Hello everyone and welcome to aces.gg! Friends, today we will talk about a very unusual and, most importantly, unexpectedly comfortable and strong vehicle, a Japanese medium tank of the seventh level, here is the Type 5 Chi-Ri guide
.
Frankly speaking, at first glance at this unit, one gets the impression that it is incapable of anything serious and will bring a lot of inconvenience and fires below the back. However, the Type 5 Chi-Ri World of Tanks
is really capable of a lot, you just need to understand its “trick”.
TTX Type 5 Chi-Ri
When rolling out this vehicle into battle, every tanker must understand that our Japanese tank has a very good safety margin by the standards of its classmates, as well as a decent basic visibility of 370 meters.
If we touch on Type 5 Chi-Ri characteristics
survivability, I would immediately like to note the very impressive dimensions, the tank really turned out to be very large and bulky.
This fact is definitely a disadvantage, because Chi-Ri World of Tanks
has meager armor.
The most serious numbers, so to speak, await you in the frontal projection. But what is 75 millimeters without any noticeable inclination at the seventh level? Of course, everyone will attack you from any angle, this fact is especially sad in battles against 9 levels. Sides of the Type 5 Chi-Ri medium tank
I got completely cardboard ones, even land mines often come here with full damage.
And one more important nuance, if we hit the NLD, which will always be penetrated, the engine will be crippled, it’s worth mentally preparing for this.
From the point of view of mobility, everything is also not as good as we would like. The 560 horsepower engine has a hard time moving such a large box, which is why the Type 5 Chi-Ri tank WoT
although it has a good maximum speed, it gains it reluctantly, and maneuverability is not this Japanese’s strong point. But it’s worth noting that the car is not slow, just a little stiff.
Tank destroyer “Ho-ri”
The car based on the “Chi-ri” had a slightly better story. Self-propelled gun “Ho-ri”. Its main purpose is to destroy enemy armored vehicles. It was planned to equip it with a 105-mm Type-1 gun, which was based on the famous German FLAK18 anti-aircraft gun.
In addition to this weapon there should have been a second, smaller caliber. The 37-mm Type-1 cannon was located on the side of the driver's mechanic according to the design drawings. For protection against infantry and aircraft, there were places for installing rifle-caliber machine guns (7.7 mm).
According to the project, they decided to install the engine in the middle of the self-propelled gun hull.
In front there is a control compartment with a driver and a gunner-radio operator, who was also the operator of a small-caliber gun. According to the plans, the main weapon was installed in a fixed wheelhouse located at the rear of the vehicle and assembled from armor plates about 180 mm thick.
A lot of money and resources were invested in the project, and a large number of design engineers were involved. This made it possible to complete work on the self-propelled gun in a short time. The first prototype was assembled by August 1945. Field testing has begun. The end of the project was brought about by the end of World War II. No more information about “Ho-Ri” has been preserved. There are no photographs either.
gun
In view of the obvious mediocrity of the general characteristics of the vehicle, there remains hope for its armament, and this is where the fun begins, because we are offered two guns to choose from.
First, let's look at the top Type 5 Chi-Ri gun
and it can be considered the main one, you will soon understand why. This gun has a weak alpha strike, but is equipped with a unique drum for 3 shells. The uniqueness is that the cooldown between shots is only 1 second, the full reload is very fast and you can almost instantly deal about 400 damage, which is quite good for the ST-7.
The barrel also has some problems - it has rather weak penetration, which will be enough to fight at the top of the list. However, for tough battles against eights and nines, the Chi-Ri medium tank
I should carry more gold with me, since we have a lot of ammunition.
From the point of view of accuracy, our “machine gun” is quite good, here you have a very comfortable spread, excellent aiming speed, and only the stabilization is not very pleasing. But Chi-Ri WoT
the gun goes down 10 degrees, which is already good news.
The second weapon, the pre-top gun, has all the same parameters, but lacks the wonderful drum and can only boast higher damage per minute. Of course, she has a Chi-Ri tank
It can also fight, perhaps someone will like it more, but believe me, that very “trick” disappears and the gameplay will no longer look so dynamic and unique.
Brief history of creation and design
Type 5 “Chi-Ri” is a further modification of Japanese medium tanks. Unlike previous models, the new car is larger in size. The chassis was changed: an eighth road wheel was added, the track width became larger than that of the Chi-To. The tower was completely changed.
The first and only prototype was built in May 1945. After the surrender of Imperial Japan, the Type 5 prototype fell into American hands. Next, it was sent to the Aberdeen Proving Ground, and subsequently went into smelting.
The tank crew consisted of 5 people.
In front of the fighting compartment there were a driver and a gunner-radio operator, who was also the operator of a Type-1 small-caliber gun (37 mm). The gun itself was mounted in the frontal non-rotating part of the tank hull.
The mount was trunnion-type, which was a characteristic feature of Japanese vehicles of that time; vertical guidance was carried out using a shoulder rest. It was assumed that this 37-mm gun would be used to destroy lightly armored equipment and vehicles.
