Pneumatic pistol BORNER PM49, cal. 4.5 mm GNBB (8.4949)

History of the pistol

The USSR began creating a new type of pistol after World War II. In 1947-1948, a competition was announced for the design of a pistol with a self-cocking trigger and a blowback bolt, the prototype of which was the German Walther PP, produced since 1929. Leading Soviet design engineers submitted applications for the competition: Tokarev, Rakov, Sevryugin, Klimov, Lobanov, Voevodin, Korovin, Baryshov, Stechkin, Simonov and Makarov. Based on the tests carried out on the complex of demonstrated technical characteristics, the application of Nikolai Fedorovich Makarov won.

Makarov N.F. modified the “Walter” device in the following areas:

  • simplified the design and, consequently, the rules for handling weapons and the procedure for their maintenance;
  • made a number of parts multifunctional;
  • increased reliability of operation in non-standard conditions;
  • increased the strength of parts and the service life of the product;
  • simplified manufacturability and increased the rate of weapons production.

However, it was decided to make a number of amendments to improve the design, and starting in 1951, the Makarov pistol (PM) was put into production and armament for law enforcement agencies and military units. The most important changes made to the original design were the newly developed 9x18 mm PM projectile with improved characteristics (bullet energy began to reach 300 J). Purpose of PM-49: protection against attack at short distances. Accuracy of fire: at a distance of 50 meters the circle is 320 mm, and at 20 meters - 130 mm. The projectile design, improved in 1948, is a 9 mm bullet with a steel core coated with a layer of lead.

Description of the air pistol Borner PM49 (8.4949):

This is a stylish copy of the famous Makarov pistol from the American company Borner. The Borner PM49 air pistol is equipped with a double mechanism: self-cocking or manual pre-cocking of the trigger is possible. The Borner PM49 trigger has two strokes: a soft preliminary stroke and a harder working stroke. The caliber of the weapon is 4.5 mm, and the magazine capacity is 17 bullets (BB steel balls).

Borner PM pneumatic is a copy of the world-famous Makarov pistol, designed in 1949. The combat analogue was in service with the police and army units of the Soviet Union. The instructions, written in Russian, make it easier to operate and become familiar with the weapon. The metal body and plastic lining on the handle give the Borner PM49 a stylish appearance. The pistol body is one-piece cast, allowing you to cock the trigger while the frame is stationary.

Weight of pneumatics - 650 g. In terms of weight, the pistol is not very different from a combat pistol; in the shooter’s hand, the difference is practically not noticeable. The Borner PM 49 pistol is equipped with an open-type clamping screw. The sight devices are not adjustable, but shooting accuracy does not suffer from this. An anti-reflective strip is applied to the upper surface of the barrel. The fuse, made by analogy with the combat analogue, works perfectly; its activation leads to blocking of the trigger.

Borner PM49 on the handle has a dark brown overlay, complementing the resemblance to the famous Makarov. To install the CO2 cartridge, you must slide the pistol grip back. This opens access to the seat and the clamping screw.

The Borner PM pneumatic model shoots spherical bullets with a diameter of 4.5 mm. In other words, these bullets are called steel explosive balls. The magazine contains 17 bullets. To remove the magazine, you need to carefully pry up its heel. The material for making the magazine is metal, the latch is also metal and practically does not wear out. The manufacturer guarantees a shot speed of 120 m/s. From 100 to 120 shots can be fired with one gas cartridge.

The Borner PM49 pistol has a double mechanism - self-cocking and pre-cocking. There are few weapons with a similar mechanism among budget options. Pre-cocking the trigger makes it easier to move and makes aiming more accurate. Borner PM pneumatic model , so reminiscent of Makarov, is in great demand on the Russian market. Good external design, excellent accuracy, high gas consumption and reasonable cost are the key parameters of this budget pistol.

Design

In total, the pistol consists of 14 main parts, but when the weapon is completely disassembled, there are 32 of them. The main parts of the pistol include:

  • USM;
  • frame with barrel and trigger guard (to facilitate some modifications of the Makarov pistol, a number of holes are drilled in the frame);
  • a free shutter, including an ejector, a safety device and a firing pin;

return spring to return the bolt to its original position.

In the design of pneumatic analogues, the frame is equipped with a carbon dioxide cylinder and a magazine for steel balls. The return spring that creates the BlowBack effect is completely absent.

The Borner PM49 air pistol has an imitation of removing the lever from the delay, however, it does not contain a moving part of the bolt (BlowBack system). But it has a trigger and safety flag similar to a combat pistol, but the manufacturer added a movable trigger guard.

Automatic free shutter has the following principle:

  1. The bolt locks the barrel with the inertia of its mass.
  2. A return spring mounted in the barrel returns the bolt from the breech position to its original position.
  3. The trigger with an open trigger is equipped with a double-action mechanism.

Shooting from the pneumatic Borner PM49 is carried out in 2 ways:

  • The hammer is cocked before each shot
  • simply by pressing the trigger (the shot is fired from self-cocking).

