Air pistol MP-654K

The PM combat pistol was designed by the Soviet scientist Nikolai Fedorovich Makarov. It combined the best characteristics of other types of domestic and captured weapons, and in 1951 it replaced the popular “TT”, becoming a standard weapon for the command of the armed forces. The Makarov pistol has a curly shape, excellent shooting quality, including at close range, and increased safety when worn.

Pneumatic analogues of PMs copy the appearance, as well as certain characteristics of military analogues, and differ in price, quality, and method of shooting. We’ll figure out how to choose a Makarov air pistol and help you choose the best model just for you.

Let's consider models with good technical data from three top manufacturers - the American company Gletcher, the German brand Umarex and the Russian Baikal. All of them:

  • smoothbore;
  • operate in single fire mode;
  • 12 g CO2 cartridges are used as energy;
  • they shoot steel balls;
  • have a muzzle energy not exceeding 3 J;
  • have a caliber of 4.5 mm;
  • Made of ABS plastic combined with metal alloy.

This weapon is intended for recreational and training shooting.

Varieties of the MP-654k pistol

In one of the conversations with another expert, we talked about the markings of different versions of the most famous air pistol in Russia.
And I decided to make something like a reference book.

Let's start by deciphering the name and serial number:

MR - M echanical P lant ( Mechanical plant. Rods )

6 — Air pistols (group of weapons)

5 — Gas-cylinder pneumatics

4 — Model number in this group

K - store modification

Example serial number: Т12345678

T-*first pair of digits* - Year of manufacture

*second pair of numbers* - For pistols of later series - Model, series.

For pistols of early series - up to the 28th, inclusive, the second pair of digits indicates the month of production, respectively, can have values from 01 to 12

*other numbers* — Individual serial number

MP-654k (1997-1999)

In 1997, production of this pistol began. The markings on the bolt were then located slightly differently, but the main difference was in the valve system, as well as the barrel nut.

The valve body itself was rougher than the modern version. Based on this, the rest of the valve parts were slightly different.

In the photo and drawings above, the old-style valve block is on the left, and the new one is on the right.

At that time, there were some very exclusive specimens.

A model from the first hundred, the store is not at all similar to the one everyone knows now.

Fine, PMM-ovsky notch.

Throughout its production and almost to this day, bolts have varied from pistol to pistol.

There are three options:

The “bearded man” - the front of the bolt like a combat pistol - is beveled - is now practically never seen. Beveled bolts also had differences in the rear parts of the bolt. There could be the usual figured treatment, but there were also sloping ones, in the likeness of the PMM-ovsky ones. Beardless is the most common version.

MR-654k-03 (late 1999-2010)

The most famous and widespread pistol. It was produced without major changes for a very long time.

MR-654k-11 (. -2010)

Camouflage. Not the most popular and widespread model. Many people find it funny to “dress” old PM in camouflage.

MR-654k-15 (. -2010)

Pistol with a false silencer. This model had a barrel bore with internal threads, the muffler was simply a dummy - a tube with two walls.

MP-654k-?? (. -2010)

Nickel plated version. Rumor has it that the quality of these pistols was higher than the stock black 654s.

MP-654k-?? (. -. G)

Two-tone, black frame, nickel-plated slide and controls. Very rare model. I didn't have a chance to see her live. When its production began and whether it is still underway is unknown.

MP-654k-?? (. -. G)

Premium models. These pistols had a noticeably higher price, were decorated with handles made of good wood, sometimes gilded.

MR-654k-(02, . ) (. - . g)

Gift models. Richly decorated with various engravings and gilding. Sometimes decorations with the Russian flag or coat of arms were installed on the plastic handle, but more often the handle was made of noble wood.

The prices for such toys are simply exorbitant, but the quality is also above all praise. The parts fit precisely, the coating does not wear out or scratch, the barrel, unlike simple 654s, is smooth, which improves the characteristics of the pistol.

Such models were often made to order, so there are a lot of variations.

MR-654k-20 (2011-early 2012)

Since 2011, some changes have been made to the design of pistols. The main and most noticeable change is the brown plastic handle with a star. Many people mistakenly believe that this handle is identical to those found on combat and traumatic pistols, but this is not the case; the main difference is the absence of a swivel on the lower left.

Also, for the 2011 model, some changes were made to the valve and the barrel was bored at 8-9mm to a depth of 5 to 15mm.

MR-654k-22 (2011)

Similar to the 15th model, this pistol differs from the stock one only in the presence of threads in the barrel and a dummy muffler.

MR-654k-23 (2011)

The model is no different from the Model 11, except for the updated handle.

MR-654k-24 (2011)

Again, this model differs from the old version only in the handle.

