BAM XS-B50. Why is this air rifle called the “Chinese miracle”?

This is the BAM XS-B50 rifle, or simply BAM 50 in common parlance, which has become almost the world standard for a single-shot, full-size pre-pumped air rifle in the lower price segment.

It’s a copy of some English product, which you can’t tell now, but the shape of the stock and butt is clearly of an English classic design. It is said that the direct ancestor of the BAM 50 was the Daystate X2, an excellent repeating English PCP rifle, creatively redesigned by eastern masters of cheapening.

PCP rifles (pre-inflated with air, the pressure of which then fires) are very comfortable to use, but at the same time incredibly expensive. The BAM 50 (“bumpsyat”, in the slang of fellow air gunners) often becomes the first PCP rifle of people who want to have a powerful and comfortable air rifle for little money, without having to suffer from a broken barrel, jerking levers, etc. Inserted a bullet, fired , inserted a bullet, fired... Did the power of the shot drop? Pump up the air in the under-barrel cylinder and continue shooting. Beauty!

American weapon tuning workshops accelerate the Chinese BAM 50 rifle (7.62 mm caliber uses barrels from a Kalashnikov assault rifle) to an incredible power of 155 J! The rugged design of the BAM 50 rifle can withstand this incredible power.

Let me remind you that in Russia the maximum power of pneumatic weapons allowed by law is only 25 J!

The rifle is incredibly powerful. This is not even a “bucket hole”, as powerful pneumatics are called in narrow circles of fans of air gun shooting, but already a “van hole”!

“BAM 50 with 330 m/s KP10.5 (heavy bullet for Crosman Premier Ultra Magnum air rifles - author’s note) - is your ideal? Where to shoot? Hitting an elephant from close range?” - a real phrase from a weapons forum.

A purchased rifle is often not strengthened, but weakened!

Excellent firing mechanism (trigger mechanism). Thank God, the Chinese did not change anything in the very successful English design. If you put your hands to work and polish the trigger parts, the descent will be smooth and comfortable.

The bolt and bullet rammer are made of the strongest red-hot iron. They are practically eternal!

Shoots out of the box with incredible power and good accuracy. And if you put your hands to it...

The lifespan is quite long for Chinese products - 10,000 shots, again a consequence of a successful and durable design.

Excellent anti-corrosion coating. The rifle is practically rust-free.

There is practically no return.

Convenient for shooting with both right and left hands.

For beginners - a brief “content” of the topic:

Accuracy and the fight against separation on the original 4.5 barrel: Counter-Striker: There will be separations, you can only reduce their number... Baron Munchausen: But it’s impossible to fix the barrel in the clamp... SLMA: Yesterday I measured the entry of the bullet into the rifling with a magnifying glass and a flashlight... SLMA : I sawed a little bit at the entrance of the bullet into the barrel... LVital: I would like to share with the distinguished assembly some assumptions about the accuracy of the BAM50 SLMA: ... a very simple and effective way of dealing with bullet scuffing came to mind...

Original SLMA muzzle: Disassembled the muzzle.

General impressions of the purchase, first disassembly Baron Munchausen: I took off the stock and receiver this morning... OrthoPed: Well, I got the chance, today... Baron Munchausen: I started to slowly pick yesterday... Drix: ...and yesterday I got the hang of it!

We begin to look for a “plateau” on the knee SLMA: Well, I started tinkering with mine today... SLMA: Yesterday I reduced the performance characteristics of the rifle... SLMA: I adjusted my BAM here... SLMA: I made, so to speak, deep tuning. TTyx: Please tell me how to straighten the plateau.

Real results for setting up the Youri plateau: I made a telescopic guide with an EinarGodi clamping device: how can I reduce the speed and find the plateau? Youri: I’ll write for everyone a “homemade” way to remake YOU

If some question was not covered in this particular topic, or you did not find what you were looking for, try looking here: Almost everything about BAM-50

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Well, now, how it all began back in 2005...

May dear KVK forgive me for plagiarizing the topic. Well, gentlemen, the results will be presented to the public. I’ll tell you right away, don’t expect any sensations.

