Pneumatic Hatsan Torpedo 155 - a particularly powerful rifle with an under-barrel lever

Technical characteristics of Hatsan 155

One of the main advantages of the Hatsan 155 rifle is its combat characteristics. You can get acquainted with them in more detail in the weapons passport, which necessarily comes with the model in the kit. Here is the information that can be found in the document:

CharacteristicParameter
Caliber4.5 mm
Barrel length720 mm
Barrel typesmoothbore
Ammunition typelead bullets
Magazine capacity1
Shot speedup to 380 m/s
Rate of fire40 rounds per minute
Power7.5 J
Aimcombination plank
Energy sourcespring
Weight4800 grams

One of the main features of the rifle is the high muzzle velocity. Despite the fact that the power of the muzzle energy does not exceed 7.5 J, the engineers managed to achieve exorbitant heights in this regard. As a result, we have a weapon comparable in terms of lethal characteristics to most professional rifles (from 30 J), but purchased without a license. Thanks to this, the rifle has such a wide specialization - it can be used both in sports competitions and for hunting small or medium-sized fur-bearing animals.

It is also impossible not to note the fairly large weight of the rifle. On the one hand, this does not allow anyone to use the weapon - the rifle is only suitable for men with an athletic build. However, the developer simply could not help but reduce the mass of the weapon, otherwise the recoil from a powerful shot would be simply enormous. And so the large weight partially dampens the inertia that the bullet has during the shot. So before purchasing a weapon, you should seriously think about what is more important: holding a light rifle in your hands or shooting without recoil.

Tuning

Upgrading high-velocity air rifles typically presents a number of challenges due to the trade-off between accuracy and power.

Considering the complexity of disassembling the model yourself, we can only recommend the main directions for its upgrade, which require special skills and equipment:

  1. Reducing the mass of the piston leads to an increase in shot speed.
  2. Adjusting the barrel chamfers by grinding ensures that the bullet leaves the rifling evenly and increases the accuracy of fire.
  3. Elimination of backlash is achieved by seating fixed parts on sealant, laying seals or adjusting individual metal parts.

Reviews of the Torpedo 155 leave an ambivalent impression - the rifle is extremely powerful, but does not always provide good accuracy. Immediately after purchase, the model should be taken to a workshop for depreservation (removal of excess grease) and initial diagnostics. Regular maintenance and careful handling will extend the life of the rifle and maintain high performance.

Design

It's time to talk about the most interesting thing that the Torpedo 155 air rifle has to offer. Yes, the design of the weapon is simple to the point of impossibility, because even an amateur can figure it out. However, this does not mean that the engineers did not use a few tricks to create a model that is visually indistinguishable from ordinary parts found almost everywhere. Here are just a few features that deserve attention:

  1. Twisted spring. Most single shot rifles have this striker mechanism as it is the most preferred for non-automatic weapons. However, the spring that is in the Hatsan Torpedo is much more rigid and thick, due to which the initial speed of the bullet is 300 m/s. However, due to the fairly long barrel, the muzzle energy power does not exceed 7.5 J, which allows you to buy the model without a license (from 18 years of age) in absolutely any store.
  2. Sighting bar. As indicated in the technical specifications, it is combined: Weaver + dovetail. To install an optical or collimator sight, it is enough to purchase any device whose mounting width is 11 or 16 millimeters. As for the open sight, it is a classic sports front sight with a Truglo rear sight, which is coated with fiber-optic threads in contrasting colors. This feature allows you to use the rifle in low light conditions.
  3. Quat Trigger System. Most people are no longer surprised by the ability to adjust the trigger stiffness on air rifles. However, how often is such a mechanism found not in professional, but in amateur weapons? The system will be great for those who want to improve their rifle shooting skills, because when pressing the trigger, people often jerk the rifle, thereby disrupting the trajectory of the bullet. This will not happen with the Torpedo, especially if you set the trigger to soft.

As for the remaining design features, they are unlikely to seem as interesting as the three previous ones. The metal parts of the rifle are made of high-quality cold forged carbon steel, and walnut is used as wood. The weapon is also equipped with a rubber butt pad, which absorbs any remaining recoil, preventing the shooter from injuring his shoulder.

Device

The rifle is designed according to a common design in which the air system is located behind a fixed barrel. Using a lever allows you to avoid loosening and deformation of the barrel caused by excessive force during cocking.

The model is equipped with a combined fuse located on the receiver (in the rear). It turns on automatically during reloading and is removed manually (with the thumb of the shooting hand). The protective system blocks the trigger when loading, increasing safety and reducing the likelihood of mechanism failure.

