Review of the Ataman AP16 air pistol
Name: pneumatic pistol ATAMAN AR16 Caliber: 5.5 mm Type: pneumatic pistol with pre-inflated air Availability of gear: yes Barrel: Lothar Walther Color: black anox (a silver model will also be produced in a gift version) Weight: 900 g Magazine: drum type Certificate: 3 J (no license required for purchase) (ATAMAN) The ATAMAN family of PSP pistols will be represented by 2 models.
The main differences are the handle (anatomical for the standard model, cheeks similar to 1911 pistols for the premium model) and the barrel casing (not available for the standard model). The premium version of the pistol will also be equipped with a Picatinny rail for mounting a red dot sight. The picture above shows the silhouette of a premium pistol. The pistol is well balanced and fits comfortably in the hand, although the balance is understandably slightly forward.
The ATAMAN PSP pistol is made according to a gear design; the air supply in the tank is enough for 20-25 shots. The speed of the pistol in the export version is approximately 200 m.s. Cocking is a “biathlon” type, carried out by a lever located on the left side of the pistol. The pistol is cocked very quickly - with a slight movement of the index finger of the left hand.
Video from the exhibition:
I recently decided to shoot here, unscrewed the cylinder at home, asked for it, screwed it back in, as it seemed, not completely. I arrived at the dacha, tightened it there, but didn’t hear a puff. I thought the valve at home had worked. Loaded it, fired, and it clicked and that was it. In general, it looks like the pin of the valve that opens the cylinder during installation has fallen out of the cylinder. Please see where there are differences with yours, on the gun or the cylinder?
1 parameter accuracy at 20 meters: All samples are equally valid, depends on the shooter, in general the laser. From my experience, only Zhsb 0.67 flew well; the rest of the marks were scattered at 4.5. 2. Application, ease of use: I won’t open America if I say that the short one wins in all respects. Personally, I shoot from long, if not from a rest, then from the elbow of my left hand, with my palm on my right shoulder, it turns out quite well, 0.33 can, from 35 meters 5 out of 5. It’s not convenient to hold a Koltova handle in one hand with such weight as this long. 3 lethality, flatness, convenience for hunting: 4.5 long. Better flatness, with barrels aimed at 35 meters, a long 4.5 by 60 meters must be aimed at the upper quarter of the A4 sheet to get into the lower quarter of the A4 sheet, a long 5.5 hits the upper net of another sheet located below, a short one even lower at an average of 7- 10 cm. In general, after 50 meters 5.5 is absolutely a mortar, with 4.5 it’s somehow a little easier to choose a lead. I consider the optimal distance for zeroing to be 30-35 meters for 4.5, 25-30 meters for 5.5. Sharpness is definitely 4.5 long, the board of which was shot at 50 meters, 4.5 was drilled to the full height of the bullet, 5.5 was half long, 5.5 short the bullet bounced off in half of the hits. The hardcover log book 5.5 is long, 25 sheets worse than the 4.5, the short one is really bad, the hard cover was a good obstacle for it. It’s even funny how the length of the barrel affects the maximum distances; according to the passports, the gearbox space is the same for all 5.5s. 4. Convenience for shooting. In general, depending on the level of initial filling of the tank, 4.5 fires 25-30% more shots than 5.5 long, 5.5 short. The short 5.5 is more convenient for shooting. 5.5 long is behind in all respects. 5. Ease of transportation: it’s undeniably short on a horse. Result of the test: 1. For hunting, the 4.5 long is better, it is slightly inferior to the 5.5 long due to the weight of the bullet, but the sharpness and flatness are better, for maximum distances of 35 meters, due to better penetration, the bullet will do more work in the body of a large feathered victim, For small ones, 4.5 and 5.5 are enough. From personal experience, quack-quack only in the head and if it flies lower, then the neck, less quack-quack, up to 50 meters there is enough to miss. Up to 35 meters, the short 5.5 will perform well, plus it is more convenient. 2. For shooting games, 4.5 is long, more shots, less hassle with refueling, and the caliber is not important here (paper is soulless). I assume that the 4.5 shorty will also not be bad due to its convenience, but it was not in the test. For the departure of 5 different shooters with varying degrees of training, in general, during a competitive exercise (0.33 Pepsi cans placed at a distance of 20-60 meters every 5 meters, all the shots were better from the 4.5 long one. The owner of the 5.5 short one admitted that further than 35 meters He doesn’t shoot at living targets and considers claims of loot to be sly, it’s hard to hit, the cardboard flies away even when hit.