MR-654k-28 (autumn 2012 - late summer 2013)

According to rumors, the IzhMekh plant has significantly reduced the number of 654s produced, but due to this the quality has increased somewhat, for example, they began to install blown bolt stops, which at least slightly increased the similarity with the combat pistol of early samples, and also simplified the process of bringing the external type to a copy of the PM. The pistols also began to be equipped with hidden clamping screws, and the ball feeder spring became a little stiffer.

MP-654k-32 (autumn 2012) 500th series

But Izhmekh supplies these 654s to the Ukrainian brothers. Bakelite handle, curly brace, narrow frame and magazine, no notches on the front of the handle, correct bolts (beard, chamfer, extractor cutout, etc.), chiseled triggers, wide rear sight, barrel bore looks neater.

The "H" mark in the serial number indicates that this is an export version. It is also characterized by the fact that the serial number begins with five hundred, i.e. 500, 501, 502, etc.

However, something horrified me.

The frame at the base of the handle is not closed by a plate and the grip force determines the ease of removing the magazine.

There is also no usual mainspring lock. In this version, the spring is fixed with a screw.

MP-654k-32 (December 2012) 300th series

The pistol is practically no different from the export version, however, the letter “H” is missing, which indicates that the batch is definitely for the domestic market.

The series has already been called the three hundredth, since the serial number starts with three hundred.

One of the differences from the export 654 is the presence of sandblasting on the top of the slide, which was previously done only on the 654 frame.

Also on the 300s we immediately noticed a blown bolt stop and a hidden screw.

At the moment (late summer/early fall 2013), the last batch of 300s arrived with handles of noticeably lower quality processing.

The material is pale, rough, and bears little resemblance to the original PM bakelite handles. Apparently, IzhMekh decided to save money on this and simplified the production process.

Traumatic

The use of military weapons is prohibited in Russia. However, some other types are allowed for self-defense. Thus, the PM traumatic pistol is one of the most popular models on Russian shelves. He has good indicators that make him choose him. The distinctive side is that the PM-T (this is the name of the leading traumatic pistol PM) is created from old Makarovs, this, undoubtedly, is a huge plus. For obvious reasons, the pistol also adopted all the shortcomings of the PM.

Most owners complain about the difficulty of reloading weapons. This is, of course, true, but there are also advantages. The rigid latch means you don't have to worry about the magazine falling out. This cannot be said about other models of traumatic PMs, which use an easily pressed button instead of a classic latch. If we start from the fact that the PM-T is created from a combat pistol, then the question arises: what cartridges should be used?

The Makarov pistol, designed for more powerful weapons, may become unusable when using traumatic cartridges, since reloading is likely to be unavailable or difficult. Therefore, most often in PM the return spring is simply replaced. After this, you can use standard sports, training and even Turkish SMERSH cartridges. In this way, the pros and cons can be identified. The first include the excellent quality and unpretentiousness of the pistol. The second includes the slight difficulty with cartridges described above. And you have to get used to the difficult reloading. However, there is also a pneumatic pistol “Makarov”; there are a large number of PM-shaped types.

Features of the Makarov air pistol

The Makarov air pistol is a metal pistol. To fire a shot, the energy of compressed carbon dioxide is used. The store, as a rule, is combined, which houses a CO2 cartridge, as well as ammunition. Copper-plated steel balls or lead shot are used as ammunition. It is not advisable to use it, since due to the characteristics of lead, bullets can become jammed in the magazine, causing sticking and requiring disassembly of the model in order to correct the situation.

The Baikal MP 654k air pistol requires strict adherence to safety regulations.

Pneumatic

On the shelves you can find not only traumatic weapons. The Makarov (PM) pneumatic pistol is also quite popular. But it's not that simple. If PM-T is the leader among traumatic ones, then among pneumatic ones it is impossible to identify a clear leader.

IZhmekh Baikal MR-654K is made on the basis of IZH-71, which belongs to the PM-shaped. It is durable and reliable, its characteristics and appearance are as close as possible to a combat pistol. This is what distinguishes it from other models. Shooting can be carried out both with cocking and self-cocking, just like the original.

It is precisely for its similarity to a combat pistol that this air pistol (PM) became popular in Russia. It’s interesting that thanks to this quality, you can use it to practice how to handle a real PM. The model has the tightest trigger, which cannot be considered a disadvantage or advantage, since this guarantees the absence of an accidental shot and at the same time interferes with firing. The bullet's flight speed is also encouraging; initially it is about 115 m/s. Despite some shortcomings that can be eliminated or gotten used to, IZhmekh Baikal MR-654K is the best pneumatic PM in Russia.

