Description
Perazzi MX2000 is a smoothbore shotgun manufactured by the Italian company Armi Perazzi. The company was founded in 1957 by Daniel Perazzi. From the very beginning, the founder's goal was to design and produce the best sporting shotgun, and after a few years it became clear that he had coped with his task.
The company gained worldwide fame from shooter Ennio Matarelli, who believed in Perazzi guns and won the gold medal with him at the Tokyo Olympics in 1964. The production that started from a small factory is now known all over the world. Perazzi serves the American market through its subsidiary serving the Italian manufacturer, Perazzi USA Inc., located in the Los Angeles suburbs, California. Perazzi USA is an importer and distributor for the US market, supplying US gun stores with Perazzi guns.
During its existence, the company produced several sporting shotguns of a narrow specialization class, intended for professional athletes, the most popular of which was the predecessor of the MX2000 model - the Perazzi MX8. Produced since the 70s of the last century, the gun soon gained incredible popularity. It brought many gold medals to its owners, including at the Olympics in Sydney, Atlanta and Athens. Many modifications of the model were produced, targeting various sports disciplines, as well as the desires of the owners.
Since 1999, the production of the Perazzi MX 2000 model began. The weapon, unlike the older model, had three-quarters of the barrels connected by ventilated slats, the connection of which reached the level of the forend, a ventilated sighting rib with wider holes, as well as a slightly modified trigger mechanism . The MX2000 model is also equipped with an ejector for extracting spent cartridges.

General description of Perazzi MX2000
Perazzi MX2000 is a smoothbore shotgun manufactured by the Italian company Armi Perazzi. The company was founded in 1957 by Daniel Perazzi. From the very beginning, the founder's goal was to design and produce the best sporting weapons, and after a few years it became clear that he had coped with his task.
The company's major success was associated with the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, the Perazzi MX8, Perazzi MX10, Perazzi MX12 and Perazzi Mirage shotguns enabled athletes from Austria and the USA to win 3 gold medals and 1 bronze. Later, seven Perazzi MX8, one Perazzi MX12 and one Perazzi MX2000 shotguns at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney brought their owners from Austria, Azerbaijan, Hungary, Italy, Kuwait, Lithuania and the USA 9 medals: 3 gold, 1 silver and 5 bronze medals . Then it was a rare achievement - 9 medals at the highest sports forum with guns from the same company.
However, just 4 years later, at the Olympic Games in Athens, branded shotguns surpassed this milestone, and shooters with seven Perazzi MX8 over/unders, one Perazzi MX12, one Perazzi MXSC3 and two Perazzi MX2000 from Austria, Azerbaijan, Hungary, India, Spain, China, Korea , Cuba, Russia, the USA and Finland, have already received 12 medals: 4 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze.

Produced since the 70s of the last century, the gun soon gained incredible popularity. It brought many gold medals to its owners, including at the Olympics in Sydney, Atlanta and Athens. Many modifications of the model were produced, targeting various sports disciplines, as well as the desires of the owners.
Production of the Perazzi MX 2000 model, a smoothbore shotgun with a vertical barrel arrangement, started in 1999. This gun, unlike the older model, had three-quarters of the barrels connected by ventilated slats, the connection of which reached the level of the fore-end, a ventilated sighting rib with wider holes, as well as a slightly modified trigger mechanism. The MX2000 model is also equipped with an ejector for extracting spent cartridges.
Design
The Perazzi MX2000 is a classic representative of “over-and-under” shotguns - shotguns with an internal trigger mechanism and vertically positioned barrels. However, the workmanship of Perazzi's products is significantly superior to other guns. The mechanisms of the Perazzi MX2000 shotgun are thought out to the smallest detail; the weapon is equipped with many elements that make working with the shotgun easier for the athlete and increase the level of ease of handling the weapon. A stopper for securing the upper lever when the chamber is open is installed on the block guard at the top.