The principle of operation of Borner PM49: the trigger breaks off the sear and activates the impact mechanism. Manufacturers connected an extended gas fitting to the barrel and a clip to the rear chamber. It is noteworthy that the clip is removed by pressing the latch. The safety switch is designed with the ability to select one of two modes: “Stop” and “Fire”. The device is removed from the fuse by moving the flag to the “up” position.

Air pistol Borner PM 49 4.5 mm

The Borner PM49 air pistol is equipped with a double mechanism: self-cocking or manual pre-cocking of the hammer is possible.

The Borner PM49 trigger has two strokes: a soft preliminary stroke and a harder working stroke.

The caliber of the weapon is 4.5 mm, and the magazine capacity is 17 bullets (BB steel balls).

The Borner PM49 air pistol is a model of the PM air pistol from a new manufacturer, which is just beginning to occupy its niche in the arms market.

It exactly repeats the characteristic features of its legendary combat counterpart, right down to the shape of the handle lining.

The design of the pistol is made of metal, which gives it weight and increases the realism of shooting. To bring it closer to historical accuracy, the pistol does not have a thumbscrew for the siphon cartridge. Refilling requires a hex wrench, which is included in the package.

Borner PM49 has a double-action trigger mechanism - you can shoot by self-cocking by pressing the trigger, or by cocking the hammer before each shot.

External sights - rear sight and front sight, like the original. Between them there is a non-glare strip. In terms of weight, a PM air pistol is not very different from a combat pistol; in the shooter’s hand, the difference is practically not noticeable.

Modifications

Many pneumatic analogues of the Makarov pistol were created, such as:

  1. PM-654 from IzhMekh are made of steel, exactly copying all the parts of a combat pistol, and before the adoption of the Federal Law “On Weapons”, alterations of combat PMs retained their power.
  2. Umarex Ultra PM (with the BlowBack system - moving bolt) and Umarex Makarov - air guns made in Germany by Umarex.
  3. Gletcher PM - did not ignore the well-known device and trademark Gletcher of the American company SMG, which has production facilities in Taiwan. This model has a cast body and does not have the BlowBack effect, which is equipped with the Gletcher PM1951 model.
  4. BORNER PM49 - a pneumatic analogue of the PM-49 with a fixed bolt and a cast body from the American company Borner, has recently flooded weapons stores.
  5. Cybergun Makapob (608300).

Dismantling PM-49

Disassembly of Borner PM49 is carried out as follows:

  1. The magazine and plates are removed from the pistol handle.
  2. When using a 6-point wrench, the magazine-pressing slot is unscrewed.
  3. With the left side of the gun on the table, unscrew 7 screws from the body, starting with the under-barrel one.
  4. Remove the plug and divide the gun body into 2 parts.
  5. Remove the spring and bracket from the trigger and remove it.
  6. Remove the barrel and CO2 cylinder.

Next you need to separate the silumin part of the fuse, first unscrewing the inner part of the housing. It is important not to lose the gaskets connecting the fuse to the housing.

Borner PM49 is not the only pneumatic analogue of the PM-49. The domestic “Baikal MR” and “MR654K” have proven themselves well.

Pneumatic Makarov pistol Borner PM 49 and its complete disassembly/assembly

To completely disassemble a product such as a pneumatic PM, follow the step-by-step instructions:

1. Unscrew the Borner PM clamping screw with a hex key.

2. Take a Phillips screwdriver and unscrew the 8 screws of the PM 49 pneumatic housing. 7 are located on the right side of the pneumatic, and one, the longest, is under the barrel.

3. Take a flathead screwdriver and remove the barrel plug that is firmly in place.

4. The body of the Makarov Borner PM 49 air pistol consists of two parts. Once they are not fixed by anything, you can separate them.

5. Separately, I would like to note the story with the trigger rod, which flies off immediately after the parts of the pistol are separated. When assembling the PM 49 pistol, install it as shown in the photo.

6. During further disassembly and removal of the trigger, pay attention to how it is installed relative to the pistol barrel. When you remove it, the trigger spring immediately flies out of place.

7. Remove the trigger guard and trigger spring.

8. Remove the pistol trigger and the part with the spring that supports it.

9. Remove the barrel and gas chamber of the Borner PM 49 air pistol.

10. Unscrew the screw, remove the silumin part inside the housing that secures the weapon safety and remove it. Be careful not to lose the gasket that is located between the safety and the outside of the gun body.

Reviews

Vasily Stepanyuk, 17 years old, Vladivostok:

— The model is comfortable to hold in the hand, the accuracy and number of shots from one cylinder were satisfactory (as it was written), and I was also pleased with the power of the pistol.

Dmitry Kharchenko, 31 years old, Samara:

— Inexpensive and very convenient pneumatic analogue of PM-49. Good safety and movable trigger, good accuracy from 17-20 meters. To eliminate play in the handle, boiling water was used.

The price of PM49 pneumatics ranges from 3.5-4.5 thousand rubles, while the cost of a combat model is 20,000 rubles plus the cost of purchasing a license and a safe for storing weapons. Therefore, a pneumatic analogue of the legendary Makarov pistol can be purchased for a mini-collection or private entertainment use.
