the entire subsequent game.
Next is the tower on our way. I don’t advise you to play with the original turret, but immediately install the top one and forget about all the problems of the old turret, then you’ll have a better overview and normal reloading of the top gun. One pity is that the top down has a terrible reload time (CD), about 10 seconds, and this is the main negative indicator of our Leo. We come to the heart of the tank - this is the engine. The initial and top engines have a difference of 200 horses, and this is a huge difference for a tank, this is the very first and main plus of its high-speed movement - 65 km/h, and do not delay, but quickly explore it.
Leopard Prototype A
People controlling the tank - what perks to download.
The crew team is the same and standard and consists of:
The commander-radio operator and we put a sixth sense, repairs are definitely needed, without a doubt, military brotherhood, camouflage of equipment;
For the gunner, too, repairs, a smooth rotation of the turret, as well as military brotherhood, camouflage of equipment;
For the driver-mechanic, too, repairs, of course, smooth running, of course brotherhood in arms, camouflage of equipment;
We will also supply the loader with repairs, a non-contact ammunition rack would not hurt, we need military brotherhood, camouflage of equipment. For me this is the best choice!
Tank has slight differences in the tips I wrote to better upgrade your team. The point is this: when learning is underway, it is better to discard the old skills and exchange them for others that you like. This must be done in such a way as to make the most effective use of the bonuses that the crew can do - upgrade the brotherhood first of all; upon achieving 100% of the skill, this would give us almost no result, but repairs are more practical and the effect will increase during the exercise.
Additional and necessary equipment Leopard Prototyp A.
I would put it in this order: of course, the rammer, without improved ventilation the game is not the same, and a vertical stabilizer is also needed. We play to get damage and this equipment will lead us to the goal.
Necessary equipment.
Here, too, there is the following order: the repair kit and first aid kit are small, and of course, a hand-held fire extinguisher will save us from a fire. My advice to you is to use premium equipment, it is of course a little expensive, but it will help to significantly extend the life of your own car when you are in battle. That’s why the guys are bolder and put everything huge on their favorite tank, namely a large repair kit, a large first aid kit and a fire extinguisher. I think that the fire extinguisher can be replaced with chocolate, everything in a pile with ventilation and brotherhood gives excellent bonuses when reloading both the tank itself and everyone inside.
What style of play.
Slowly but surely we are approaching combat tactics on Leo (Leopard PTA). What's the best way to tank with Leo? You need to know and not forget that Leo has no armor. They will pierce you right away, I think 1% from 100% that a miracle will happen, sometimes you will ricochet, but you need an incredible angle, or twist and at the same time fry the gun into the mask and not penetrate it, maybe slam it into the caterpillar, but this is almost impossible . Leo doesn't like art, can't stand high-explosive shells, most likely he looks like a lvl 10 LT. What can you do, this is the price to pay for incredible maneuverability. We will have a lesson in a random room where we just need to shine more light and shoot more often. There will be moments where Leo will be able to illuminate perfectly, and the visibility is just for this purpose and is wonderful, as much as 400 meters. With his maneuverability, he will instantly be in the right place and help his allies or change his place to a safe one. Remember that Leo has a great weapon for lvl 9 and, most importantly, it’s accurate. With his help, Leo will cause a lot of grief and help the team.
Let's talk about the performance characteristics of Leo:
The cost of Leo is 3,450,000 silver. Initial HP is 1550, and when you pump it up, then it will be 1650. Weighs from 39.17 to 39.5 tons. The chassis rotates at a speed of 38 to 42 degrees/sec. The armor of the hull and turret is not encouraging 70/35/25 and 52/60/ 60 Initial damage is 180-300 and you will reach 293-488 The speed of the gun is from 8.57 to five sec/minute The turret rotates at a speed of 36 degrees/sec Its field of view is 390 - 400 meters Radio communication range 720 - 750 meters Engine power from 630 to 830 horses The speed is remarkable 65 kilometers/hour Guns 90 and 105 cm Well, I think I’ve told you enough, and what you didn’t finish, you can read my article again.
Conclusions.
This is what we got: Leo is fast, highly accurate, has good surveillance, no armor, no air defense, with a terrible DPM. It depends on you, but I wouldn’t keep it for myself; it’s not bad for skilled players who only crave victory and will take advantage of all its advantages for the benefit of the team. It is for these reasons that I do not recommend taking it if you are just a “Dunno” and have your own playing style. Of course, it’s up to you whether to suffer with it or pass by it.

Radio station
As for the radio station, it, like all other elements, is the only one - premium tanks are always delivered fully upgraded to the maximum with optimal equipment. The SEM 25A is a radio that weighs just 50 kilograms but has a communication range of approximately 750 meters, making your teamwork much more effective. Don't forget that World of Tanks is a team game, and success will largely depend on how you work together.
