Cooled PM what does this mean? This means pistols that have been written off due to wear or defects and are intended to fire only with blank cartridges. As a result, the buyer receives an interesting example of a military weapon, which, unlike a model, can not only be assembled and disassembled, but also fired.
Keep such products out of the reach of children and treat them like weapons!
Is it worth taking a cold PM? If you are a collector or just a gun lover, then of course it’s worth it! And yes, it's better to buy a new one. There are various types of cooled PM, we will look at the most interesting PM r-411 and PM SO.
Comparison of the cooled Makarov pistol PM R-411 and PM-SO
The PM R-411 is produced by IZHMASH on the basis of combat pistols that were stored in the warehouses of the Ministry of Defense and therefore have lost their service life. To simulate a shot in the P411, a 10TK light-noise cartridge produced by Tekhkrim CJSC is used.
The picture shows the P-411 with a technical passport.
The characteristics of the ammunition are summarized in Table 1.
Table 1 – Characteristics of the 10TK cartridge
Cartridge caliber 10TK, mm | 10 |
Blank cartridge length, mm | 24 |
Diameter, mm | 9,8 |
Place of production, country | Russia |
Number of cartridges per package, pcs. | 20 |
10TK does not contain a damaging element. It must produce a light and noise effect when fired from a pistol. Modification of the 10TK by introducing a destructive element into the cartridge is illegal! In addition, firing such a cartridge can cause injury to the shooter.
The figure below shows an image of 10TK cartridges produced by Tekhkrim
To comply with PM R-411 legal requirements, the following changes were made to the design:
- a plug is installed at a distance of 5 mm from the muzzle, as a result of which it is physically impossible to fire a shot from a pistol with a solid striking element;
- The barrel on the breech side is narrowed by a sleeve secured with a permanently hardened pin in order to form a shorter chamber.
- the barrel is also secured with a pin to eliminate the possibility of conversion from cold to combat;
- a special groove is made in the frame of the gun, into which an additional lock is installed. As a result, installing a bolt from a combat pistol on the P411 is impossible.
- the number of the military weapon was ground off the bolt, otherwise it remained unchanged;
- the magazine holds 7 rounds;
- the mainspring is left the same;
- the R-411 barrel still has rifling.
Technical characteristics of R-411 are given in Table 2.

The R-411 differs from the combat pistol only in the presence of a plug in the barrel. This is a powerful argument for collectors.
The PM SO, like the R-411, is a blank mock-up of the Makarov Pistol. But at the same time it is 1/3 cheaper than its analogue. This difference is due to the fact that the R-411 is made on the basis of combat pistols, and the PM SO is made on the basis of firearms of limited destruction or simply traumatic pistols.
The figure shows the PM SO delivery box
Structurally, donors for LLCs were created on the basis of PMs produced in the 90s. What influenced the simplification of the technological process of pistol production, for example, the frame and bolt are not milled from solid blanks, but are produced by casting and after grinding. In addition, trigger parts are also cast, for example, the trigger, the trigger. This collectively reduced the cost of the pistol, but at the same time the service life also decreased.
During the manufacture of PS SM, the following changes were made to the pistol design:
- A sleeve with a cut is put on the barrel when heated, through which a pin enters the barrel at a distance of 4 mm from the muzzle. This was done to exclude the possibility of a shot with a hard striking element.
- The bolt and barrel are made as a single piece and cannot be disassembled.
- There is a pin installed in the PM SO bolt that prevents installation on combat or traumatic pistols.
- Its strength is specially reduced by a cut in the lower part, the so-called beard. Which, when trying to convert a pistol into a combat pistol, will lead to the destruction of the part when fired.
Since traumatic pistols were used to manufacture the PM SO, it does not bear traces of use, which is typical for the P-411, which, as a rule, was used in combat units and has abrasions on the bluing. Which may be the decisive reason for purchasing it for the collection.
For shots, the same 10 TK cartridge is used as in the R-411. The magazine is single-row, box-shaped, with 7 rounds; when used up, the pistol locks into a slide stop, similar to the combat model.
The characteristics of PM RM are summarized in Table 3.

I present to your attention my faithful friend - the Makarov MP 654K 32 series air pistol. I've been friends with the device for three years now and I really like it. The pistol is made entirely of weapon steel, has a bakelite handle, and a groove for the ejector. All components and mechanisms are identical to the combat prototype. What I like about pneumatics is the huge potential for tuning. The bolt is movable, the bolt stop works as expected, the trigger guard bends like a firearm. The process of disassembling the pistol itself is similar to its combat prototype, which allows you to acquire initial skills in handling weapons.