Draw your own conclusions, everyone has their own priorities. My conclusion: needed for shooting up to 25 meters, I dare to suggest that a 4.5 short one will not be bad, although it was not in the test. Hunting up to 30-35 meters, then the short 5.5 is convenient due to its size and weight, it still has killing power at these meters. Hunting up to 50 meters and shooting, then 4.5 is long, the lethality is excellent, the flatness is better (an important factor, an error in determining the distance and a miss, debates about lethality are generally aside in this case), there are a lot of shots from one charge. The most controversial is 5.5 long, it seems that the lethality is better than the short one and on the level with 4.5, it is more difficult to hit the target at 35 meters, shots from a gas station are less than 4.5 long, in other words. As for the operating features, I do not allow temperature changes of more than 10 degrees when the tank is filled. I fill up to 250 atm (or whatever is left in the cylinder), the year of operation is 2500 shots, the rubber bands are alive, we will watch, and don’t skimp on the silicone grease, spray more often on the rubber bands and on the fitting. I will not respond to reviews from those who like to argue and flood; questions on the merits are a different matter. I’m writing as it is, what I saw, I’m not posting the photo, and they didn’t do it on purpose, in general, the comparison was started quite spontaneously when they started shooting at the banks and no one could get further than 50 meters from 5.5 until the paper was hung up, don’t believe the words, the photo won’t prove it , I didn’t shoot a video, I don’t write blogs, I can post a photo of a collective farm with an upgrade to the PK-02 collimator after the weekend. We have a championship here, so the pistol is permanent in the village until July 25th. I'll go to the village and take a photo if anyone needs it. In general, cool pistols, everything is stock, no upgrade needed, they shoot without fail. Price is a question of more personal income, not utility bills or taxes, take it or leave it. I won’t hide the fact that I want it to be cheaper.
Description of the pneumatic PCP gun Ataman AP16 511/B (5.5 mm)
The chic PCP model of a pistol from the famous Russian brand Ataman is an indicator of reliability and quality that not many weapons from other brands can boast of.
The modern appearance of the pneumatic Ataman AP16 511/B will undoubtedly win the love of many professional shooters. The material used to produce the body of the Ataman AP16 511/B pistol was a high-strength and fairly lightweight aluminum alloy. Since it is used in the aerospace industry, its incomparable quality can be immediately understood.
Thanks to aluminum, the manufacturer was able to achieve a relatively low weight - 0.8 kg. The length of the model is also quite compact and does not exceed 305 mm.
The pistol grip has anatomical wooden grips coated with varnish. Varnish not only adds shine and chic, but also protects the wood from the harmful effects of moisture.
And despite this, the price of the air pistol Ataman AP16 511/B will pleasantly surprise many shooting enthusiasts and professional athletes.
5.5 mm barrel is manufactured by German specialists at the Lothar Walther company. To prevent rust, the steel is blued.
The main internal parts are also made using steel and finished with a blued finish.
Shots from the Ataman AP16 511/B air pistol are fired using lead bullets. Bullets are loaded into a special clip-drum in the amount of 7 pieces.
When leaving a rifled barrel, the initial velocity of the projectile is 70 m/s. However, after installing a reinforced needle, the speed increases to 200 m/s.
This is also facilitated by muzzle energy of up to 3 J and pre-pumped air under pressure into a special receiver. It is located directly under the barrel and allows you to fire up to 50 shots.
For timely pumping of the cylinder, there is a pressure gauge on its back side.
And although the model is equipped with a non-automatic safety and has a rifled barrel, buy an Ataman AP16 511/B air pistol in our store with delivery to any city in the Russian Federation.
The front sight and rear sight are used as sighting devices. However, for more accurate shooting, you can install a collimator or optical sight on a special rail.
