Tier 5 tank destroyer US M10 Wolverine World of Tanks - guide from aces.gg

Hello to all bush shooters and welcome to aces.gg! Comrades, now we will talk about a strong and rather unique vehicle, an American tank destroyer of the fifth level - this is the M10 Wolverine guide

.

The uniqueness of this tank is its fully rotating turret, because at the fifth level this is truly a rarity among self-propelled guns. In addition, the M10 Wolverine has performance characteristics

In many ways they also contribute to an enjoyable and productive game, you just need to know how to play on this machine.

TTX M10 Wolverine

If we compare this self-propelled gun with its classmates, it turns out that we have about the same meager margin of safety as most. But there is also a privilege - the base view of the M10 Wolverine WoT is 370 meters, and this is one of the best indicators at the level.

Now let's move on to the significant disadvantages and now we are talking about the fact that the M10 Wolverine has characteristics

, responsible for survival, are weak in all respects. First of all, the car is very large, tall and thick, therefore its camouflage is weak, and anyone can be hit even from long distances.

At the same time, the American tank M10 Wolverine

did not come out armored at all. In all planes and projections, this vehicle is not far from being called cardboard, and even in the forehead, taking into account all possible inclinations, it is difficult to find more than 68 millimeters of armor.

Perhaps, out of all this sad monotony of defenselessness, only the large gun mantlet stands out. This element is for M10 Wolverine World of Tanks

It has a diamond shape and in some places reaches 95 millimeters in thickness, which periodically causes classmates to tank, but in general it is also very easy to sew.

In our case, everything is fine with the driving characteristics, of course, the T67, a fellow national and level, is the undisputed leader, but the M10 Wolverine tank destroyer

Can't drive much worse. The maximum speed of the car is good, 17 horsepower per ton is enough to develop it quickly enough and maintain it. The only caveat is maneuverability, since we move around quite slowly.

3-in. Gun Motor Carriage M10 - self-propelled artillery unit (SPG) GMC M10 or TD (Tank Destroyer) 3-in. SP, Wolverine (Wolverine).

The self-propelled gun was produced since 1942 and entered service primarily with tank destroyer battalions (54 self-propelled guns each). It was created on the basis of the M4A2 medium tank. At the same time, the chassis and power plant remained unchanged, but the hull and turret were designed anew. Although the thickness of the chassis and side armor remained virtually unchanged compared to the base chassis, the armor plates are located at an angle to the vertical, which increased their resistance to projectiles.

The side surfaces of the turret, open at the top, were slanted, in which the self-propelled gun's armament was installed - a 76.2-mm M7 cannon covered with an armored mantlet with an initial armor-piercing projectile speed of 792 m/s and an anti-aircraft 12.7-mm machine gun. The sights installed in the turret made it possible to fire both directly and from closed positions. The gun's rate of fire was 76 rounds per minute. A radio station and a tank intercom were mounted on the vehicle. In addition to the modification of the M4A2, the chassis of the M4A3 tank was also used for the production of the Vulverine self-propelled guns. Installations on the M4A3 chassis were designated M10A1 and differed from the M10 only in slightly lighter weight (28.6 tons instead of 29.3 tons for the M10). During the Second World War, industry in the United States produced about 6,700 M10 and M10A1 units.

Following the successful installation of a 105 mm howitzer on the chassis of a medium tank in April 1942, the idea arose to place a cannon with a high muzzle velocity on the same chassis in order to obtain a self-propelled gun for the tank destroyer command. The vehicle, designated T35, used an early version of the M4A2 chassis, which was produced at that time, an open top turret with a slight gun declination, converted from the turret of the T1 heavy tank, and a 76-mm cannon.

However, the commission of the Tank Fighter Command demanded that the silhouette of the vehicle be reduced and the hull sheets installed at large angles of inclination. The improved version of the T35E1 on the M4A2 chassis received thicker armor, and the conical turret was replaced with a welded pentagonal one. The vehicle, which entered service in June 1942, received the designation M10 self-propelled gun.

A modification was also produced on the M4A3 chassis, designated the M10A1 self-propelled gun. Most of them remained in America and were used for training or conversion into M35 armored tractors. The rest were supplied under Lend-Lease to the UK.

Grand Blanc Arsenal built 4,993 M10s from September 1942 to December 1943. from October 1942 to September 1943 it produced 1038 М10А1, and Grand Blanc produced 675 М10А1 in September-November 1943. However, 300 vehicles of the latest batch were equipped with a new turret, similar to the M36 (T71) self-propelled guns M35 tracked armored tractor. It was an M10A1 vehicle with the turret removed and a compressor and pneumatic hoses installed, designed to tow 155 mm and 240 mm artillery guns. Crew (with crew) - 6 people, weight - 55,000 lbs.