Many argue that the fewer moving parts in an air gun, the more reliable and durable it is... In this case, I do not agree with such statements. There is no play, rattling, etc. in my pistol. The declared initial speed of the ball is 120 m/s, but this is not the limit (as I said earlier, you can tune MP 654) and there are many ways to increase it. In the factory configuration, the Makarov MP-654K 32 pistol comes with a rifled bore, which does not have the best effect on shooting.
Accuracy when shooting is initially quite good, but after shooting the sixth cylinder it improves significantly. The PM Baikal air pistol fires both self-cocking and with pre-cocking of the hammer and jerking of the bolt. The pistol's magazine is removed identically to the combat one and holds 13 explosive balls.
From shooting practice, I will say that when shooting the first two cylinders at glass bottles from eight meters, the neck of the bottle flew off with a bang, and in the bottle itself, when hit, a neat hole was formed. There was a case of a ball flying right through a bottle (but this is true from about five meters and from a Makarov 32 series pistol, shown in the photo), and once I “removed” a sparrow sitting on a power line from it (I didn’t think I’d hit it... it was a pity ...).
The only nuance in the PM air pistol that I don’t really like is the rather heavy release of the hook when self-cocking, although I’m already used to it. During the time I used the gun, I changed the valve gasket in the head and the gasket under the cylinder once. Before that, I had a Borner PM49, but I was not impressed with it because it is made of powder material, which requires careful handling of the product. It is also inconvenient to insert a gas canister; over time, the plastic cover on the handle wore out and did not lock in place at all.
The PM49 has a problem - it is the clamping nut that secures the gasket under CO2. It is very fragile and inconvenient to manufacture. This is why I chose the MP654K, and the 32 series seems to me the most attractive. By the way, I compared it with a combat PM. So, if in the MP-654K-32 you replace the barrel nut with a round one, insert an ejector simulator, modernize the magazine (in particular the magazine heel), remove the matte coating by bluing and place it next to the firearm PM - you will not be able to tell which is which. Well, that’s probably all there is to it. Thank you for your attention! I hope to win.

Which pistol to choose PM P-411 or PM SO
Advantages of PM R-411:
- produced on the basis of a combat pistol;
- the necessary markings identical to the combat markings have been applied;
- appearance is identical to the combat one;
- there may be abrasions on the bluing due to use in the Armed Forces;
- donors were made in the 50-70s;
- high reliability;
- large resource of use;
- Made with high quality.
Minuses:
- price.
Advantages of PM SO:
- the price tag is significantly lower than that of competitors;
- TK10 cartridge is used;
- good bluing, with a red tint, which is valuable for collectors.
Minuses:
- differs in appearance from the combat version - there is a hole in the bolt;
- the shutter is weakened, which reduces the resource;
- structural differences from a combat pistol when disassembled - the barrel and bolt are made of a single element.
- made on the basis of OOOP (traumatic pistols) - as a result, of less quality.
- Donors were produced in the second half of the 90s.
We can conclude that for a collector, or in the form of a gift from which it is expected to shoot often, the best watered-down PM is the P-411 as it is well-made, reliable and outwardly matches its older brother.
It makes sense to buy a PM SO if you don’t have enough finances and you don’t plan to actively use the gun.
Review of the Makarov MP 654K-28 air pistol
Price: 4850 rubles Summer is the best period for gatherings in nature.
What do tough men do in between eating kebabs and drinking alcohol? Usually they play something like football or volleyball. But not our company. She (at my suggestion, of course) shoots cans and bottles with an air pistol. I decided to buy an air pistol just before this summer for a pleasant pastime. The fact is that I already had an air pistol. It was a certain Anix A-101, which I bought ten years ago. It served faithfully for three years and then suddenly broke down. It's still collecting dust on the closet. And there is no way to repair it, since these pistols are no longer produced. But, remembering how fun it was to shoot, I decided to buy something as a replacement. And the choice fell on the Makarov air pistol, since its reliability was legendary. And no wonder, because, firstly, it is made of steel, unlike Anix, which is made of silumin. And, secondly, the Makarov air pistol is assembled at the Izhevsk plant, where real PMs are created from almost the same parts.
Next, it’s time to decide on the model. There are a great many models of the Makarov air pistol and they mainly differ from each other in one way or another similarity to the combat original. For example, the presence of a beard, a bakelite handle instead of a plastic one, the type of clamping screw, the presence of a slot on the ejector hole, and so on. I settled on the MP 654K-28 model. This is not the newest model, but not the oldest either. It looks nice and is not very expensive. By the way, regarding the cost. In sports stores in my city, the MP 654K-28 costs about 8,000 rubles, so I decided to look for this model in online stores. But it turned out that the cost of air pistols in them can vary greatly. So, the price for the MP 654K-28, in the online store, which is one of the first to show up on Google (I won’t name it, so as not to create anti-advertising for it), differs from the one at which I ultimately bought it by almost one and a half thousand rubles upwards. Fifteen thousand rubles, Karl! Plus, they also offer the only delivery option - with the help of a transport company, which would cost another thousand rubles. I was upset, but then, quite by accident, I came across a wonderful online pneumatic store, rnr21.ru, where the price is divine and inexpensive delivery is available via Russian Post. That's where I bought it. Plus I took a few consumables (10 CO2 cylinders and a bottle with 1500 balls) and all this cost me exactly 5900 rubles.