Makarov 654 K - history of model development

From 1997 to 1999 , the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant produced the MP 654 K with a wide handle and black linings. The pneumatic PM was a copy of the IZH-71-100. Unlike modern analogues, it had many shortcomings that had to be eliminated after operation. One of the main disadvantages was the low quality of the valve.

In 1999 , production of the MP-654K-02 began in Russia with improved technical characteristics and corrected shortcomings. A gift modification of the pneumatic gun has appeared, complete with a carrying case. Patterns and engraving are applied to steel weapons. During production, the customer’s wishes were taken into account; gold, precious metals and stones could be used to cover the metal. Take into account the fact that the more expensive the materials were used, the higher the price of the weapon became.

From 1999 to 2010 , MP-654-K-03 began to fall into the hands of consumers. A classic version that has not changed for more than 10 years. Manufacturers restrained themselves; the only changes were made to the bolt and the slot for the cartridge ejector simulator. Pneumatic pistols with beards and beards with a bevel appeared; PMs with and without a slot for the extractor went on sale.

Until 2010 , the MP-654-K-11 was produced with a camouflage coating and a wide handle without a star.

Until 2010 , the production of MP-654K-15 was carried out, the delivery package of which included false silencers. They had a wide plastic handle and a clamping screw with a swivel.

From 2011 to the present time, MP-654-K-23 with camouflage coating has been on sale. Unlike the 11 series, it is equipped with a hidden clamping screw and has a modernized plastic handle with a star.

Since 2011 , in series 15, the handle was modernized and serial production of the MP-654K-22 began.

Around the same time, the pneumatic PM MP-654K with a nickel-plated coating was produced; it is classified as MP-654K-02. It was modernized and equipped with a narrow handle with a star, a hidden priming screw. Since 2011, the improved PM has been called MP-654-K-24.

The 654K in two-tone design deserves some of the attention. The cost of exotic modifications is higher, which many associate with the higher quality of parts used in the production of pneumatics. Seeing this miracle is very rare these days.

Production of both continues to this day.

Baikal has launched the production of premium MP-654-K. Toy production continues to this day. Elegant, each with its own flair and not at the lowest price.

Between 2011 and 2012 , consumers bought MP-654K-20. The standard version of the pneumatic PM of the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant, the handle is wide, ribbed, plastic cheeks without a swivel for a safety belt, there is a star. There is no beard, a clamping screw with a swivel. With this modification, we began boring the depth of the barrel under the combat weapon with a depth of 0.5 to 1.5 cm.

In the fall of 2012 , the 20th series was slightly corrected, everyone could buy the MP-654K-28. The handle is modernized and equipped with a hidden clamping screw. The feeder spring has become more elastic and reliable, the delay has become inflated.

Since October 2012 , production of the MP-654K-32-N began, which became as similar as possible to its firearms counterpart. The 500 modification is an export version, sold mainly to Ukraine. It has the greatest value due to its bearded bolt, textolite cheeks, narrow handle without ribs and other features. I would like to note that the delay of the pneumatic valve should not be inflated, and the clamping screw should not be hidden.

Since December 2012 , MP-654K-32 (300 series) appeared, which is very rare nowadays. Almost completely identical to the combat PM, unlike the 500 series, the delay of the weapon is inflated, the clamping screw is hidden. You can write a whole article about the features of the product, so we will move on. The letter H is absent in the individual number.

Since September 2013 , the 38th series of MP-654-K began to be produced. The only difference from modification 32 is the plastic handle, which the manufacturer decided to replace with textolite. The changes were due to the deteriorating quality of the bakelite cheeks and problems in their processing. The swivel on the handle was retained.

The online store Rezon.by has MP-654-K PMM in stock, onto which Baikal installs faceted valves. In addition, the PMM has a beard. Available parts for modernization, wooden, textolite cheeks, false silencers with barrels and more.

In fact, there are many more modifications of PM Baikal pistols. Pneumatics are constantly changing, because their production uses parts from firearms, traumatic and gas pistols, and all batches cannot be the same. It is very difficult to understand the MP-654-K series, and is there a need for this for the average consumer? Let everyone decide for themselves, and if you have certain comments, leave them in the comments and we will supplement the article with relevant information.

Fuse

Many design innovations were used in the PM. The fuse is one of them; it is located to the left of the bolt-casing and is a lever; in the on position it blocks the sear. The peculiarity is that the trigger does not touch the firing pin. This is definitely a plus. The fuse itself, used on the PM, unlike the weapon itself, is completely original, created by Makarov himself. If most of the pistol is designed based on the Walther, then the device is new. The most important difference is that with German weapons the safety lever must be moved upward, while with PMs the movement is natural, performed with the thumb. Thanks to this, the firing rate is quite high.