The main gun was installed in the tank's turret and was marked Type-5. It was served by a gunner and loader. The gun had a caliber of 75 mm and was a modernization of the Type 4 anti-aircraft gun (80 mm Bofors M29). Good ballistics and a powerful projectile made it possible to effectively fight American and British tanks at a distance of up to a kilometer.
The initial projectile speed of 830 m/s ensured a flat trajectory, armor penetration was 120-130 mm of armor at a distance of up to 500 meters. To reduce reload time, the gun had to be equipped with a 3-shot automatic loader, which was in development at the time of work on the tank.
The turret also provides space for the tank commander. To fire at enemy personnel, it was planned to install 1 - 2 Type-97 machine guns (7.7 mm).
The tank had a classic layout with a front-mounted transmission. The chassis had a Hara-designed suspension, which had previously shown excellent performance on lighter vehicles. There were 4 bogies on each side, each with 2 road wheels and three support rollers. A lantern track with a front drive roller.
12 cylinder carburetor engine, 550 hp. it was planned to be produced under license from BMW. The estimated speed of the tank with it is 45 km/h.
Advantages and disadvantages
To play a tank, especially one as unusual as this Japanese one, you need to know its strengths and weaknesses. For ease of perception, we will put all these nuances on the shelves, but taking into account that the Type 5 Chi-Ri World of Tanks
namely a drum gun. Pros: • Decent safety margin; • Very fast reloading of the drum; • Excellent reloading speed inside the drum • Excellent accuracy; • Comfortable vertical aiming angles. Cons: • Large dimensions of the tank; • Cardboard armor; • There is a lack of mobility; • Mediocre penetration parameters.
Equipment for Type 5 Chi-Ri
Since our car is in some sense unusual, it is not surprising that we have access to some privileges in choosing additional modules. Of course, it's important that your choice emphasizes the tank's strengths, so on the Type 5 Chi-Ri the equipment
Let's put the following: 1. – in our case, it is installed even on a gun with a drum and significantly increases its reloading speed. 2. is an excellent option that will affect all important parameters and make us an even more powerful damage dealer. 3. – what is a medium tank without a good overview? We definitely take it to be able to be the first to detect the enemy.
I would like to note that this configuration is considered the most suitable, but if your crew has not yet learned repair skills, it makes sense to temporarily replace the third point with, a timely subordinated gusla will more than once save your life in battle.

Tactics for playing Type 5 Chi-Ri
Due to the shed-like structure, cardboard design and not the best mobility, playing on this unit cannot be called easy; you must always be very careful, attentive and as careful as possible.
For Type 5 Chi-Ri tactics
combat can consist of both positional firing at long distances and getting closer to the enemy, that is, fighting on the front line. But if in the first case it’s enough to just go all the way and try to target the vulnerable spots of the highlighted enemies, in the second case everything is more complicated.
So, if you're on your Chi-Ri WoT
decided to fight on the first line, learn to keep an eye on your opponents who have fired, because their reload time is an ideal chance to thin out your lightning-fast drum with impunity.
You can also try to deceive your opponent by pretending to look out from behind cover and immediately rolling back, leading him to shoot. With successful development, you should not lose your strength points and discharge the drum again with impunity. However, the Type 5 Chi-Ri medium tank
does not have the best dynamics and such a trick will not always perform perfectly.
For this reason, and also due to the weak armor penetration, regardless of the battle (at the bottom or at the top of the list), it is better to use the element of surprise. Chi-Ri tank
quite mobile, so try to approach the enemy from the side where he is not expecting you. You can also play from the tower; good UVN, accuracy and fast aiming allow you to do this quite efficiently.
Otherwise, I would like to remind you once again that the player on Chi-Ri World of Tanks
must protect your safety margin as much as possible, always be very attentive to what is happening around you, track the mini-map and rely on your ingenuity and cunning, because our Japanese very rarely forgives mistakes.
Trace in culture
Type-5 “Chi-Ri”, like most Japanese tanks, does not have an interesting history and is of little interest to a wide range of people. Information about him can only be found in specialized sources: archival documents, books by military historians. They don't make films about him.
The tank gained some popularity after the release of a line of Japanese vehicles in the popular game “World of Tanks”. There it was placed in the development branch of medium tanks, giving it an interesting feature - a drum-type automatic loader. Following “World of Tanks,” “Chi-ri” appeared in copycat games, which ensured its recognition.
There is also another game project of a similar genre on the virtual entertainment market – “War Thunder”. For a long time they specialized in aviation topics, but at the end of 2013 they announced the appearance of ground vehicles in the game. At first these were German and Soviet cars. Next came the Americans, then the British. Almost immediately, the developers provided information about the Japanese branch of technology.
The developer company positions its project as close to historicity.
Serious work has been done with the archives. I had to contact the Japanese Ministry of Defense for access to the archives. As a result of painstaking work, in the game you can see 3D models of armored vehicles of Imperial Japan, as close as possible to real examples. Including “Chi-ri”.
There have been many interesting and unusual developments of military equipment in Japan. These include manned torpedoes, rear-propeller aircraft, and mobile O-i forts. “Chi-Ri” did not stand out for its unusualness, but it was a solid and well-designed combat vehicle that never took part in battles.
