A knife is an indispensable tool for those who prefer active leisure or outdoor recreation. The Gyurza knife is popular among tourists and hunters. Initially, it is a military weapon and is supplied to various law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation on special order. The production of combat Gyurza is carried out by the Melita-K enterprise. But there is also the Gyurza Kizlyar, which is, in fact, a tourist knife and does not require special permission to carry. It is this product that will be discussed below.
Knife review
The combat model of the Gyurza knife is distinguished by a rather narrow blade with a length of 15.5 cm. The blade is shaped like a spear and has a one-and-a-half sharpening.
There is a serrator on the butt, which allows the knife to be used not only for piercing and cutting blows, but also to cut cables and also be used as a saw. To produce this weapon, high-quality steel is used, with a hardness of 52-58 HRC, which allows for effective piercing blows.
An anti-reflective coating is applied to the blade, which helps the military remain unnoticed. The model has a cross, which allows you to securely hold the knife in your hand when striking. The stops are bent towards the blade.
The handle is made of impact-resistant plastic or pressed leather. The pommel is made of metal and often has a hole for a lanyard. The kit includes a sheath that has loops for fixing the weapon on a belt.
Purpose
The main task of a combat knife is to defeat enemy personnel. The Gyurza knife is designed for piercing blows, which are applied with the aim of eliminating the enemy.
Depending on the variety, the Gyurza knife may have different purposes. Thus, models for hunters have a specific blade and an anti-slip handle, so it does an excellent job of cutting up carcasses.

There is also a civilian modification called “Gyurza-M”. This model does not have a guard, so it can be used by civilians without obtaining a special permit.

Typically, such a knife has a blade etched on both sides, less often there is an anti-reflective coating. This weapon has the following technical characteristics:
- total length - 24 cm;
- blade length - 12 cm;
- maximum blade width - 3 cm;
- butt thickness - 0.35 cm;
- hardness - 58 HRC units;
- blade material steel - Z60cdv14;
- weight of the knife with sheath is 238 grams.

Options and packaging
All models of Gyurza knives are supplied in classic packaging. The boxes are made of cardboard, painted black and have a white logo. The weapon is equipped with a sheath made of genuine leather.
The belt loop allows you to securely attach the gun to your belt using two rivets. The cover is fastened using a spring principle. A safety strap passes through the bolster on the handle.
Features of the blade of the Gyurza knife
The blade of the combat knife "Gyurza" is a typical dagger type; it is narrow and has a length of 155 mm. Despite its appearance, this is still a knife, not a dagger, since there is no double-sided dagger sharpening. Even a one-and-a-half-sided sharpening on the blade does not make it a dagger, since there is still a spine, albeit a small one.
The first part of the butt from the tip has a sharpening, then there is a section with a serrator designed for cutting cables and ropes, the last part of the butt has a sawtooth sharpening with fine teeth.
Despite all these serrators, the shape of the blade of the Gyurza knife directly screams that this is a real short dagger, and it must be handled accordingly. How do they work with a dagger? That's right, they cut and stab! “Gyurza” is intended for powerful piercing blows. The narrow and thick blade will easily pierce even winter clothing.
The blade of the combat knife “Gyurza” is made of steel 50Х14МФ or 70Х16МФS. To be fair, it is worth noting that the latter option is very rare, since the military does not tend to overpay for higher quality steel. Whatever you say, knives are used very rarely in modern combat operations, so the difference in the quality of steel is insignificant.
Many knife lovers are indignant when they read the manufacturer’s data on the hardness of the Gyurza blade. The spread stated there is too large, from 54 to 58 HRC. This does not mean that there are illiterate thermal experts at work who harden blades, as it happens, in between the next bottle of vodka. It’s just that everyone overlooks the fact that there are two types of steel on the blade. 50Х14МФ is hardened to 54-56 HRC, and 70Х16МФS is hardened to 56-58 HRC.
The blades of Gyurza combat knives are coated with a dark, camouflage or simply anti-reflective coating.
How to use
For law enforcement officers, this question may seem funny, since they have special skills. But for tourists this question is relevant. When using a knife, you should pay attention to the bend of the blade.
The classic tourist knife “Gyurza-2” will do an excellent job with household or field tasks, such as cutting food, preparing stakes for a tent, starting a fire, etc. If we talk about the hunting model, then it will cope with any task of the hunter, from skinning an animal to gutting.