Self-propelled artillery unit M10 "Wolverine" in British service:

Many M10 and M10A1 self-propelled guns were delivered to the UK in 1944, where they received the designation 3-inch Wolverine self-propelled gun. They found combat use in British units in Italy and France. On most of them, from the end of 1944, 3″ guns were replaced by British 17-pounder (76 mm) guns, which had greater armor penetration than the 3″ M10. In this new version, the vehicle was designated as the 17-pound Achilles Mk IC self-propelled gun.

The M10A1 self-propelled gun, converted in the same way, was designated “Achilles” Mk IIC. With this alteration, the original gun mask was preserved. The Achilles self-propelled guns, first introduced in small numbers as part of the 21st Army Group in early 1945, were used by the British Army after the war. This was the most successful modification. Vehicles that did not undergo modernization, after removing the turrets, were turned into artillery tractors, one of them was tested as a self-propelled plow mine trawl.

gun

The situation with firepower in the case of our American is interesting, but at the same time completely ambiguous, if only because there are two weapon options to choose from that are worthy of attention.

For starters, the M10 Wolverine has a gun

There is a regular one, with a caliber of 76 millimeters. It doesn't stand out as a particularly powerful alpha strike, but it has a mind-blowing rate of fire, thanks to which we can deal more than 2100 units of damage per minute without perks or equipment.

At the same time, the penetration of the gun is quite weak, it is only enough to comfortably fight with classmates and sixth levels, but the latter will have to be targeted correctly. But to break through sevens, the American tank M10 Wolverine

You must have gold with you, otherwise it will be difficult to play.

In terms of comfort in dealing damage, we have good spread, problematic stabilization, but very fast reduction, which compensates for the first two parameters. By the way, tank destroyer M10 Wolverine

is capable of lowering the gun 10 degrees down, which is very convenient, and thanks to the rotating turret you will never experience problems with the UGN.

If we talk about the second weapon, it is a 105-mm high-explosive, the main advantage of which is a large alpha strike and the same fast aiming as our regular gun.

Otherwise with this barrel the M10 Wolverine tank

gets weak penetration and very poor accuracy. The essence of this configuration is to have fun getting into the ideal top, where we will have the opportunity to kill weak opponents with one shot. Otherwise, it is more advisable to go with the top-end weapon options, since that gun is much more stable.

M10

The M10 is the first American self-propelled anti-tank gun developed using a tank chassis. In June 1942, the vehicle was standardized under the designation 3 inch Gun Motor Carriadge M10 (literally, “motor cart for a 3” gun”). In the British army, this vehicle was called the Wolverine.

In its finished form, the M10 tank destroyer was somewhat reminiscent of the M4A2 Sherman tank, on the chassis of which it was created. The vehicle had a welded hull, which differed from the tank hull in its smaller height and inclined sides. A 3'' M7 gun, developed on the basis of an anti-aircraft gun, was installed in a rotating welded pentagonal turret open at the top. The length of the gun barrel was 50 calibers, the initial speed of the armor-piercing projectile was 793 m/s. A 12.7 mm Browning M2HB anti-aircraft machine gun was mounted on a swivel bracket in the rear of the turret. The ammunition consisted of 54 artillery rounds and 1000 rounds of ammunition.

The level of armor protection of the self-propelled guns was significantly reduced compared to the base tank. Thus, the frontal part of the hull had a thickness of 50.8 mm, the sides and rear - 25.4, the roof - 9.5...19, the bottom - 12.7 mm. The thickness of the tower sheets was 25.4 mm. The American military believed that a tank destroyer should have higher mobility characteristics than a tank, even at the expense of its protection. However, the weight was reduced by about 2.5 tons, which had virtually no effect on maneuverability. The M10 self-propelled gun with a combat weight of 29.6 tons developed the same maximum speed as the M4A2 tank - 48 km/h. The cruising range, thanks to the slightly larger capacity of the fuel tanks, was 320 km (for the tank - 290 km). The crew of the self-propelled gun consisted of five people.

In September 1942, serial production of the M10 self-propelled gun began at the Fisher plant. During this month, the first 105 machines left the workshops. Production of the M10 continued until December 1943 and ended with the production of 4993 self-propelled guns.