Perazzi's designers decided that the best result could be obtained if the barrels were not completely soldered together. The ventilated side strips are soldered to the barrels three-quarters of the way through; there is no connection under the forend. Unlike hunting models, the sports MX2000 is equipped with a removable trigger operated by a single trigger. The trigger module is integral with the trigger guard; it can be quickly removed from the gun. This is justified by the fact that during competitions, a breakdown of the trigger mechanism is tantamount to defeat, while the removable design allows you to quickly eliminate the malfunction.
USM MX 2000 is equipped with one trigger. Its main difference from the mechanism of the older MX8 model is the modified design of the side springs. This innovation made it possible to reduce the response time of the trigger when pressing the trigger. The trigger firing sequence of this model is not adjustable: first the shot is fired from the lower barrel, then from the upper.

Armi Perazzi spa
Italian phenomenon
Nowadays, not a single major shooting competition is complete without vertical guns from the Italian company Armi Perazzi spa (Perazzi Weapons) and its team. At many world championships in recent years, shooters from different countries have won, shooting from the legendary Perazzi MX models. Many domestic athletes prefer these verticals; they could be seen at the 2009 Russian Championship.
The sports shooting team is actually a division of the Armi Perazzi spa company.
The company's major success is associated with the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, the Perazzi MX8, Perazzi MX10, Perazzi MX12 and Perazzi Mirage shotguns enabled athletes from Austria and the USA to win 3 gold medals and 1 bronze. The history of weapons production is filled with the most unexpected events and facts. The most striking phenomenon of the 20th century is that young Italian arms companies, which emerged only in the second half of the last century, have now become leaders in the sporting and hunting arms market. Among them, one of the first places is occupied by the company Armi Perazzi spa. The official date of its creation is considered to be 1957, it was founded by a young, but even then independent master Perazzi Daniele (Daniele). He began his career as a gunsmith at the age of 16, and received his first patent at the age of 20.
For many years the company was called Manifattura ArmiPerazzi (Production of Perazzi Weapons), until it was changed to the modern Armi Perazzis.pa The company remained a family company, now the son and daughter of D. Perazzi work for it. It is located in the town of Botticino Mattina, a suburb of Brescia. The corporate color is red, the gables of the production building, showrooms and exhibition stands are decorated in the same style. At any exhibition in any country, a company can be easily identified by its corporate color. The main hall in the office, filled with display cases of Perazzi weapons, is known to all the world's leading athletes.
From the first days of its existence, the company relied on sports models, especially since its founder was fond of them in his early youth and sold his first guns at a local shooting stand. D. Perazzi created the first sports model together with the famous sports shooter of Italy, and over time his guns were recognized even at the Olympic Games. This is how the Perazzi brand became prestigious. The company has opened its representative offices in almost all European countries, as well as Australia, Argentina, the USA, Japan and others; there is a boutique in Russia.
The company had to go through all stages of development of a weapons company; it produced guns of various designs in an effort to choose the most promising for the market and optimal for production. One of the first such models was the Perazzi horizontal gun with an unusual connection between the barrel block and the block - two parallel long under-barrel hooks. There are two long grooves in the block for them. The block of barrels is locked in the lower block by a latch into the grooves at the end of the under-barrel hooks. The barrels are connected according to the “mono-block” system using a breech coupling, on which under-barrel hooks are made. The horizontal locks are mounted on a removable base of the trigger mechanism, and the combat V-shaped springs are installed behind the triggers. The trigger mechanism is equipped with a single trigger.
The design of the Perazzi horizontal rifle is well thought out and worked out; various elements are installed on it to make shooting and handling the gun easier. A stopper for securing the upper lever when the barrel block is open is mounted on the block guard at the top; ejector mechanisms are located in the forend. The gun, as an example of a high category, is well finished: the surfaces of the block, tang, upper locking lever, and trigger guard are decorated with hand engraving in the form of a continuous floral pattern. Even the safety button is engraved. The breech of the barrel block was decorated with the inscription Manifattura ArmiPerazzi Brescia Italy (Production of Perazzi weapons, Brescia, Italy).