The Ataman AP16 511/B pistol comes complete with a filling fitting, a hexagon and a special moderator to reduce noise during shooting.
Attention! This model has a weakened spring installed, which produces energy that is permitted for free purchase by citizens of the Russian Federation. The use of a reinforced spring allows you to achieve higher energy when shooting. At the same time, when replacing the standard spring with a reinforced one, you should take into account the content of the Federal Law “On Weapons” No. 150 - FZ. If necessary, and guided by this law, you may need to obtain permission from the LLR of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
Russian air pistol ATAMAN AP16
ATAMAN rifles are one of the best air rifles produced in Russia today. Expanding its production program, the Moscow company has now supplemented it with the ATAMAN AP16 air pistol.
New air pistol ATAMAN AP16
The ATAMAN AP16 air pistol (the English abbreviation AP16 stands for “automatic pistol model 2016”) refers to weapon systems with pre-pumping. It is made according to a gear design, and the capacity of the reservoir fixed under the barrel is enough to fire from 20 to 120 shots, depending on the caliber and muzzle energy.
In the standard version (above) the pistol has a length of 366 mm, in the compact version (below) - 307 mm. The lower pistol is also equipped with an anatomical handle, which increases the width of the weapon from 30 to 40 mm. The height of both options is 139 mm
The maximum pressure in the tank is 300 bar; to control its value, a dial pressure gauge is provided at the front end of the cylinder. The 228 mm long barrel is manufactured by renowned barrel supplier Lothar Walther from Germany. It is rifled inside and has 12 grooves with a pitch of 450 mm.
Muscovites brought ATAMAN AP16 to the IWA exhibition for the first time, since the first batch was released only at the end of 2015
The ATAMAN AP16 pistol is offered in two of the most popular calibers for pneumatics, 4.5 (.177) mm and 5.5 mm (.22), and in three versions, differing in the amount of muzzle energy: 3 J, 7.5 J and 14 J (for caliber 5.5 mm - 20 J). In addition to the standard version, there is a compact version with a 170 mm barrel, as well as a version with a silver coating, instead of the standard glossy black oxidized coating.
The latter option was conceived as a luxury version, but the pistol with a black coating looked no less, and maybe even more noble, so the creators of the pistol abandoned this idea. Speaking of design, without a shadow of a doubt, we must pay tribute to the developers of the ATAMAN AP16 pistol, which satisfies all the requirements of technical aesthetics.
We should pay tribute to the designers of the ATAMAN AP16 pistol, who made a lot of effort to release a truly high-quality product to the market. It took three years of hard work
The pistol, in our opinion, is very beautiful and in the standard version with straight grips on the cheeks of the handle it looks like the classic Colt M1911, which can also be attributed to the undoubted advantages of the described model. Moreover, fastening the handle with a single screw makes it possible to easily replace it in accordance with the tastes and individual characteristics of the shooter, for example, with an anatomically shaped handle.
A useful feature of the AP16 model is a removable tank for compressed air, so that when shooting, the pistol owner can take several filled cylinders with him at once and, when used up, change them directly at the firing line. The volume of a standard cylinder is 108 cm 3 , a compact one is 60 cm 3 .
Safe handling of the pistol is ensured by a push-button safety on the frame (yellow button at the top of the handle). It is made double-sided and, when turned on, blocks both sears
The developers of the pistol used an interesting solution in the design of the steel reloading lever. It is located on the left side of the frame and is activated “biathlon-style” by moving the index finger of the hand free from the weapon. In the normal position it is recessed, so the possibility of involuntary cocking of the weapon is minimized.
The pistol is multi-charged and is fed from a drum magazine with 6 bullets. The weapon frame is made of durable aluminum alloy D16T, widely used in the aviation and space industries. The trigger of the AP16 pistol is adjustable, the force can be adjusted in the range from 2 to 10 N, the trigger stroke is 0.2...2.0 mm. The milled guide makes it possible to install various sighting devices, such as collimator or optical sights. The standard version of the pistol weighs just under one kilogram, and the compact version is about 200 g lighter.