This copy of "Gyurza", released in a few copies, has an interesting history and an amazing, in its scope and grandeur, geography of movement across Russia.
Judge for yourself:
the knife, the blade of which was forged in Zlatoust, and the assembly was carried out by the craftsmen of the Northern Crown in St. Petersburg, was eventually presented by the Governor of the Sakhalin region, Alexander Khoroshavin, to Khabarovsk resident Ilya Maximov in the capital of the only island region - the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
This is an award
became the culmination of the anniversary 10th All-Russian hand-to-hand combat championship named after the Hero of Russia, Major S.V. Romashin.
Considering
special status of the competition, the nomination “Best Fighter” was introduced for the first time. Based on the results of the competition, the best fighter was determined by a panel of judges based on a combination of sports, moral and volitional qualities.
Certainly,
The Governor awarding the best fighter with a knife produced by the official supplier of the award fund of the President of Russia, which, according to rumors, the President awards distinguished special forces fighters, is not a coincidence at all.

Concerning
the knife itself, then I won’t describe its performance characteristics this time. I will only say that it is quite heavy, very “graspy” and with its tactility, it evokes one emotion: “This is a WEAPON.”
And he got it
in good hands, fairly and for a long memory. Look at the photo series, you can see everything or almost everything in the photographs.
Where to buy and cost
It is impossible to purchase an original Gyurz combat knife, since they are produced on a special order from the Ministry of Defense. Special modifications have been created for civilians; to purchase such a knife model, it is better to contact manufacturers or retail stores that have established supplies with the manufacturer.
For people who are not well versed in edged weapons, it is better to go to a store to hold a knife in their hands, and also consult with the sellers. More experienced ones can purchase weapons on the Internet.
You won’t be able to purchase a combat model, but civilian ones can easily be purchased on the manufacturer’s official website or in specialized stores.
Technical characteristics and combat use of the knife
To fully appreciate the combat potential of the Gyurza knife, you need to look at its technical characteristics:
- The total length of the Gyurza knife is 278 mm, of which the blade accounts for 155 mm;
- Thickness at the butt – 5 mm;
- Blade width – 26 mm.
It is clear that with such characteristics, the knife can hardly be called universal. This is a specific weapon, and it was created for a specific purpose. There are some hints of versatility and multifunctionality, in the form of a saw and a serrator, but in our opinion, these “bells and whistles” are completely unnecessary for the knife.
The situation is slightly different with the civilian modification of this knife. It’s hard to imagine why a tourist or survivalist would need such a blade. It differs from the combat version only in the absence of a guard. Thus, the knife turns into a traumatic “dust gun”. Such blades are completely unsuitable for universal use, and are only suitable as specimens for a collection. Although for a true professional, the lack of a guard will not be a serious problem.
Is the Gyurza Kizlyar knife a treat for the eyes or a useful acquisition?
The blade of the Gyurza knife is curved, like the tooth of this poisonous snake. Because of this shape, it is closer to the so-called skinners - skinning knives. However, it is positioned as a cutting knife, although it has a spine thickness more befitting a massive tourist knife.
Description of the Gyurza Kizlyar knife
A blade with a strongly curved spine and a raised tip. Because of this, the cutting part has a significant extension and well-developed rounding. On the blade's holomena, a blackened image of a snake entwined around a tree branch was applied by etching (on the initially produced models the picture was slightly different).
The blade slopes with a slight concavity; on the lower edge of the heel there is a deep semicircular choil - a rest for the finger when gripping the center of gravity of the knife.
- The shank is one-piece with a blade; plates forming the handle are attached to it with riveted pins. Material – Caucasian walnut. The back of the handle is curved, so the top line of the knife looks wavy. The bolster expands towards the tip of the blade, forming an annular support for the hand.
- On the lower edge, next to the choil, there is a sub-finger notch. The belly of the handle is concave inward and ends with a cut from which a corner of the shank with a rounded corner protrudes. It has a hole for a lanyard. The butt of the handle is concave and flat.
Advantages and disadvantages:
- The thickness of the blade's spine is 3.7 mm, making it suitable for use as a tactical and tourist knife. It is durable, it can not only cut, but also perform operations that require using a knife as a lever - prying, tearing, chipping.
- It is not very convenient for use in the kitchen as a cutting knife due to the thickness of the spine. It is almost impossible to flatten the carcass into delicate pieces.
- The length of the blade - 120 mm - may not be enough for a tourist knife, but this drawback is compensated for by the length of the cutting part. The point raised up is a good device if you need to remove the skin, but it will also prevent you from pressing the butt with your palm if you need to cut stubborn material or pluck a splinter.
- The choil on the heel is very large, the finger fits completely in it. It can be indispensable for skinning operations. In other cases, I simply shortened the length of the cutting part, leaving useless metal.
- The lanyard hole is clearly out of place. The upper edge of the butt of the pommel of the handle has a sharp edge, so the fencing grip with a knife is uncomfortable. The handle is comfortable for those whose hands are not too large.