Profitability
As for profitability, a level 10 vehicle should not farm by definition, even with PA. There are, of course, people with fairly straight hands who manage to consistently generate a small income. But this is the exception rather than the rule. Repairs to the car are expensive, and so are the shells. You will only be able to break even or farm a little if you play consistently well. However, many, and I am no exception, will now often use “gold” consumables for silver; I’m already silent about shells... In this case, even breaking even is out of the question.
Study
As mentioned earlier, this tank is premium, so you don’t have to worry about choosing the best parts for it, pumping it up gradually, taking care not to take a wrong turn at any stage. If you have Leopard Prototyp A in stock, then you are already one step away from receiving this tank. All you need for this is 216 thousand experience. This is a lot, but you should remember that you will receive a tier ten tank in elite condition, that is, fully upgraded, with the best equipment - in other words, a top model. So you should definitely consider getting this vehicle as it is considered by many to be one of the best, if not the best, German tanks.
Equipment for Leopard 1
Due to the fact that we do not have any tangible shortcomings that could be corrected by installing additional modules, it is necessary to further enhance the existing advantages.
Thus, on Leopard 1 we install the following equipment: 1. – allows you to bring the DPM to really good values; 2. – with this module, the accuracy becomes even better and it will be even easier to shoot straight away; 3. is an excellent option, boosting all the necessary characteristics. As usual, there is a good alternative to the third point -. However, due to a good basic overview, you need to think carefully before replacing the vent. This choice should be made only by those who like to play from a review.
Changes
However, there are people who have been driving the Leopard Prototyp A tank for a long time and may wonder if it's really worth the expense to get the new model. The answer is yes, but if you need proof, it can easily be provided by comparison. What will the new model inherit from the previous one? It's sad, but she gets the old hull, and with it the old armor, which isn't much better. Accordingly, the defensive aspect has practically not improved - it is almost as easy to penetrate the armor of the Leopard-1 as in the case of the Leopard Prototyp A. But what then is the point of leveling up? There are a huge number of factors speaking in favor of the latest model - take, for example, much improved visibility, improved vertical guidance and much more impressive cross-country ability. It is especially worth noting that you get an incredible weapon at your disposal, which has a much higher rate of fire compared to the previous one, and at the same time the accuracy does not suffer - it also becomes even better.
Equipment
As I said in the previous guide: “That’s it!” Now we no longer need to pump anything, the machine has no other modules other than standard ones. Therefore, I think there is no need to consider the research branch. There’s simply nothing there =) But I’ll still look at each module in more detail, so that you can understand, even before the start of the battle, what the strength and weakness of the machine are.
We got the gun from the previous vehicle. Naturally, it has now become much more pleasant to play on it. The rate of fire, accuracy and aiming time have changed for the better. It has huge one-time damage and allows you to perfectly irritate enemy CTs or engage in an almost equal battle even with TTs, but this is only after you get a good feel for the car. Overall, the gun is excellent; with such damage, armor penetration and, most importantly, accuracy, many guns nervously smoke on the sidelines.
The tower is not particularly noticeable. Of the obvious shortcomings, I will only note the low armor in the frontal projection. Everything else looks quite normal. The turning speed is high, the visibility is more than good. In terms of visibility, only Patton 3 surpasses us, and then only by 10 meters. Of course, coupled with equipment and skills, this is a fairly compelling argument, but his specialization is different... For us, our review is enough for our eyes.
The engine is quite powerful for our weight, it provides excellent speed and maneuverability to the car. Another very significant advantage is the low percentage of fire. Only 2 cars in the game currently have a similar fire rate. Take advantage of this, carry something more useful instead of a fire extinguisher, which will be needed once every 50 battles. Moreover, with the release of 0.8.5 and the introduction of the sale of gold consumables for silver, there is something to deliver.
The chassis has fairly good resistance to various soils and, as a result, it is relatively easy to drive the car through various swamps. As for the turning speed, it will be enough for us.
Our radio station is also good, 750 meters is enough. I would also like to note that this is one of the highest indicators at level 10, and indeed in the game in general. So we use what they give us.
How to use this tank?
It will be much easier for those gamers who have already spent some time with the Leopard Prototyp A tank, because these two models are similar in the tactics of their use during battle. Leopard-1 is best used as a sniper, who can conduct quick and targeted fire from a long distance on tanks that have been spotted by allied reconnaissance forces. But there is also another very interesting option - if you do not have other tanks in your team that can play the role of a “raider”, that is, one who could break through a slightly cleared flank to enemy artillery, then Leopard-1 is perfect for this task.
pros
Well, it's time to look at Leopard-1 on a larger scale and sum it up - what is this tank? What are its advantages? What are the disadvantages? And most importantly, how to use these pros and cons for your own purposes? Many gamers do not pay attention to this and simply fight on all machines the same way - this is a huge mistake, which in most cases leads to defeat. You should understand what positive aspects your tank has in order to try to use them as often as possible and at the right moment, and also know what disadvantages it has so that you can always remember them and hide them from your enemies. So, if we are talking about the advantages, then it is worth highlighting first of all the excellent speed and maneuverability characteristic of this tank. All this is complemented by an impressive overview, which makes the vehicle extremely dangerous - especially if you remember its main advantage, a rapid-fire and extremely accurate weapon, which also has an impressive ammunition capacity. The list doesn’t end there – you can recall the engine’s low flammability, good camouflage, good vertical guidance and excellent cross-country ability in any territorial conditions. This tank is starting to seem like paradise, and that’s why you shouldn’t turn your nose up, it’s better to pay attention to its shortcomings.