I shot the first BAM from the new batch on a pile and a plateau. Everything out of the box. Heap. With the original chamfer, the pile on a 50m Premier Ultra Magnum in a met bank (similar to KP-shki) is around 4-5cm. There are strange gaps of 5-7 cm to the side of the STP. I was laying in the forest at the dacha, there was a wind, I stood and leaned on the roof of the car. Well, I’m not much of a shooter - my hands are shaking, I feel sorry for the car... . But don’t let this make you (potential owners) relax. It’s not a fact that the shooting range will improve with bags. It may or may not have seemed like it - removing the muzzle improves the pile by 0.5 1 cm and there seem to be fewer separations. There are 3 assumptions regarding the separations: 1. The shooter 2. The barrel is slightly loose in the clamp 3. There is a burr at the entrance, not rifling. This suspicion arose because... While driving the bullets down the barrel with a ramrod, I noticed in 1 case out of 3 burrs on the skirt. I tried sending it with a rammer and then driving it with a cleaning rod - 100% of the bullets came out normal. Maybe the cleaning rod is rubbish. I redid the chamfer (thanks for the advice Youri) - subjectively the pile gathered up to 2-3 cm, but the tears did not disappear. Trunk. Running a bullet through the barrel showed that it had a choke, but the choke was on the side of the receiver for half the barrel, and not where it usually is on expensive devices. A couple of difficulties were noticed. After 2 passes of the brass brush everything became quite smooth. The bullet began to fall out of the cut without delay. There is no independent failure of the bullet. The cuts on the bullet are clearly visible, both on the head and on the skirt. There is a suspicion that the muzzle (or rather the air pressure in it) interferes with the bullet, because its plug is solid and about 4 centimeters deep. Those. it turns out a second mini barrel with a diameter of 6mm. I want to shorten it. At the same time, the volume of the muzzle will increase, which should have a positive effect on the sound level. I haven’t noticed any air leaks yet (3*ugh) I like the descent. The bed is too big for me. The butt plate smells like rubber, like a fresh BL-85. Now shooting at speed and pressure. I was shooting on an improvised machine in a barn, by the way, I pierced the lid of a 250 liter barrel right through, and there was 2.5mm metal there. So much for 7.5 J... I shot with the pump connected to check the pressure. 10.5 grain bullets Here it is: Shot Speed Pressure

As you can see, out of the box there is plenty of dope in it. The hint of a plateau is only at the beginning. And even at such a speed... Well, and more. We have already written about the difficulties of hitting the target right out of the box. It is there. I fiddled with the spacers in the rings under the optics until I got them in the middle. True, the rings I have are the cheapest ZOS for 200 rubles - the toad was choking on buying something expensive for such a rifle. As a result, I set the sight to the middle with spacers. Everything fell into place. IMHO something needs to be done about the “movement” of the barrel in the tank bracket.

I crashed 2 cars on the fly - they are country cars, no internet, and have not heard about the new “cargo of death” in Moscow.

General impressions - big, heavy, not scary when passing checkpoints in the region; before that I had not had rifles of this type. I think this is where you can start getting acquainted with PCP. I'm happy with this purchase.

The first thing I set out for myself was to deal with the gaps and the muzzle. Then you can start looking for a plateau. Well, you need to weaken it a little, of course.

Tell me, what associations do you have when you hear the phrase “Chinese” when applied, for example, to industrial goods? I understand, not entirely positive. Poor quality, cheap and fragile... So, there is a durable, yet cheap and relatively high-quality Chinese product.

Convenient for shooting with both right and left hands.

Flaws.

First of all, very unstable workmanship. The quality of the barrel is tape measure, the build quality is similar. Interestingly, the materials used are quite high quality!

The weapon is quite heavy, and there is no “balance” at all; it is almost impossible to shoot accurately from the hands, without a rest. At the same time, when shooting from a rest, the BAM 50 rifles show very good results for their price.

Sometimes the trunk is useless, even crooked. First of all, when buying a new gun, you need to look at the barrel: straightness, alignment (the barrel is located exactly in the center of the stock) and the condition of the rifling. Everything else can be fixed, but the barrel, if it is defective, will have to be replaced entirely.

Inconvenient cocking handle. Although... a person gets used to everything...

Fastener bolts, raw, low-quality steel. Because of this, something always wobbles in the rifle.

From the personal. This rifle is almost a full-size firearm in size. When leaving your home, you must have a certificate with you. Otherwise... civilians will mistake him for a killer and call the police. To purchase an unweakened rifle in Russia, in theory, you need a license. Precisely in theory, because these weapons are sold without any license. The certificate of conformity can be obtained either in a store or downloaded on the Internet and certified with the seal of a gun store, if the seller does not have one. And this happens sometimes.

Conclusion.
“YOU 50 is a good thing, profitable and strong”
- a phrase from the “bampisyatnikov” forum.
Although, this product of the Chinese arms industry will require “hands-on” in any case, whether you want it or not. But before buying more expensive European “petsepeh”, which cost incredible money (almost always more than $1500), it is better to use this “Chinese miracle” costing just over $400. It is quite possible that you will not need any other weapon. There is a huge amount of material on the Internet on upgrading this interesting rifle. The BAM 50, if initially brought to normal condition (cut off the burrs, grind the trigger parts, replace the mounting screws with hardened ones) and regularly maintain it (change worn rubber bands, regularly remove any backlashes and rebuild the filling valve) will delight the owner with accurate and powerful shooting for many years . Well, isn't it a miracle for only $400? https://shkolazhizni.ru/archive/0/n-55766/