In the 1970s, the sports vertical Perazzi MX8 gained the greatest popularity, which, with barrels 760 mm long, weighed almost 3.7 kg. It is still in no less demand. The company name and model make are indicated on the breech of the barrel block. The connection of the barrels to the block is similar to the vertical of the Boss & Co. system, and the block is set low in the block. The main supporting surfaces are the front end platforms of the rear modified hooks and the rear end areas of the protrusions in the sidewalls of the block in contact with them.

The trigger mechanism of the MX8 shotgun with combat V-shaped springs and one trigger is removable. Removable and handguard. Branded locks are characterized by a significantly shorter response time than locks of a similar design, but with spiral cylindrical mainsprings. The stock is easy to replace; it is secured to the block with a long screw, which is accessible with a screwdriver through a hole in the butt plate-shock absorber.
The company paid special attention to the material of the barrels and made them from Swedish Bofors steel or the more famous Boehler alloy steel and even stainless Boehler Antinit. Ventilated slats were installed on the barrel blocks - sighting and connecting.
It is worth stopping at the previous Perazzi MT6 over/under with a block of unsoldered barrels, which are connected only by a breech coupling and jumpers in the muzzle and under the front end of the removable forend. It was often produced with an unusual finish: the last was decorated with a geometric pattern in the form of alternating strict light and dark stripes. This gun has a removable trigger mechanism with spiral cylindrical mainsprings.
Hunting rifles
Composition with three woodcocks on a vertical Perazzi SCO
Most of the previously popular models no longer exist, and only the Perazzi MX8 shotgun turned out to be so promising that it became the ancestor of almost all modern branded weapons. Currently, the company produces only shotguns, mainly with blocks of vertically connected barrels, including for hunting and all disciplines of sports shooting. At the factory in the town of Botticino Mattina, no more than 12 guns are produced daily. The quantity is limited, since the main thing for the company is high quality assembly, which is done by hand. The production employs more than 100 craftsmen of various specialties. Despite this volume, in fact, this is not just a factory, but rather a specialized enterprise where they will create a real gun and decorate it with exquisite engraving. Moreover, most copies are made to order and equipped with a butt stock, made according to the shooter’s personal measurements.
Everything at the company is simple and logical, even the markings indicating the model or caliber are easy to decipher. Branded guns have everything you need to shoot a lot and accurately without getting tired: ventilated straps on the barrel block, a firing mechanism with one trigger, a stock with a pistol-shaped neck. And only a number of hunting rifles have a traditionally shaped stock with a straight neck.
A hunting scene with pointing dogs on a vertical frame with side decorative plates Perazzi SCO
PerazziMX hunting rifles of all common shotgun calibers - 12, 20, 28 and .410, are created on the basis of the main branded model Perazzi MX8. The block of barrels in the block is locked by two side rods, which rest on side hooks on the breech end of the lower barrel. The markings of most hunting models are significantly different from sports ones, because... the numbers indicate the caliber: Perazzi MX12, Perazzi MX20, Perazzi MX28 and Perazzi MX410. This is very significant for the technology, since for each gun caliber the factory produces its own block of appropriate sizes and barrel block. All hunting rifles are equipped with barrel blocks of standard length from 660 to 750 mm, usually 680 or 700 mm long, a firing mechanism with one trigger, a ventilated sighting rib 7 mm wide, and a stock with a straight neck.
Another hunting over/under, the MX2000S 12- or 20-gauge, has the same design as the base model and is characterized by a relatively modest finish. These guns are equipped with a stock with a straight neck.
Fine engraving with small arabesques on the vertical with side decorative plates Perazzi SCO
For each model, there are several design options that differ in decor, as well as the type and texture of walnut wood on the stock and fore-end. Each option has its own marking: Standard with a smooth last or trimmed with a decorative edging along the contour, SC with an engraved last, as well as SC0 SP (Side-plates) and Extra with side decorative plates. Moreover, different SC styles are marked with an additional number in the designation. The Extra Super or Extra Gold variants with figurines of birds and animals made in gold feature unique, complex engraving. The bottom surface of the stocks of these guns is decorated with the inscription Extra.