During mass production, the self-propelled gun was improved very little. It is only worth noting the introduction of a panorama and a quadrant into the sighting system of the vehicle, in addition to the telescopic sight, which allowed the self-propelled gun to fire from closed positions.

The M10 received its baptism of fire during the fighting in Tunisia in March 1943. Until the end of the war they were used in combat in Italy and on the Western Front. Under the Lend-Lease program, almost a third of the M10 self-propelled guns - 2143 vehicles - were transferred to the allies of the anti-Hitler coalition. Of these, Great Britain received 1648, France - 443 and the USSR - 52.

As for the Red Army, two self-propelled artillery regiments were equipped with M10 installations. The 1239th Self-Propelled Artillery Regiment fought as part of the 16th Tank Corps of the 2nd Tank Army of the 1st Belorussian Front. He participated in the liberation of Belarus and Poland.

For example, on July 30, 1944, the regiment moved out from Dęblin to support tank units advancing in the direction of Aleksandrow. SU-85 self-propelled guns from the 1441st self-propelled artillery regiment moved along with the regiment. On the way, due to air strikes, several SU-85s were disabled, but the 1239th self-propelled artillery regiment, all of whose self-propelled guns had large-caliber anti-aircraft machine guns, had no losses. Moreover, the gunner of one of the self-propelled guns, Sergeant Major Lendovsky, shot down a Ju 88 bomber with machine gun fire.

Already in August, in battles in the Warsaw area, in four days, self-propelled guns of the 4th battery of the regiment knocked out three tanks (two of them “Panthers”) and two enemy armored personnel carriers.

The only photograph of the M10 self-propelled gun in the Red Army discovered so far. 3rd Belorussian Front, 1944.

The 1223rd self-propelled artillery regiment as part of the 29th Tank Corps of the 5th Guards Tank Army of the 3rd Belorussian Front took part in operations to liberate Belarus, the Baltic states and East Prussia. On May 1, 1945, the regiment had 1 M10 self-propelled gun, of which, however, only four were operational.

Equipment for M10 Wolverine

Additional modules can significantly make your life in battle easier and affect the final result, but you need to select them wisely. However, for the M10 Wolverine equipment

will mostly improve the already strong points, but in general the package looks like this: 1. – we already have excellent damage per minute, so why not make it, and therefore ourselves, even more powerful. 2. – this option is quite enough to increase a good basic overview almost to the maximum. 3. is the only reasonable completion of the kit, with which our camouflage will become better, and therefore our survivability capabilities will increase.

However, there will still be one “BUT” - until your crew has studied the perks for review, it makes sense to carry instead of the second point. This way you can immediately get a top viewing range, and this solution also works well with a camouflage network.

Crew training

Selecting and learning skills by crew members always takes a lot of time, for this reason this nuance must be taken seriously. for tank destroyer M10 Wolverine

Priority is given to those that improve stealth and affect the process of dealing damage. But we must not forget about the comprehensive increase in characteristics, survivability and some important details, that is, the choice will be as follows: • Commander - , , , . • Gunner – , , , . • Driver mechanic - , , , . • Radio operator – , , , . • Charger – , , , .

Tactics for playing the M10 Wolverine

The strongest point of this tank is its gun, or rather its rate of fire and damage per minute. Accordingly, your main task in battle will be to realize the potential of the gun by any possible means.

In view of this, for the M10 Wolverine tactics

in battle we must be careful, because we must not forget about our dimensions, weak armor and small margin of safety. The easiest way is to take a position on the second line, where it will be more difficult to notice you, and in case of danger you can quickly hide.

The search for a dacha place for firing is simplified due to the fact that the American M10 Wolverine tank

It has good mobility, allowing you to quickly get to the right place, as well as the presence of a rotating turret and good air defense devices. That is, you can stand with the camouflage net activated and not move at all, keeping the stealth bonus active.

Of course, at the same time, the M10 Wolverine WoT tank destroyer

must constantly have good shooting opportunities in order to continuously inflict damage on an allied or even its own light. Remember that you cannot stand at one point all the time; you need to periodically move in search of a more advantageous position.

In addition, when it comes to battles at the top of the list, you can act more actively, gradually getting closer to the enemy, overexposing him. And if the enemy comes close, which is better not to allow, then on the M10 Wolverine World of Tanks

It’s better to play from the tower, hoping for a stronger gun mantlet and your own large DPM.

For the rest, remember that we are very afraid of artillery and mobile opponents who can spin us around. Keep an eye on the mini-map, try to bring as much benefit to the team as possible, and use the vehicle’s potential to the maximum.
