Description of the air pistol ASG Schofield 6 Aging BK (bullet)
An interesting pneumatic bullet revolver with a 4.5 mm barrel caliber, manufactured by the Danish company ASG. The model is a replica of the Smith-Wesson III revolver of the 1871 model , thanks to which it will definitely be of interest to all collectors and lovers of antique weapons.
The body and frame of this model are entirely made of metal alloy, the outer parts of which are aged, which gives the product an authentic appearance. The length of the ASG Schofield 6 Aging BK pneumatic revolver is 320 mm, and its weight is 1035 grams .
Shooting from this product is carried out, as already mentioned, with lead bullets, which are pre-inserted into special cartridges. I would like to note that the cartridges are made in the form of live cartridges and are loaded into the revolver drum in the same way, which significantly increases the realism of the model.
An important feature of the product is that, like its firearm counterpart, its frame folds down, which simplifies the process of loading dummy cartridges into the drum. The drum capacity of the model, by the way, is 6.
Bullets fly out of the barrel of a revolver due to the pressure on them of carbon dioxide, which is stored in a standard 12 gram canister. It should be noted that the declared speed of the bullet leaving the model’s barrel is 131 m/s , which is significantly higher than that of its analogues.
The barrel length is 150 mm, and there are rifling inside it that allows the shooter to achieve maximum accuracy when shooting from a revolver. The model's fuse is located on the back of the product, behind the trigger.
The sighting devices of the ASG Schofield 6 Aging BK pneumatic revolver are the classic front and rear sights.
Wild West Weapons: Smith & Wesson Model 3 Schofield
We continue to talk about weapons that can be found in the game Red Dead Redemption 2
In 1870, the American company Smith & Wesson introduced its first large-caliber revolver, aimed primarily at military use - Model No. 3. It was a massive revolver with a “breaking” design, which made it possible to throw out all six spent cartridges at once after opening and “breaking” the frame. Its design also included a non-self-cocking trigger mechanism, and its dimensions and strength allowed it to use fairly powerful 0.44-inch cartridges. The first major buyer of the “third model” was the Russian Empire, which in 1871 adopted the Smith-Wesson revolver chambered for 4.2 line caliber (10.6mm), also known in American nomenclature as .44 Russian. Well, a little later, the American military, or rather the US cavalry, also became interested in this revolver. In 1873, the Colt M1873 revolver was adopted by the cavalry, but the third model Smith-Wesson had an advantage over it in reloading speed, although it was somewhat inferior in strength and power. Therefore, Colonel George Schofield, in collaboration with the manufacturer, set about modifying the third model for the needs of the cavalry. The main improvement was a change in the design of the frame latch, which moved to the frame. According to military requirements, the revolver was converted to a new 0.45-inch caliber cartridge, which could also be used in Colt revolvers. The reverse was not possible - the .45 caliber cartridge for the M1873 revolvers, known as the .45 Colt, was too long and had insufficient rim size to function reliably in a Smith & Wesson revolver. In 1875, the US Cavalry ordered the first 3 thousand revolvers, named after Colonel Smith & Wesson Model 3 Schofield. In 1877, the military purchased another 5,000 Smith and Wessons, which was about half the volume of purchases of Model 1873 Colts. However, Smith & Wesson had no reason to be sad, since the Russian order for Model 3 revolvers more than exceeded all American ones.
Scofield revolvers were actively used in wars with Indians in the western United States, as well as in various local fights between bandits, other bandits and those who in the Wild West could be considered ordinary citizens or servants of the law.
In terms of design, the Smith & Wesson Model 3 Schofield revolver was a classic design with a hinge in the front lower part of the frame and a latch in the upper rear, in front of the trigger. To reload, the shooter must pull the latch back, after which, by pressing the barrel, the frame “breaks”, tilting the drum with the breech up. At the end of the “turning” movement, an automatic extractor throws out the spent cartridges from the chambers, after which new cartridges can be inserted in their place and then the drum and barrel can be returned to their original position. The trigger mechanism was not self-cocking and allowed firing only with pre-cocking of the hammer. Military models of revolvers had barrels 7 inches (178 mm) long, commercial and police versions could be equipped with barrels 5 inches long or even shorter.
The .45 Smith & Wesson cartridge (11.5x28R) used in army revolvers was loaded with a lead bullet weighing 15 grams with an initial speed of 220 m/s, which gave a muzzle energy of about 360 Joules.