The hunting model range is complemented by unique sets, each of which includes 4 completely identical guns of various calibers - 12, 20, 28 and .410, but of any one version, including SC2, SC3, SC0, SC0 SP, Extra, ExtraGold, Extra Super. The engraving of the set, made primarily in the “bulino” style, is the same, and differs only in the details on guns of different calibers.
Sporting shotguns
The main weapons of the company are sports models Perazzi MX6, Perazzi MX8, Perazzi MX10, Perazzi MX12, Perazzi MX2000 12 gauge, designed for Olympic shooting, “trap” and “skeet”, as well as “sporting” and “American trap”. 20-gauge over-and-unders are created on the basis of only two models, and an additional designation has been introduced into their markings: MX8/20 or MX10/20. More recently, the popular, and deservedly so, shotguns Perazzi MX6 and Perazzi Mirage were replaced by the Perazzi MX2000 model. For “sporting”, along with others, they produce the Perazzi MX2000S shotgun. The MX2000/3 group of sporting shotguns is distinguished by the fact that they have a high rib and an insert on the upper comb of the stock that are adjustable.
Sports vertical Perazzi MX2005 Trap with a high aiming rib
The proprietary standard range of barrels consists of blocks with a length of 680 to 800 mm, depending on the purpose of the gun - “trap”, “skeet” or “sporting”. The sighting strips on all models are of different designs, but always ventilated. In addition, the connecting strips on the barrel blocks have ventilation slots. The main goal is to ensure intense heat exchange between the barrels and the outside environment during intense shooting on sports grounds. In addition, ventilation slots make it possible to slightly reduce the weight of the barrel block and the gun as a whole.
All sporting shotguns are so well assembled, and the blocks are carefully processed, that a standard finish with a decorative and at the same time protective black coating is quite enough for them. The only decoration is the inscriptions with the names of the model and company. Tastefully, although modestly finished, the guns look solid and elegant.
One of the last to be created was the MX2005 12-gauge sports model for trench shooting. The design of the locks and the block locking unit in the block is the same as on other branded verticals. Barrel block with ventilated connecting strips in standard lengths of 750, 780 or 800 mm. It is equipped with a high, removable, ventilated sighting rib with a width of 7 or 11 mm, the four supports of which allow its position to be adjusted to suit the individual shooter. For this purpose, combs are made in the front and rear supports, into the gaps of which spring-loaded wedges located at the ends of the bar are pushed. The high level of the rib made it necessary to raise the top comb of the stock. An additional fit for the athlete is provided by a height-adjustable insert installed on it.
High removable sighting bar for the Perazzi MX2005 Trap shotgun
The MX2005 shotgun block is finished with a protective coating - light matte nickel, or smooth black. The gun is decorated in a modern style - a modest but elegant design is applied to the smooth surfaces of the block. The brand of the gun Perazzi MX2005 is indicated on the side of the block, and the inscription Perazzi Brescia Madein Italy (Perazzi, Brescia, Made in Italy) is applied on the breech of the barrels.
Perazzi 12-gauge single-barrel sporting shotguns for the American Trap discipline, where only single-barreled shotguns are shot, are created on the basis of double-barreled over-and-unders. The markings of single-barreled guns mostly coincide with the designation of the basic models - Perazzi MX8, Perazzi MX10 or Perazzi MX2000. Moreover, only single-barreled guns of a separate group received their own designation Perazzi MX14, Perazzi MX14L, Perazzi MX15, Perazzi MX15L, Perazzi MX10RS.