The main pros and cons of the rifle

When reviewing air guns, you cannot talk only about their positive aspects, since disadvantages (albeit minor) can be found everywhere. However, it would be wrong to list the rifle’s shortcomings, since this would lead the reader to think that the Hatsan Torpedo is a collection of continuous shortcomings and problems. Therefore, based on the opinions of users and experts, we have compiled a special block with the positive and negative features of the weapon, so that the potential buyer has at least an approximate idea of what awaits him after purchase:

AdvantagesFlaws
Relatively low price for a weapon that has the power of a professional rifleLong reload time (during the hunt there will be a chance to use only one shot)
Good technical characteristics combined with the possibility of purchasing a model without a licenseThe weight of the weapon does not allow the shooter to be used by any size (girls, teenagers)
Possibility to install almost any existing body kit (collimator, diopter, night vision devices, etc.)Fiber optics are not suitable for shooting at small targets from long distances
Almost complete absence of recoil due to the large weight, as well as the presence of a shock absorber on the buttLack of full repair. included in the set (a cleaning rod and sear will have to be purchased)

Do the positives outweigh the negatives? Each person must answer this question for himself. We can only provide the opinions of users, and also remind them that most shortcomings can and should be dealt with. For example, haters of fiber optics can easily install a collimator on a rifle, the weight of the weapon can be reduced by replacing the wooden stock with a plastic one, and a repair kit can be purchased at almost any gun store.

Depreservation

All new Hatsan 125 air rifles are lubricated with a special preservative oil that prevents metal corrosion. Before shooting, it is recommended to clean the barrel (from the chamber side) of grease. To clean weapons, use soft rags, commercial patches and a cleaning rod. The barrel can be cleaned using vfg felt cylinders. It is forbidden to clean air guns with an iron brush (it may scratch the metal surface). More details here.

Modifications

Since the Hatsan Torpedo air rifle appeared on the market relatively recently, the weapon has not yet had time to acquire a large number of modifications. However, gun store owners are in a hurry to correct this shortcoming and produce their own models that do not have an official name, but differ from the standard model. Here are just a few of the most common examples:

  1. Hatsan Torpedo 155 with gas cylinder. Many owners did not like the fact that the rifle does not have the ability to reduce the speed of the bullet (not everyone wants to cut the spring). Therefore, craftsmen invented a model that uses a gas cylinder as the main source of energy (it’s easy to regulate air etching).
  2. Hatsan Torpedo 155 with optical sight. The dream of any hunter who wants to shoot from the greatest possible distance (up to 300 meters) exactly on target. Also included is a pair of bipods, which are useful for zeroing in optics or even using them during hunting.
  3. Hatsan Torpedo 155 in camouflage. Another model tailored for hunting. The wooden stock and butt were completely replaced with plastic, which was later painted in “Military” color. Now the rifle will not stand out from the general camouflage of the hunter, which will increase the chances of catching prey.

As for official modifications, they do not exist yet. We can only hope that the Turkish arms factory is preparing something grandiose for its customers that will further advance the Torpedo 155 in the rankings and displace its competitors.

Hatsan 125 modifications

The Turkish manufacturer Hatsan produces several Hatsan 125 models. All pneumatic varieties operate on a spring-piston mechanism and have a similar design, but differ in coloring and some design features.

Modifications of "Hatsan 125":

  • 125 - classic butt connected to the handle (black);
  • 125 E - classic black, no bracket for installing optics;
  • 125 TN - black stock with a slot (pistol grip);
  • 125 MW - classic, wood coloring;
  • 125 Sniper - classic, knurled handle, adjustable jaw, universal strap, black;
  • 125 CAMO - classic, camouflage color.

Hatsan 125 E

The rifle has a black polymer stock with a gray butt pad made of soft rubber, a classic handle, and a long steel rifled barrel. The trigger has adjusting screws. An automatic safety (in the form of a trigger) serves to block an accidental shot.

The approximate weight of the weapon is 3.65 kg, the length of the entire structure is 124 cm, the barrel length is 50 cm. It fires lead bullets. An adjustable rear sight and Truglo front sight are used for aiming. To install the sight there is a universal rail and a stopper for rings.

Hatsan 125TH

This model is distinguished by the fact that it has a pistol grip connected to the butt. The stock is made of durable black plastic. The buttstock has a rubber (gray) butt plate.

The front sight has fiber optic threads. The rear sight is adjustable in two planes. A universal rail for mounting a sight is installed on the compressor pipe. The trigger guard has holes for hook adjustment. The approximate weight of the rifle is 3.65 kg, the total length is 124 cm.

Hatsan 125 MW

Modification 125MW is a spring-piston model with a typical handle that smoothly flows into the butt. It is loaded by breaking the barrel and fires lead bullets. What makes the Hatsan 125MW different is that it has an unusual wood-like coloring of the plastic case. The butt has a rubber butt pad. At the top of the Hatsan 125MW there is a rear sight with a front sight, as well as a universal rail for mounting optics. The weapon weighs about 3.8 kg, total length - 124 cm.

