The Hatsan 85 rifle is a spring-mechanical type, 4.5 mm barrel, loaded with a lead bullet by breaking the barrel.

Advantages and disadvantages

A rifle, with all the inherent advantages and disadvantages of a “breakthrough”. The main constructive one is the fracture site itself. The designers of Hatsan 85 did not bother with additional protrusions and grooves, as can be seen in Gamo fractures. The barrel simply fits plane to plane with the compressor bypass hole. Over time, play appears. The more intensive and careless the exploitation, the greater it is. This barrel swing is not very noticeable to the eye, but greatly affects accuracy and accuracy.

Often the process of breaking the barrel itself causes difficulties (especially for inexperienced shooters). Still, the spring on the Hatsan 85 is quite strong, otherwise the rifle would not produce 200 meters per second even in the stock version. When upgrading and replacing with a gas or twisted reinforced one, loading difficulties increase.

It is unclear whether this is a design or manufacturing defect, but there is no muzzle chamfer on the breech of the barrel, which complicates loading.

The rear sight of the rifle is adjustable in height and horizon, the edges of the slot are marked with green fiber-optic thread. The front sight is massive, on a high bracket. It is equipped with a red fiber-optic thread, which makes aiming easier.

The compressor has two longitudinal grooves that form a kind of dovetail strip; if desired, you can install an optical sight. True, it is not advisable to do this before replacing it with a gas spring. The double recoil effect is not as strong as on the “one hundred and twenty-fifths”, but it is present.

The trigger mechanism has an automatic safety lock, the button of which is located on the butt plate of the compressor. The trigger travel is harsh and lacks pre-travel. It can be adjusted, but excessive shortening will result in unauthorized firing.

The buttstock is equipped with a soft butt pad. Its position can be adjusted using the spacers included in the package.

The rifle is heavy, no matter what they say. More than three kilograms is a significant load. So Hatsan 85 is more of a toy for boys of pre-retirement age.

Application area

Design

The barrel is steel, with trapezoidal rifling, 4.5 mm caliber. There is no muzzle chamfer in the chamber.

Lead bullets with a diameter of 4.5 mm are used as ammunition. You can use those that have pyrotechnic effects. Before modernization, it is undesirable to use bullets weighing more than 0.75 grams.

The stock is semi-pistol, made of impact-resistant polymer. Depending on the modification, it can be matte black, with camouflage coloring or imitate wood. The notches on the fore-end and handle are longitudinal, long, infrequent and shallow. On the left side of the butt there is a protrusion for the shooter's cheek. The butt plate is equipped with a polymer shock absorber with adjustable shims.

The trigger mechanism is single-stroke, it is possible to adjust the length of the trigger stroke. The descent is hard. The fuse is automatic, located on the backplate of the compressor.

The sighting devices are equipped with fiber-optic threads - the rear sight is green, the front sight is red. The rear sight is adjustable in height and horizon. On the upper plane of the compressor there are two recesses that form a dovetail strip. The distance between the grooves is 11 mm.

Disassembly

The ability to disassemble the Hatsan 85 rifle can be useful if you want to modernize it, need to clean and lubricate the mechanism or repair it. The process is multi-step, but uncomplicated.

If the rifle is not upgraded, then no additional accessories are required. Otherwise, use a tightening machine.

To disassemble Hatsan mod 85 you need:

1. Unscrew the two screws on both sides of the forend and knock out the shock-absorbing system pin.
2. Remove the two screws securing the trigger guard.
3. Separate the stock from the mechanism.
4. Knock out the first two pins coming from the muzzle on the compressor.
5. Knock out the pin on the trigger mechanism to release the sear.
6. Knock out the pin on the compressor plug and remove the fuse along with the rod.
7. Unscrew the coupling into which the rear screw securing the trigger guard was screwed.
8. Remove the trigger mechanism.
9. Knock out the last pin on the compressor (if the spring is reinforced, then the rear plug of the mechanism must be supported by a tightening machine).
10. Break the barrel so that the spring pushes out the plug (operation for non-upgraded rifles).
11. Remove the spring from the guide and the piston.
12. Knock out the pins on the barrel fracture hinge and disassemble it, separating the barrel (optional).

Which optics to choose

The dovetail strip is 11 mm wide. It is cut directly onto the compressor housing and is not very reliable. If you installed a reinforced coil spring, then you should refuse to install optical sights.

In other cases, use the Pilad P1x20 red dot sight. It is lightweight, small in size and its body is made of aluminum alloy. Its mounting on an actual imitation rail will be quite reliable, and the design will withstand the recoil of medium caliber firearms (20-16).
