Articles about what kinds of cartridges there are for a traumatic pistol are of interest, first of all, to potential buyers of civilian weapons. The difficulty of choice is explained by mass ignorance about the significance of certain characteristics that need to be taken into account both for a specific model of traumatology and for ammunition for it. You need to start by determining the purpose of acquiring and using a weapon.
Paradoxically, the motives of citizens who want to buy a traumatic pistol are different.
- Some want to get an effective means of self-defense.
- Others need a gun for fun.
- Still others simply want to increase their status by showing off just the presence of a gun to their friends.
One way or another, leafing through the pages of catalogs in which descriptions of models are presented, you will have to spend some time on what cartridges the weapon is manufactured for.
It is important to note here that it is the weapon that is manufactured for a specific category of ammunition, and not vice versa.
It is recommended to pay due attention to the characteristics of the cartridges, because the performance of the selected pistol or revolver will depend on them.
How not to sit down while wielding a weapon
You can store weapons only in a safe and only at your place of residence.
The pistol must be carried and carried in a holster, without a cartridge in the chamber.
The gun is transported in a case and unloaded. In this case, the cartridges must be kept separately.
When carrying a weapon, you must have a passport and a ROH permit with you, and you are allowed to carry a maximum of five barrels and a thousand rounds of ammunition. The law prohibits you from carrying a handgun if you are drunk, in a public place, at a public event, or in a food service establishment that sells alcohol. Punishments are established by the administrative code: most amount to a fine from 2000 R to 5000 R or deprivation of a license for up to two years.
What is muzzle energy
This is the name given to the impulse received by the bullet as it leaves the barrel. As the distance is covered, due to air resistance, the energy decreases.
The muzzle energy of a traumatic pistol is lower than that of a combat pistol, but it should not be taken lightly: in the wrong hands, the product can be fatal.
In frosty weather, the rubber ball can be harder and if it gets into the eye or neck artery, it can cause death.
These are the same weapons, just created for different purposes. And you need to be even more careful with it than with a combat one: the effect of the latter is quite obvious, while the cartridges of the former sometimes behave unpredictably.
For a better understanding, examples of military weapons with high muzzle energy can be seen here
OOOP certification, weapons certified as OOOP
After the above-mentioned changes were made to the Federal Law, certificates for self-defense weapons became invalid in the summer of 2011. In this regard, all weapons intended for civil self-defense had to undergo recertification.
Thus, the following LLC models received certificates: “Osa-PB4”, Taurus LOM-13, MP-461, “Cordon”, “Lider-M”, Shark, WASP R, “Shaman”, “Groza-01”, Grand -Power T-12, TT-T, Steyr M-A1, MP-353, PM-T, MP-78-9TM, MP-80-13E, MP-79-9TM, “Guardian”.
Note: these OOOP models were the first to be certified. Other models also have the possibility of re-certification, so when purchasing a weapon of limited destruction, you just need to make sure that you have a valid certificate.
The new certification rules also affected cartridges produced for OOOP, which at the moment, according to the new certificates, are called “cartridges for OOOP”. The law allows them to be applied exclusively to OP pistols.
Documentation
Inspection report. The safe must be checked by a local police officer or an employee of the Russian Guard from the licensing and permitting department. He will look at the size of the safe, how it is installed, and draw up an inspection report for the premises. The district police officer will come after submitting the documents, but you can invite him in advance. In this case, the process will go faster.
I went to the police stronghold, met the local police officer and filled out the report on the spot. It took me half an hour, but that doesn't always happen.
A friend of mine also received a weapons permit. He lives on the first floor and there were no bars on the windows. In this regard, the district police officer refused to sign the document, although the storage rules say nothing about bars and the first floor.
A medical certificate can be obtained at the clinic at the place of registration or at the medical center for money. Typically, such centers only issue medical certificates for obtaining various documents: driver’s licenses, weapons permits, medical records. Addresses and phone numbers of centers can be found on the Internet through a search.
To obtain a certificate to purchase a weapon, you need to see an ophthalmologist, a psychiatrist and a narcologist. You can see an ophthalmologist at a paid medical center, and a psychiatrist and narcologist at dispensaries at your place of permanent registration. You will also have to undergo tests to receive a separate certificate confirming the absence of drugs and psychotropics in your body.
In the clinic, the time for issuing the certificate depends on the doctors’ work schedule, but in the medical center it will be done in an hour. In the regions, a certificate is issued for a thousand rubles; in Moscow, prices reach five thousand. The certificate will be paid for in any case, even if you see doctors at the clinic. It is valid for one year from the date of issue.
Security forces do not need a medical certificate. At that time I was serving in the army, so instead of a medical report I took a certificate stating that I was assigned a weapon.
Hunting license. To obtain a permit for hunting and traumatic weapons, you need the same set of documents. Therefore, it makes sense to submit documents for two types of weapons at once. To hunt, you need a hunting license, which is issued free of charge by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation within a week after submitting the application. Without it, a hunting rifle can only be used for self-defense or at the shooting range. I had a hunting license, and I added a copy of it to the collected documents.