Based on the design of the block, single-barrel models can be divided into two groups. One consists of samples with a barrel installed in the upper part of the breech coupling, and a short simulator of the lower barrel. On most models, the simulator is made flush with the fore-end; on some models, a short section of it protrudes beyond the barrel. Another group includes models with a barrel installed in the lower part of the breech coupling; the place of the missing upper barrel is taken by a sighting bar of a complex design.
Earlier single-barreled guns were designated as follows: Perazzi TM1 Special, Perazzi TMX Special, Perazzi TM10. There was also a single-barreled Perazzi MX7. The first 12-gauge models were produced with barrel lengths of 810 and 860 mm, later ones were also equipped with an 890 mm barrel. Numerous single-barreled guns differed not only in the location of the single barrel, but also in the design of the sighting bar and its fastening, as well as the finishing of the block.
***
The success of Armi Perazzi spa is based on the fact that it was able to implement in metal and wood the principle of an individual gun, both for each shooter and for each type of shooting. Perazzi shotguns are invariably popular in many countries; it is not for nothing that a significant part of the weapons is exported.
E.G. Kopeiko Expert opinion
Advantages and disadvantages
Each gun, without exception, has its own advantages and disadvantages, even the highest class weapons. The Perazzi MX2000 was no exception.
Advantages of the model:
- Wide choice of equipment. The company provides the opportunity to choose a gun that fully meets the shooter’s requirements. In addition to more than fifteen ready-made modifications of the MX2000, Perazzi gives the client the opportunity to choose everything from barrel length and choke to stock shape. Thus, the weapon is completely adjusted to the shooter’s anthropometry.
- Incomplete fusion of trunks. A special technology for connecting the upper and lower barrels avoids loss of accuracy when the barrel block heats up due to intense shooting.
- The presence of an ejector. In competitions, not only accuracy is important, but also speed of fire. A device for extracting cartridges after a shot significantly speeds up and facilitates the reloading process.
However, the design was not without its drawbacks:
- Inability to immediately continue shooting if there is a misfire. If the first shot does not fire due to a misfire, it will be impossible to fire from the second barrel immediately. The reason for this problem is the design of the trigger, which changes its position from one barrel to another due to the inertia of the shot. Accordingly, if there is no inertia of the shot, the trigger will not switch to the second barrel. To do this, you will have to put the gun on the safety and remove it again, which means for the athlete the loss of precious seconds.
- Heavy replaceable choke tubes. Standard choke tubes for MX2000 modifications with non-fixed choke constrictions weigh about 50 grams, versus 26-30 grams for other manufacturers. Thus, according to the statements of the athletes, modifications with “replaceable chokes” have a slightly shifted balance compared to guns with fixed constrictions.
Perazzi hunting rifles
Perazzi is the golden weapon of the world Olympic champions. Gold, because most gold medals were won with this weapon. These guns have the most practical and reliable locking system, there are no analogues in the world. Another integral advantage of the company is that manufacturers do not have a cookie-cutter approach; weapons are made taking into account the data and wishes of athletes. Simply put, the Perazzi is the pinnacle of skeet shooting.
Everyone who has ever shot from such barrels, or those who dream of shooting from them, only thinks about such sporting shotguns, but there is another side to Perazzi shotguns - these are hunting barrels.
More than three decades ago, the management of the Perazzi company thought about expanding its production, because... exclusively sporting guns greatly limited sales. The arms market of that time was saturated with world-famous manufacturers. However, having such a name, knowledge, highly qualified staff and a ready-made production base, the company's management took a decisive step. Another major plus was that Mauro and Daniele Pirazza were avid hunters and, combined with their knowledge of gunsmithing, there was a great chance of creating an excellent hunting arsenal.
To create the now famous Perazzi MX hunting barrels, the base was the Perazzi MX8 sports shotgun. The owners do not deny at all that all hunting rifles are modified sporting rifles, but the fact of the matter is that they are specially modified for hunting.
