Design
The limited-kill firearm Groza-04 was developed on the basis of the Ukrainian Fort-17 traumatic pistol. Literally everything has been copied - from the design of the pistol to the materials from which it is made. The pistol has a polyamide frame, which houses metal guides for the bolt housing. All parts except the frame are made of high quality steel. The automatic operation of the pistol operates due to recoil energy when the bolt is blown open. The barrel is rigidly fixed on metal rails without the possibility of dismantling it, the trigger mechanism is double-action with an open trigger. The safety cocking is activated using the control flag located on the left side of the bolt casing.
The dimensions of the flag and its location are made taking into account the anatomical capabilities of the human hand with one goal - comfortable control of a cocked pistol with one hand.
The magazine is double-row, designed for 15 rounds in a staggered arrangement. The sights are metal and consist of a horizontally adjustable rear sight and front sight.
The new EVO barrel features an improved design - instead of the outdated “toothy” internal surface of the barrel, it has an off-axis bore drilling.
That is, a bushing is hammered into the bore hole, which is drilled from two directions with some separation of the drilling directions. It is this bushing that does not allow the use of cartridges with a metal bullet - this solution is used by Technoarms designers on almost the entire line of the company’s traumatic weapons. The Groza pistol model 41 demonstrates excellent performance with any cartridges of a suitable caliber immediately after unpacking.
Since its introduction on the market, the Groza 041, equipped with barrels made using EVO technology, has demonstrated excellent accuracy and endurance. Barrels made using this technology have a whole list of advantages:
- Confident demonstration of good shot accuracy, regardless of loaded ammunition;
- No excessive spread of soft bullets;
- When using more powerful ammunition, it is not necessary to replace the mainspring;
- The pistol turned out to be truly omnivorous in terms of cartridges consumed;
Based on all this, the pistol turned out to be truly reliable and demonstrates the best performance in its line, even when using weak cartridges. The new barrel received an index of 4.4 and differs from its predecessor, version 4.1, in the quality of workmanship. In addition, the designers managed to solve the problem of the cartridge sticking - to do this they had to increase the distance between the magazine jaws by only 0.41 millimeters. Also for this purpose, the designers refined the chamber with pinpoint precision, polishing it to a mirror surface, and the magazines were fitted with the same precision to fit the 9 mm RA cartridge used.
This set of solutions allows the weapon to demonstrate reliability and accuracy of every shot, even when using ammunition filled with soft rubber balls.

“I’ve only recently owned the pistol; I haven’t had to shoot much with it yet. The barrel of my pistol is still from the first series, with a lot of “teeth”, so I have a little trouble cleaning it. So far I have only shot with cartridges with a power of 50 Joules, but the manufacturer allows the use of those that you like, as long as the caliber matches (according to the passport). According to my feelings, Groza-04 is much more convenient than Groza-02, the recoil is not felt so much, I will also note that the weapon is well balanced. First model
The Groza-01 pistol is a compact weapon designed for self-defense, which is suitable for daily concealed carry under clothing.
This is a small Russian-made weapon that is designed to fire rubber bullets. The prototype of the development is the Ukrainian “FORT-9R” traumatic pistol, but the Russian analogue has a significant number of design differences. The main differences between Groza-01 and the original from Ukraine are that the Russian pistol has a different barrel design and does not have a slide stop. This made it possible to make the weight of the weapon noticeably lighter; in place of the bolt stop there is now a latch, which is used for disassembling and assembling the product.
Automatic pistols operate using blowback recoil. The frame, barrel, bolt casing and other parts are made of weapon steel. The exception is the plastic cheeks of the handle. The magazine is box-shaped, seamless, single-row.
Shooting
To zero a pistol, it is better to give the weapon to a specialist, since for this procedure it must be secured in the machine or shots must be fired from a hard stop. Shooting during zeroing should be carried out from a five-meter distance at a 30-centimeter target with cartridges having an energy of 50 J.
The general rules for shooting are as follows:
- If, during zeroing, the bullet deviates to the right or left horizontally, then you need to simultaneously shift the front sight in the direction of the bullet deflection and the rear sight in the opposite direction, selecting the amount of displacement experimentally.
- If the bullet deviates downwards from the target, there is a high probability of poor shooting skill.