The sight mounted on the PM combat pistol and other types consists of a fixed front sight and rear sight, which is fixed to a groove. The latter is a classic dovetail, used on a large number of small arms. It is also possible to make lateral adjustments, which, of course, is a plus for the pistol. And the latch is located on the bottom of the magazine, this is also quite convenient, since the latter can be easily changed with the other hand. The Makarov pistol (PM) itself consists of only 32 parts, which ensures quick assembly and disassembly of the weapon, and therefore, cleaning.

[edit] Interesting facts

At the Arms & Hunting exhibition at the end of 2012 in Moscow, an interesting sample of the MP-654k was demonstrated. Firstly, the pistol is designed for airsoft caliber - 6mm. Secondly, the loading of the cylinder and bullets is now separate, and the handle can be removed without unscrewing the fixing screw. The appearance of the pistol is also different from the original.

The MP-654k pistol was seen in many Russian TV series and films as the main weapon of characters, be they police officers or bandits. And quite often, the store forgot to unscrew the screw that tightens the cylinder.

Model features:

This is a pneumatic analogue of the Makarov pistol with a working part made of weapon steel, a bakelite handle and a curly brace. The barrel is rifled, the pusher system is gas-cylinder, the tension screw is hidden. Disassembly is the same as for the combat counterpart. pneumatic pistol (PM, Makarova) shoots explosive balls (caliber 4.5 mm). When assembled, its weight does not exceed 730 g.

The presented air pistol MP-654K-32 is an ideal copy of the Makarov firearm. The characteristics of the model are almost the same as the previously released version MP-654K. Its advantages are high quality of individual parts, reliability of assembly, durability, and ease of use.

The 32 series of pistols, the so-called 300 series, is equipped with a bakelite (black from 2022) grip and a figured trigger guard from the same military older brother. The MP-654K-32 pistol has a hidden tension screw, which makes this pistol practically indistinguishable from its combat counterpart. The appearance of the presented pistol greatly simplifies tuning and improvement of the device, which has no rules and boundaries.

Purchasing this pistol will allow you to learn basic skills in handling weapons. Disassembly (incomplete/complete) is no different from that on the combat counterpart. A clear difference between the pistol is its trouble-free operation and durability, since the main material of the product is weapon-grade steel. MP-654K-32 is an unsurpassed gift for a man of any age and lifestyle.

The pneumatic analogue of the legendary Makarov MP-654K-32 is a pistol with a gas pusher system. Weapon-grade steel, which is the main material for parts when creating the model, makes the weight of the pneumatic indistinguishable from the weight indicators of a real “PM” . This model will be an excellent option for acquiring the skill of shooting at moving and non-moving targets. The technical indicators and characteristics of this model have earned the trust of not only beginners, but also professional weapons experts.

The most important advantages of the MP-654K-32 can easily be attributed to the ideal quality of individual parts and assemblies, the most reliable almost jewelry assembly, resistance to impacts and, of course, the long-known practical design.

In addition to all of the above, all pistols of the 300 series, like the combat model, are equipped with a bakelite handle and a figured trigger guard. The weight of the assembled pistol is no more than 730 g. The energy source for firing a shot is a cylinder filled with compressed carbon dioxide.

Pneumatic pistol Makarov MP 654 K - weapon modifications

First, you need to figure out what the identification markings on the body of the weapon mean.

MR - Mechanical Plant.

6 — weapons group (pistol).

5 — weapon type (gas-cylinder pneumatics).

4 - model number.

K is a magazine modification of an air pistol.

Each pneumatic PM Baikal has its personal number, consisting of one (two) letters and several numbers, for example T14011697, where:

T14 is the year of production of the pistol (there may be an H at the end of the number, which means that the series of pneumatics is intended for export).

01 - month of production (for PM up to series 28 it can be from 01 to 12, for later series it means model).

1697 - serial number, each pistol has its own.

Pneumatics differ in types of valves. There are 3 options:

1. Simple.2. Similar to IZH-79 (beard with bevel).3. Similar to the combat (“bearded” PM).

T-*first pair of digits* - Year of manufacture

Two options

For the pistol design competition, you had to come up with a really good idea. Makarov, the designer of the pistol of the same name, initially created two samples (variants). One of them involved the use of the 7.65 mm Browning cartridge. This made it possible to minimize weight and size. The second option was to use a domestic and more powerful 9x18. And the choice fell on him. Today there is a PM air pistol, created much later on the basis of a combat one. Many companies related to pneumatics have included it in their production. There is also a PM traumatic pistol; more details about them are written below.
