Design

The Hatsan 85 spring-mechanical pneumatic fires a shot by breaking the barrel. Lead bullets are used as cartridges. Can be used with Berthollet salt. Before increasing power, it is not recommended to choose ammunition weighing more than 0.70 g.

The corrugations on the handle and forend are transverse, long, sparse and small. There is a cheek piece on the left side of the butt for easy aiming. The butt plate is equipped with a rubber shock absorber, which can be adjusted using spacers.

The release mechanism has one stroke, adjustable. The descent is relatively tight. The fuse is automatic, located at the rear of the receiver.

The front and rear sights have fiber optic fibers for shooting at dusk. The rear sight is adjustable in two positions. A dovetail is installed on top of the compressor for mounting an optical sight.

Options and packaging

The rifle is packaged in a cardboard box with the words Hatsan Air Rifles on the lid, the rifle itself and a series of wide orange lines.

It comes assembled; three foam pads are placed for shock absorption - under the muzzle, forend and butt plate.

Video review of the Hatsan 85 air rifle:

The main pros and cons of the rifle

AdvantagesFlaws
Ease of aiming with front and rear sightsThe appearance of play between the barrel and the compressor hole
Possibility of modernizationThe barrel is difficult to break, you need to put in a lot of effort
Installing an optical sightThere is no muzzle chamfer on the breech of the barrel, this complicates loading
High initial bullet speedHard descent

Which optics to choose

The dovetail strip is 11 mm wide. It is cut directly onto the compressor housing and is not very reliable. If you installed a reinforced coil spring, then you should refuse to install optical sights.

In other cases, use the Pilad P1x20 red dot sight. It is lightweight, small in size and its body is made of aluminum alloy. Its mounting on an actual imitation rail will be quite reliable, and the design will withstand the recoil of medium caliber firearms (20-16).

Possibilities for increasing power

Despite the fact that the basic configuration of the Hatsan 85 contains a reinforced spring, it is advisable to immediately replace the coiled one with a gas one. Before upgrading the gun, you need to make a tightening machine. What is suitable for a board with a thickness of at least 4 cm and a length of 50 cm longer than the trunk. Small bars of the same thickness are attached to the ends. To clamp the spring, you can use a car jack. A wooden lining is installed between the jack and the gun mechanism plug.

To replace the spring, you need to follow these steps:

  1. The gun is being disassembled.
  2. Inspect the cuff that is located on the piston. Change it if necessary.
  3. You won't need the old spring.
  4. If a gas spring was purchased specifically for Hatsan 85 pneumatics, then no modification is required.
  5. Place the piston in its place.
  6. Insert the gas spring into the piston rod.
  7. Using a jack, press the plug until the threads match and screw it into the compressor.
  8. Drive the pin into the hole that is located on the edge of the rear mechanism.
  9. Remove the jack and reassemble the gun.

Disassembling the Hatsan 85 air rifle

Disassembly skills will be required when deciding to improve the model or if there is a need for cleaning, lubrication or repair work. The process has several stages, but is not complicated.

If the gun is not upgraded, then the use of additional equipment will not be required. Otherwise, you need to assemble a tightening machine.

To disassemble the rifle you need:

  1. Unscrew the 2 bolts on both sides of the forend, remove the pin on the shock absorption system.
  2. Unscrew the 2 bolts that secure the trigger guard.
  3. Remove the stock from the mechanism.
  4. Remove the two pins on the compressor that are located in front of the muzzle.
  5. Remove the pin on the release mechanism to release the sear.
  6. Remove the pin on the compressor plug and remove the fuse at the same time as the rod.
  7. Unscrew the coupling where the rear bolt securing the trigger guard was screwed in.
  8. Remove the release mechanism.
  9. Remove the last pin on the compressor.
  10. Break the barrel, so the spring will push the plug out.
  11. Remove the piston and guide spring.
  12. Remove the pins on the break joint and disassemble it by removing the barrel (if necessary).