- If, with good skills, the bullet still deflects downwards, then a smaller front sight and a larger rear sight are installed using the selection method. If it's up, it's the other way around.
Repair
When using any weapon, it may need repair:
- In case of failure of the frame, barrel or bolt, that is, the main parts of the weapon, repairs are carried out by the manufacturer. The faulty pistol is sent to him by special communication with a referral for repair of the established type attached. This referral is received at the OLLR, which is located at the place where the weapon is registered. A similar procedure is used in the event of a breakdown of any other part of the gun that cannot be replaced independently.
- When a part of a weapon breaks that is not the main one and it is possible to replace it yourself, a letter is sent to the manufacturer’s address, which is accompanied by a photo of the weapon and its faulty part. He sends the required item by regular mail to the specified address.
If you need to clean the trunks V1-V3 between the teeth, you will need a flexible thin copper or steel wire. A loop is made at one end into which a thin strip of rags is threaded. The latter must be lubricated with gun oil or another cleaning compound. The free end of the wire is inserted into the barrel and pulled so that a piece of rag passes through the barrel and between the teeth. This is repeated several times.
A brush is used to clean the V4 barrel.
Assembly/disassembly, warranties and additions
The sequence for disassembling the pistol is as follows:
- remove magazine;
- move the fuse to the off position;
- twist the bolt to make sure there is no cartridge in the chamber;
- Press the slide stop axis from right to left and remove it from the frame;
- Pull the bolt back all the way and lift its rear part from the guides;
- remove the bolt from the barrel, carefully pushing it forward;
- pull out the return spring.
The reverse sequence is used when assembling the pistol.
When purchasing a Thunderstorm pistol, the price of which varies depending on the model from 27 to 36 thousand rubles, it is supplemented by an annual manufacturer’s warranty, which has no restrictions on the number of shots fired.

What kind of barrels does Groza-03 have?
This type of weapon has 4 barrel options. There is no point in dwelling on each in detail; they can be combined into two groups. The first will include 3 trunks, which are popularly called “toothed trunks.” They have a very primitive design: to limit the firing of live ammunition, two simple barriers are installed here. Three modifications of such a barrel, as a rule, changed in shape and size.
The most interesting option for buyers is the Groza-031 pistol. The barrel design here is based on the V4 and is called Evo; the engineers managed to improve all the performance characteristics of such a barrel. There are no barriers here. Firing with live ammunition is not allowed due to an interesting idea: the chamber and barrel are on different axes. But the main feature of such trunks is the longitudinal valleys, which are located inside the trunk to weaken it. The shooting performance with such a barrel is much more effective even than barrels with a smooth design.
When reviewing this weapon, some attention should be paid to the appearance of the muzzle. It looks like a full-fledged combat pistol
Of course, during an attack, the enemy most likely will not look at it, and it will not be possible to do this in poor lighting, but if you look at it carefully, the desire to attack will clearly decrease. Therefore, appearance also plays a certain role.
Contents of delivery
The “Groza” R-02S revolver is supplied in a case made of plastic. There you can find several things at once that will be useful during the operation of the weapon. This, of course, is a user manual, in which everything is described in detail in the language appropriate for the delivery set, a cleaning rod that is useful for cleaning the barrel. There are also two clips into which cartridges will be inserted. They are made of metal materials. By the way, you need to take them seriously if you don’t want to pay extra money. The thing is that you can, of course, buy a new clip (or, as it is also called in English, a “moon clip”). But it only costs, by different standards, from 700 to 1000 rubles.
The Groza R 03S traumatic revolver will be a good replacement for our model, which we are reviewing now. But why did we talk not about him, but about “P-02C”? The thing is that it is quite compact, but at the same time powerful weapon. And these are not all the advantages. This can also easily be attributed to ease of use, which even a child can handle (this is just a comparison, not a call).
Recycling or reconstruction?
Probably everyone already knows that many models of combat pistols found their application with the advent of traumatic weapons. Morally, these models are truly outdated. In conditions of a real military conflict, they could hardly help in any way. But when it came to the recycling process, some questions arose.
The main problem, of course, was that disposing of these weapons was quite expensive in terms of finances. It turned out to be much simpler and cheaper to convert these weapons to traumatic types. So, on the one hand, there was no longer a need to overpay money for disposal, and on the other hand, companies even made a profit thanks to the sale of converted traumatic samples.