The parcel arrived quite quickly. The pistol was sent on May 31st, and I received it on June 9th. The packaging is as follows.
To be honest, after looking at various photos and videos, I was waiting for a white box with inscriptions. Well, that’s not the point, the main thing here is the content.
Inside, in oiled paper, lies the pistol itself. It was wrapped more beautifully - I had already unwrapped it.
In short, at first glance you can see that this is a very serious thing. Let's unwrap the handsome guy.
In addition to the pistol, there is a multifunctional tool in the photo, which can, for example, be used to turn the clamping screw or adjust the rear sight.
The kit also includes instructions and a set of additional gaskets.
As a nice bonus, the sellers included a credit card knife with the gun, which itself costs at least 300 rubles. Very cool. But we’re not talking about him here, so I’ll hide his photos under a spoiler.
Credit card knife - photos
As I already said, I took a dozen CO2 cylinders and a bottle of balls for the pistol (I’ll tell you about them separately). It turned out to be such an idyll.
Handsome MP 654K-28 in splendid isolation - photo from both sides.
And this is what the MP 654K-28 clip looks like with an inserted cylinder and loaded balls. I was especially pleased that the clip was also made of steel, whereas Anix’s was completely plastic.
The MP 654K-28 can be disassembled in the same way as a Makarov combat pistol. It’s quite difficult to describe in words how this is done, but the Internet is full of videos of this process. Look - there is nothing complicated about it. I was very pleased that the guys from the online store picked me a very good copy. Disassembly and assembly is easy - nothing sticks or wobbles.
Well, it's time to move on to combat tests. The first shooting of the pistol was carried out in the apartment. I used an empty beer can as a target.
After a couple of shots, it became clear that the bullet was going to the left (the left side of the can was photographed - I shot at the large letter G in the form of a coat of arms). Well, it's not scary. I adjusted the rear sight and took the pistol out into the countryside to test it on more serious targets.
What can I say? The ball pierces a beer bottle about five meters through, making two neat holes.
If you get somewhere nearby again, one of three situations arises. A huge hole forms in the bottle.
Or the neck falls off completely. Or both
The gas in the cylinder is enough for approximately 70 shots. With a couple of cylinders you are guaranteed to shoot. We took turns shooting from one for an hour and a half and destroyed all the bottles at a distance of hundreds of meters. Since we naturally cleaned up the fragments after ourselves and took them to the trash, it turns out that we combined business with pleasure - we shot and cleared the forest of debris.
In short, I am completely and completely satisfied with the pistol. And since then, not a single gathering in nature (and there have already been a couple) has been complete without it.
PS The cat is terribly afraid of a gun. No, if you just put it next to it, then everything is fine.
Air gun and cat
But as soon as you start clanking the pistol (reloading, pulling the trigger, taking out the clip), the cat gets wildly scared and immediately runs away. Apparently animals have a fear of weapons somewhere in the subconscious
Ammo for cold weapons
Ammunition can be divided into two groups:
The first is cartridges that are sold freely;
The second is cartridges for adult citizens of the Russian Federation if they have a license to store and carry rifled hunting weapons.
The first group of ammunition includes:
- 10TK;
- 10x31;
- 10x24.
The picture below shows 10x31 cartridges produced by Tekhkrim
The picture below shows 10x24 cartridges
10TK and 10x31 are produced by Tekhkrim CJSC, 10x24 "Fortuna". 10TK and 10x24 are suitable in size for PM and 9x19 Luger ammunition. Which makes them suitable for equipping pistols of the corresponding calibers. 10x31 is used in cooled weapons that previously used 7.62x25 caliber shells.
Light-noise ammunition 10TK and 10x31 are produced by cutting a 5.45x39 AK cartridge case using an asterisk twist. 10x24 is rolled and equipped with a plastic plug, which, when fired, breaks into 4 elements.
The second group of cartridges is represented by the following types:
- 9mm. Luger;
- 5.45x39;
- 7.62x39;
- 7.62x54.
This ammunition is sold strictly with a license to store and carry firearms. And they are used in long-barreled, cooled pneumatics.
