Signal revolver MP-313

Home | Links | Useful materials | Signal revolver MP-313

The MR-313 signal revolver is manufactured by the Federal State Unitary Enterprise "Izhevsk Mechanical Plant" by converting it from a Nagan system revolver of the 1895 model. The original markings and handling techniques for the revolver are completely preserved. For shooting, the Zhevelo-M capsule is used. The MP-313 signal revolver is primarily a collectible item, perfect for people interested in weapons and military history.

The MP-313 signal revolver is equipped with a barrel simulator and a rotating drum. The barrel is poorly drilled. Only the rifling has been removed from the bore. The trunk has thick walls. In the breech of the barrel of the MP-313 signal revolver there is a flat divider, which provides enough free space for the flame to pass into the barrel. Thus, the flame goes from the drum into the barrel, and not into the space between the barrel and the drum.

The barrel with the splitter is secured in the frame by welding, and the welding itself is ground. There are no weakening grooves on the frame. The drum of the MP-313 signal revolver has inserts about 1 cm long and 10 mm in diameter for the Zhevelo-M capsule. The inserts are mounted on threads in the chambers of the drum, which are about 2 cm long. Everything else in the drum has not undergone any changes. The original wooden cheeks of the handle are left. However, there are a couple of fairly significant disadvantages.

Historically, the valuable number on the frame is removed by the manufacturer, for reasons known only to him. The numbers of historical and collectible value on the parts of the revolver generally do not match. This concerns the non-matching of the numbers of the revolver and its drum. But still, these disadvantages cannot be compared with the advantages of the MP-313 signal revolver over other signal revolvers converted from Nagan. MP-313 has a minimum of new-made marks, made slightly different in color from bluing, and applied superficially.

On sale there are MP-313s converted from Nagan system revolvers of various years of production. The most valuable are those issued in the Russian Empire, before the revolution, the so-called “imperial”. Such MP-313 are branded “TULA IMPER. PETRA THE GREAT WEAPON R.S.F.S.R. Per. Tul. Or. Head." with the year of manufacture underneath, as well as the USSR issue with the stamp “S.S.S.S.R. PER. WEAPONS MANAGER IN TULA" and the same year of manufacture.

The most common are the MP-313 signal revolvers, converted from Nagant revolvers produced in 1930-1940. These revolvers have different marks: a star with an arrow inside; a circle and inside it a triangle with an arrow; star with a hammer inside. The year of manufacture was indicated under the stamps. The MP-313 signal revolver is currently the most affordable collectible for lovers of short-barreled weapons, small arms in general, military history and military-historical reconstruction living in the Russian Federation.

Nagan MP-313

Published in Weapons on March 30

Dear friends! Any gun lover cannot look at this type of reliable hand-held small arms like a revolver with indifference. I couldn’t look indifferent either.

I started replenishing my collection with the Nagan MP-313 revolver, which is produced by the Federal State Unitary Enterprise IZHEVSK MECHANICAL PLANT. The Nagan MP-313 is a signal revolver that does not require any permission to purchase. And it carries within itself, first of all, historical value, because... created as a result of alteration of the Nagan system revolver, known for its reliability.

A little about its donor - the Nagant system revolver - a revolver developed by the Belgian gunsmiths brothers Emile and Leon Nagant in the 19th century. The Nagant revolver was adopted by the Russian army on May 13, 1895 by decree of Nicholas II. Even today, the revolver is partially used in security structures! In Russia and the USSR, the Nagant revolver was so famous that the word “Nagant” became a common noun. In colloquial speech, a revolver was often called a revolver, and sometimes an automatic pistol.

Characteristics of the Nagant revolver:

  • Weight, kg: 0.795 (without cartridges)
  • 0.880 (curb)
  • Length, mm: 220
  • Barrel length, mm: 115 (number of rifling - 4)
  • Cartridge: 7.62×38 mm Nagant
  • Caliber, mm: 7.62
  • Operating principles: double action trigger mechanism
  • Rate of fire, rounds/min: 7 rounds in 15-20 sec
  • Initial bullet speed, m/s: 272
  • Sighting range, m: 50
  • Maximum range, m: 700
  • Type of ammunition: drum for 7 rounds
  • Sight: rear sight with an aiming slot on the top of the frame, front sight on the front of the barrel.

The MP-313 signal revolver is as close as possible to its donor (the Nagan system combat revolver), the original markings and handling techniques for the revolver are fully preserved.

For shooting, the Zhevelo-M capsule is used, which can also be purchased without special permission in gun stores. The MP-313 can be used as a starting or signal revolver.

And for thrill-seekers, you can play Russian Roulette completely safely.