At a minimum, there is a difference in calibers; sporting shotguns, as a rule, were produced only in 12 gauge, while hunting shotguns were produced in almost all calibers, up to 28 mm and 410 mm. If you see a number marking on a Perazzi gun, this indicates its caliber. For example, Perazzi - MX12, MX20, MX28 and MX410, where the numbers are the caliber. Oddly enough, now, and in recent years, small-caliber guns are increasingly in demand, but this is for the European and American markets. For us, everything remains the same, the most popular is 12 gauge, a little smaller, but I’m interested in 20 gauge, as a rule, for hunters with hounds.
Another significant difference between hunting rifles is their weight, it is smaller than their sporting ancestors, and choke constrictions are also recorded in hunters. However, for individual orders, there may be replaceable chokes. It is possible to purchase barrels of different lengths for hunting, up to a length of as much as 860 mm; it is worth noting that the aiming bar for hunters is 7x7 mm and the forend is much lighter. All this improves the quality of shooting and allows you to use the weapon on long hunts with transitions.
By the way, all Perazzi hunting rifles are automatically put on safety, and the trigger is not removable. As for the length of the chambers, it is determined by the customer; the manufacturer can install any chamber from 70 mm to the largest 89 mm. The stock of hunting rifles has been completely changed both in shape and size. The finishing of the guns, although it does not affect the direct technical characteristics, you must agree that individual and original engraving is an indicator of the gun. In this case, the best specialists of the company work on engraving.
If, for example, you take the Perazzi MX 2000 sporting shotgun, then it is quite suitable for hunting, in addition, if the owner wants to get just such a shotgun, then you can order it in a hunting version. But the MX 2000 model has a strict limitation: it does not have any engraving and can only be 12 and 20 gauge. A few years ago, the Perazzi company offered only vertical guns, but there were various modifications and options for them.
Engraving. There is incredible freedom of choice; patterns are applied to the wood, to the locks, and to the blocks. But the price also corresponds to the product, starting from 10 thousand euros, and then it’s up to the customer to figure it out. Whatever the price, you will be purchasing a perfect hunting rifle compared to similar ones from other manufacturers.
Now about modern Perazzi shotguns. After 13 years of silence, the company began producing horizontal cameras in the same calibers as vertical ones, 12, 20, 28 and .410 mm. The company also began producing vertical, double-barreled fittings, which only accept special .375 Holland&Holland and 9.3x74R cartridges. By the way, such fittings were last produced in 1979; then only 5 of them were made to order. Modern fittings, of course, have undergone significant changes, and the quality of the material, characteristics, and execution have all become one level higher.
Hunting rifles have a lot of design options and configurations. You can purchase both a basic model and an Extra Super class, but it cannot be said that the basic one is a simple gun.
High-quality and original models include Extra, Extra Super, Extra Gold; such models are considered one-piece and collectible and they are made in sets. Each set includes guns of different calibers 12, 20, 28 and .410 mm, and the customer can also individually order any barrel length for each caliber, from 680 mm to 750 mm. All barrels are equipped with spiral mainsprings and selective triggers. The stock is made of two types: straight or pistol from walnut.
There are also guns with false boards: SCO Sideplates, SCO Gold Sideplates, SCЗ and Standart, SCO, SCO Gold.
It is noteworthy that for each type and class of gun, there is a certain type of engraving, gilding is used in engraving, etc.
Perazzi shotguns can be used throughout the day and up to several hundred shots, and both the shotgun and the sportsman or hunter will feel normal.

The history of the Perazzi MX8.
The Perazzi arms company itself was founded in 1957. From the very beginning, this arms company specialized in the production of smoothbore weapons for sports shooting. Since 1970, the company began producing hunting smoothbore shotguns, which quickly established themselves as extremely reliable and well-built. This Italian arms company specializes in the production of single-barreled and double-barreled (exclusively with vertical barrels, due to its sporting past) smoothbore shotguns. Smoothbore weapons from the Italian company Perazzi are known in North America and Western Europe. This company entered the Russian market of smooth-bore hunting weapons relatively recently, around the 2010s, and so far Perazzi products are quite rare on the shelves of specialized stores.