Hatsan 125 Sniper

The Sniper modification is a spring-piston classic. True, this model has a more comfortable (corrugated) handle. There is a rubber butt pad on the back of the butt. The shooter can independently adjust the trigger. For aiming, the rear sight and Truglo front sight (with fiberglass threads) are used. At the top there is a universal rail for installing any optics. The main feature of the “Sniper” model is the adjustable (retractable) cheek piece. “Hatsan 125” weighs about 4.1 kg (total length - 124 cm).

What is included

As mentioned earlier, the standard equipment of the Hatsan Torpedo 155 does not have a repair kit. However, this does not mean that the arms factory produces a rifle without spare parts or additional documents. In addition to weapons, the box will also contain the following items:

  1. Spare backplate.
  2. Spare spring.
  3. User manual.
  4. Universal key.
  5. Weapons passport.
  6. Warranty card.

Of course, many gun stores are in a hurry to correct the shortcoming with meager equipment by adding this or that product to the set. However, it is important to understand that such actions are nothing more than a marketing ploy in order to sell stale products. Therefore, you should buy this or that kit with caution.

Which optics should you choose?

The basic version of the Hatsan Torpedo 155 has quite strong recoil and requires the installation of durable optical sights.

A wide range of models in the mid-price category are suitable for a rifle, among which are:

  • “Gamo WRV” 4 × 32 mm is a fairly simple sight, not equipped with an illuminated reticle, but withstands sensitive recoil;
  • “Bushnell Sportsman” 3-9 × 32 mm – has variable magnification and is suitable for shooting at close and long distances;
  • “Tasco Golden Antler” 3-9 × 40 mm – is completely sealed and resistant to shock loads, characteristic of magnum class PPP.

Possibilities for increasing power

In general, when it comes to the Torpedo 155, the problem with lack of power is the last thing anyone worries about. In addition, the manufacturer assures that it is not recommended to modify the weapon so that the initial bullet speed exceeds 350 m/s. However, there are several ways to slightly increase muzzle energy:

  1. Installation of a gas cylinder with an increased atmospheric indicator.
  2. Use of additional barrel gaskets.
  3. Lubricate the barrel with high-quality gun oil.

As for pruning, it is not recommended. Yes, this will increase the power of muzzle energy significantly, but it will negatively affect the accuracy of projectiles when firing from long distances. In addition, too much power will sooner or later lead to damage to the case.

Disassembling the air rifle "Hatsan Torpedo 155"

Due to the fact that Turkish weapons do not have a complex design, anyone who has ever tinkered with Russian “aircraft” (MP-512, IZH-72) can disassemble it. For everyone else, there are special instructions:

  1. Make sure the rifle is unloaded.
  2. Unscrew the two bolts on the weapon body.
  3. Unscrew the bolt under the trigger.
  4. Remove the stock with a gentle movement.
  5. We take out the spring or gas cylinder.
  6. Let's disassemble the USM.

If you follow this algorithm of actions exactly and also handle the parts carefully, then no problems with disassembly should arise. Maintenance is best done using a cleaning rod. Assembly is carried out in reverse order.

Disassembling the rifle

The manufacturer does not recommend performing complete or partial disassembly of the model on your own. When disassembling with your own hands, you should:

  1. Unscrew the screws on the rifle stock (on the sides and under the trigger guard). From the side opposite the screw, it is necessary to remove the bushing;
  2. unscrew the bushing behind the receiver and knock out all the pins, except for the outermost one (on the pneumatic chamber);
  3. Carefully remove the trigger mechanism. Its design is very simple, but it can cause trouble during assembly if it falls apart into separate parts;
  4. knock out the remaining pin and remove the spring with the piston.

Important: Do-it-yourself disassembly of a rifle equipped with a powerful spring can lead to injury and requires special plumbing equipment.

Analogues and prices

Despite the fact that the Torpedo 155 rifle costs almost 20,000 rubles, it does not have many analogues that can boast similar performance characteristics. However, there are still several foreign competitors. Here is their brief description:

ModelShort descriptionPrice, rub
Crosman Optimus R8-C01K77XClassic break with an optical sight mounted on a dovetail rail. The initial speed of the bullet fluctuates around 300 m/s. In this case, the muzzle energy power does not exceed 7.5 J. The only drawback of the weapon is high recoil. 16000
Crosman Fury NPMany experts believe that this air rifle is among the top 10 in the entire world. In addition to impressive technical characteristics, the weapon boasts a sound moderator, as well as good ergonomics, which solves the problem with recoil. 15000
Stoeger X50 Wood ComboInitially, this model was developed for sports competitions. However, hunters in the very first days after its release appreciated the advantages of the rifle (performance characteristics, ergonomics, the ability to install a body kit). Among the shortcomings, it is customary to highlight the not very good quality of the wood, which quickly scratches and also dries out in the sun. 22000