Minuses
The main drawback of this tank is its armor. The armor is too thin, and the angles of inclination prevent enemy shells from ricocheting and literally lure them towards you for a direct hit. It is also worth noting that the ammunition rack is vulnerable, although not as vulnerable as it was on the Leopard Prototyp A. And, of course, the dimensions of this tank make it a tempting target for the enemy, who will always try to take advantage of the opportunity to attack you. Especially if he knows that your weapon, although powerful, fast-firing and accurate, also has far from the best stabilization. As you can see, this tank is very good, but it is not without its drawbacks.
Advantages and disadvantages
Having familiarized ourselves in detail with the tactical and technical characteristics of Leopard 1, we can summarize the data obtained and highlight its strengths and weaknesses.
Advantages:
- large alpha strike;
- high armor penetration;
- the best accuracy and aiming time among level 10 STs;
- comfortable UVN;
- high projectile speed;
- excellent dynamics and maneuverability;
- excellent review;
- low probability of arson.
Flaws:
- weak armor;
- there are no rational angles of inclination of armor plates;
- frequent damage to the ammunition rack;
- large dimensions as for ST;
- mediocre stabilization of the gun in motion;
- long recharge.
Reviews
This tank in the game is far from new, so you can safely be guided by the reviews left by gamers who have already tried driving this vehicle. In most cases, they note in their reviews the high maneuverability and excellent performance of the gun, but quite a few people complain about the low armor performance. Some even turn to the developers to increase the thickness of the armor, especially on the tower, but if you think logically, this would upset the game balance and would no longer correspond to the real prototype. But if you look at it in general, the reviews about this tank are positive, so you can safely start playing on it without fear that other gamers are dissatisfied with this machine.
Bottom line
It's time to draw a line under all of the above and decide whether Leopard 1 is really that good? Yes, this tank is actually extremely impressive in its performance, despite some of its shortcomings. It is multifunctional and can be used for various purposes. As an attacking model, it is good because it has a gorgeous weapon, ideally combined with high speed and impressive visibility. But this tank can also be used for defense - here it is worth noting its speed, which allows it to quickly return to base from an attack in order to neutralize the threat of its capture. You can also use the Leopard 1 as a support tank, as its gun allows you to fire accurately at many targets, providing cover for more powerful allies. You may be surprised, but this vehicle can even be used as a reconnaissance vehicle - its good visibility and excellent dynamics allow you to scout the area, although its large dimensions can still bring some trouble. And, of course, you can act in the honorable role of an “armor piercer”, because the penetration of your gun (especially those equipped with cumulative shells) is extremely high. The result is a very powerful tank that can become a real threat if managed properly.
Tactical Tips
Leopard is a semi-light tank that is almost close to the middle class of military equipment.
For active “light”, the first thing at the start is to make the obligatory “lap of honor” along the front line, showing the allies the configuration of the advancing enemy group. Then you drive to the rear and fight the breaking through “fireflies”, or counter their work. When the job is done, go to the flanks and highlight there, simultaneously popping up in unexpected places and causing sudden damage. And only after destroying the main forces, rush into a breakthrough through the enemy rear.
With passive “light” everything is even simpler. Speed towards iconic bushes or a good vantage point on the mountain. You may have to fight for this place with other reconnaissance enthusiasts while standing. Destroy them immediately before their denser counterparts approach. The ideal option is a ram. Don’t take risks and don’t lean out to the side that the enemy is shooting at in order to pursue the fleeing ones; on the contrary, try to lure light tanks under the guns of your allies. And then stand and get experience and credits for light damage.
If a dangerous life on the front line does not appeal to you, then it is quite possible to get hired to protect the base and artillery positions from breaking through killers. Stand somewhere nearby in the bushes and shoot the sprinters directly at the tracks. After you have immobilized them, jump right off the bat and ram them. Did not work out? Place the “firefly” on the auto-aim and weave cunning patterns around it, pouring “golden rain” from sub-calibers. The opponent will definitely not be able to withstand such “courtship” and will melt away with the transition to the hangar.
Do you want to bend over? Forward to sabotage and reconnaissance activities! First, you jump along the front line, pretending to be an active “light.” Then, when the opposing teams clash on one of the flanks, you abruptly move there. While the “heavies” are busy with long and tedious shootouts, you burst into the enemy’s position and begin a “merry carousel”. Even the fattest tank will feel sick when the Leo unloads its magazine into its rear. Then quickly move away and dissolve before the next attack. The main thing here is to feel the moment and the map, so as not to run into execution.
