Soviet art self-propelled gun of the eighth level SU-14-2 World of Tanks - guide from aces.gg

Hello tankmen and women, welcome to aces.gg! Today we will touch on the topic of huge calibers, completely immodest alpha strikes and shooting across the entire map, because our guest is the Soviet Art-SPG of the eighth level - this is the SU-14-2 guide

.

I would like to say that each artillery in our game is different, often certain features appear depending on the nation, and in our case there are similar nuances too. Now we will take a detailed look at the SU-14-2 characteristics

, we will fully equip the machine, and also see how comfortable it is to play on it and how best to do it.

Research tree

This self-propelled gun will quickly rise to the top. In principle, she is almost immediately at the top.

We immediately install the gun (weight allows), which we already rode with on the SU-14-1 - the most lethal thing even at level 8.

After this, we open the chassis to be able to install the equipment. Driving without a “rammer” and “drives” is not very pleasant. Plus we will add dynamics to this.

If the radio was opened earlier, we can install it right away. In principle, it should be enough for us in any situation.

And finally, some power from the new engine. Despite the fact that our dynamics are poor, installing a new engine will significantly improve our speed qualities.

History of the creation of the SU-14 self-propelled gun

On September 17, 1931, Spetsmashtrest received the task of creating a chassis for high-power and special-power artillery. It was supposed to be self-propelled:

  • 107-mm cannons of the 1910/30 model, 152-mm howitzers of the 1909/30 model and 203-mm mortars of the 1930 model (the so-called “self-propelled hull triplex”).
  • 152-mm high-power cannons, 203-mm howitzers of the 1929/31 model and 305-mm mortars (the so-called “triplex of Special Purpose Heavy Artillery (TAON)”)

The model for the “hulled” chassis was taken from the elongated chassis from the T-24 tank (later T-28), and for the “TAON triplex” - a special chassis using components from a promising heavy tank being created (meaning the T-35 tank). Moreover, neither the 152-mm cannon nor the 305-mm mortar of the “TAON triplex” existed yet, and the “hull” version was generally postponed for two years. Thus, the only remaining option was a combat vehicle armed with a 203 mm B-4 howitzer.

In 1933, at the Experimental Plant of Spetsmashtrest, under the leadership of Pavel Syachintov, the design of an experimental self-propelled unit for the “TAON triplex” began, which soon received the index SU-14 .

Drawing of the SU-14 in its original version (chassis from the T-35)

The first chassis was ready in May 1934, but due to breakdowns of the transmission, which was borrowed from the T-28 medium tank, development lasted until the end of July. During the factory run-in, a “low power” B-4 gun barrel was installed on the chassis. In this form, the SU-14 went to the test site.

The results of these tests were not encouraging: the gearbox broke, several tracks were cracked, and the engine constantly overheated. And this is without any long distance running. The SU-14 (or rather the tested B-4) fired well, but very slowly. Heavy shells had to be lifted with the help of inconvenient winch cranes; the vehicle rocked violently from each salvo; the design of the sliding floor-hatch, which broke during testing, was also unreliable.

The SU-14 “appeared” for repeated testing with reinforced tracks, an improved cooling system, and a modified artillery system. The low-power gun barrel was replaced by a high-power barrel with a liner. Now the tests began with a run-in, but the SU-14 only covered 34 km. The gearbox failed again. The rate of fire of the gun, if improved, was only insignificant.

There was no point in finishing the car; rather, it was a question of a complete redesign. This event began (“major modernization” in plant terms) on January 31, 1935. The self-propelled gun received a gearbox and main clutch from the T-35 heavy tank, but the artillery part did not undergo any changes. However, from April 5 to August 24, 1935, during special factory tests, the modernized SU-14 model covered more than 500 km in various conditions, demonstrating good combat and driving performance.

However, the car had more disadvantages than advantages. It was impossible to fire through the ball embrasures (for DT machine guns), just as it was impossible to quickly use the transportable ammunition, which was reliably blocked in the stowed position by the body of the gun.

Advantages and disadvantages of the car in the top configuration

pros

  • Excellent penetration and high alpha strike
  • Good stabilization of the sight when turning the body (this is important for us, given the small horizontal aiming angle)
  • Closed cabin (best protection against land mines + we can install a “valve”)

Minuses

  • Extra large sizes
  • Bad dynamics
  • Small horizontal aiming angles
  • Not the best mixing and accuracy
  • Slow reload

Tactics

If you have reached level 8, then it is unlikely that I will be able to teach you anything. But, as they say, “there is no limit to perfection,” so you should always remember the basic principles of playing artillery. In our case (with our low reload speed) we have to think about every shot and analyze the situation on the game map, correctly choosing the direction in which we need to help. Don’t forget to change your position if you see that one of the flanks is lost and the enemy will soon be at your base - don’t count on “maybe” and “oh well, I’ll break through somehow.” You need to act in advance. Good art is art with a smart person in front of a monitor. Good luck!

Self-propelled gun "Acacia": characteristics

The combat weight of the installation is 27.5 tons (the relatively low weight of the Akatsiya allows it to be transported on transport aircraft), length with the forward-facing gun is 7765 mm, height is 3050 mm, width is 3250 mm. The ground clearance of the self-propelled gun is 450 mm, the average specific ground pressure is 0.6 kg/cm2. Engine power is 520 hp, speed is 2000 rpm. Characteristics of the chassis: individual suspension, caterpillar propulsion type, the 1st and 6th rollers are equipped with hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers, the width of the rubber-metal track is 485 mm, the number of tracks is 115. The fuel reserve is 850 liters. Maximum speed – 63 km/h. Power reserve – 500 km. The vehicle is able to overcome obstacles: climb - 30 degrees, roll - 25 degrees, ditch - 3 meters, wall - 0.7 meters, ford - 1 meter. The frontal armor of the body and turret is 30 mm. The crew of the self-propelled howitzer consists of four people.

Optional equipment

SU-14-2 has a closed wheelhouse. “So what?” you ask. And I will answer you: we can install improved ventilation. Together with the Battle Brotherhood, it will give us a good increase in all indicators. And of course, let’s not forget about our old friends – the “rammer” and the aiming “drives”. I have listed the prices below:

  • “Reinforced aiming drives” - 500,000 silver
  • “Large caliber howitzer rammer” – 600,000 silver
  • “Improved ventilation Class 3” - 600,000 silver

  3. Optional

The SU-14-2 is one of the few self-propelled guns for which camouflage is not a primary skill (due to our size). Therefore, in place of our “pioneer”, I strictly recommend the Battle Brotherhood in order to get a pleasant combination of “BB+Ventilation” as early as possible. Next, follow the above suggested order, and in the optional fields, select what you like best.