Photo. Do not forget to attach two 3 × 4 cm photographs to the collected documents.
What is the difference between pneumatic and traumatic?
Probably, every modern person has heard about traumatic and pneumatic weapons, even if he is not too interested in this topic. Indeed, they are often mentioned together, and due to the similarity of the name, some newcomers generally have the opinion that they are almost the same thing.
In fact, the difference is not just there - it is huge. The very principle of operation, as well as their purpose, are completely different. In general, a pneumatic gun and a travmat have much less in common than they have differences.
For clarity, it is worth giving a simple table, from which you can easily understand that these types of weapons have nothing in common except a similar name.
Parameter | Traumatic weapon | Airguns |
Energy source | Powder gases | Most often a can of CO2 |
Maximum muzzle energy | 91 J for civilian, 150 J for official. | 7.5 J |
Bullets used | Rubber bullets of different shapes | Metal balls or hemispheres |
License required | Need permission | No permission needed |
These are just the main differences between pneumatic and traumatic weapons. Finally, they have different purposes.
In most cases, injuries are purchased specifically for self-defense - these are quite serious weapons that can cause damage to an attacker. A pneumatic gun is rather a rather dangerous toy. It is perfect for acquiring shooting skills for adults and children, due to the availability and low cost of the weapons and ammunition themselves, but is not used for self-defense for a number of reasons.
Of course, today there are also very powerful models of pneumatic weapons - some even allow you to hunt wild boar! But this is rather an exception - this market in our country is completely undeveloped. Owning such a weapon is too expensive, and difficulties often arise with registration.
How to get a license?
Licenses for the purchase of weapons and ammunition are issued by internal affairs bodies based on applications from citizens of the Russian Federation.
The right to purchase civilian firearms of limited destruction are citizens of the Russian Federation who have reached the age of 21, citizens of the Russian Federation who have not reached the age of 21, who have completed or are undergoing military service, as well as citizens serving in state paramilitary organizations and having military ranks or special titles or class ranks.
Citizens of the Russian Federation who have reached the age of 18 have the right to purchase gas weapons, smooth-bore long-barreled self-defense weapons, sports weapons, hunting weapons, signal weapons, bladed weapons intended for wearing with the national costumes of the peoples of the Russian Federation or the Cossack uniform.
Will not receive a license:
- under the legal age
- having medical contraindications to owning weapons (drug addiction, substance abuse, alcoholism, poor eyesight)
- having an unexpunged or unexpunged conviction for an intentional crime, or an expunged or expunged conviction for a grave or especially grave crime committed with the use of a weapon
- serving a sentence for a crime
- those who repeatedly committed an administrative offense within a year (the list is determined by law)
- without permanent residence
- deprived by a court decision of the right to purchase weapons
Anyone wishing to purchase a weapon must provide the licensing service of the local police department with a certain package of documents (application, photographs, medical report on the absence of contraindications). In addition, the future shooter is required to undergo training in the rules of safe handling of weapons, and then pass an exam on them.
An application for a license is considered within a month from the date of its submission. The validity period of a license to purchase weapons and ammunition for them is six months from the date of issue of the license. With one license you can buy and register no more than 5 weapons belonging to the same category.
The purchased weapon must be brought to the police department, where it will be inspected and registered. After this, it will be possible to obtain permission to store and carry weapons, if required.
Review of 9 mm RA cartridges for the Streamer 2014 pistol
Published in Weapons on April 8
The Streamer 2014 pistol (Streamer) is one of the most powerful traumatic pistols using the 9 mm RA caliber (aka 9-RA, 9 RA, etc.). Caliber 9 RA is a popular caliber of traumatic weapon, which has a fairly strong penetrating effect (unlike, say, the 18x45 caliber used in the traumatic pistols "OSA" or "GUARD", the task of which is to stop the enemy, i.e. the emphasis is on the effect staying).
The contents of the passport of the Streamer pistol states: the pistol is suitable for firing only factory-made cartridges of Russian production (ZAO Tekhkrim and ZAO Novosibirsk Cartridge Plant) in areas with cold and temperate climates at ambient temperatures from minus 30 to plus 50 C. Is that so? this is actually whether it is possible to use cartridges from another manufacturer - these are the questions I will try to answer in this material.
There are also other manufacturers of 9 RA cartridges on the Russian market, such as the “national favorites” AKBS and the formidable KSPZ. A more detailed review of 9 mm RA caliber cartridges was given by me earlier in the article “9 RA traumatic cartridges.” The purpose of this review is to test traumatic 9 mm RA cartridges in the Streamer 2014 pistol and select the most optimal of them, both for training and for combat duty (CD). A lot has been written about cartridges and their comparison on weapon forums, but it’s always better to check everything yourself