The modular design of the pistol makes it extremely interesting for those who like to experiment with pneumatics
Depending on the design, the price of AP16 may vary and, according to the manufacturer, ranges from 50,000 to 55,000 rubles. This is not particularly cheap for an airgun aimed primarily at recreational shooting, but the model is certainly worth it due to its elegant design, impeccable workmanship, good balance, and decent and consistent accuracy.
Moreover, those who are seriously interested in plinking often make the mistake of buying the cheapest model first, and then, being disappointed, buy a more advanced and expensive weapon.

Description of the air pistol Ataman AP16 (compact, wood, PCP) 5.5 mm:
air pistol (compact, wood, PCP) 5.5 mm is an original development with pre-pumping from a domestic pneumatic manufacturer, notable for its high power, beautiful lines and non-standard handle shape. This is exactly what the handles of many 19th century revolvers were like, making the weapon an extension of the shooter’s hand.
The Ataman AP16 shoots with 5.5 mm lead bullets and has a drum magazine for 7 rounds of ammunition. The power of the shot is provided by a 60 cc tank. Maximum pressure – 300 atm. On one charge, the pistol can fire up to 50 shots. By installing a gearbox, the compressed air supplied is dosed, which maintains the power of the shot even when the tank is almost empty. A proprietary pressure gauge is installed to monitor the pressure level in the tank.
The pistol's side-cocking design allows cocking to be done with just one finger. The cocking lever is located on the left, and due to its immersion in the receiver, it will not be an obstacle to storing the pistol in a holster. Ataman AP16 operates in semi-automatic mode and has a push-button safety. Double action trigger, semi-automatic firing mode. The shot speed is 70 m/s, after strengthening the speed indicator increases almost 3 times, the potential of the pistol allows it to be modified. The trigger force can be adjusted from 0.2 to 1 kg.
This German-made pistol has an extended Lothar Walther barrel and has 12 grooves inside. Sights – adjustable front sight with rear sight. The presence of a dovetail strip on the barrel and on the receiver allows the use of a collimator or optical sight for shooting.
The main material of manufacture is milled aluminum, the handle is made of wood, with grooves for the fingers. The pistol weighs 0.8 kg, length 30.5 cm. The kit includes a repair kit with wear parts, a magazine, an allen key and a passport. Packaging: cardboard box with a convenient handle.
Ataman AP16 (compact, wood, PCP) 5.5 mm caliber is a beautiful and powerful weapon for sports shooting training, plinking fans, and also for bird hunting.

Air pistols under the Ataman brand are serious and dangerous weapons
There are four models of the Ataman pistol, produced in Tula by A+A LLC:
- Ataman with an integral magazine, 2004;
- Model M with detachable magazine 2006;
- M-1 2014;
- M-2 2022.
All pistols have the same gas supply design, which consists of a large cylindrical cylinder located above the barrel of the weapon. The cylinder can be pre-inflated with air or it can be filled with two standard carbon dioxide canisters.
The Ataman pistol with a detachable magazine has a charge of 133 bullets. Ataman-M with a removable magazine has a clip of 60 balls. These two pistols have already been discontinued. They have an interesting feature: the pistols do not have self-cocking. To fire, you need to press the trigger twice. The first time there is a platoon, and the second time there is a shot itself. In versions M1 and M2 this issue has been corrected.
Ataman-M1 has a magazine for 120 bullets. All these pistols are smoothbore. Steel balls are used for shooting. The Ataman-M2 has a rifled barrel and a clip capacity of 10 bullets. It fires round lead bullets.
In 2016, Demyan LLC began production of its Ataman AR16 air pistol, which is similar in design to the rifle of the same name from the same manufacturer. This is a purely sporting serious pistol with an ergonomic handle, designed for professional athletes.
Pneumatics with pre-inflation using a gear circuit. The cylinder charge is enough to fire 20-120 shots. There are two possible calibers 4.5mm and 5.5mm. Muzzle energy 3 J, 7.5 J, 14 J and 20 J for 5.5 mm caliber. There are six types of pistols in total. Without a license, you can purchase two models with a caliber of 4.5 mm with a muzzle energy of 3 J and 7.5 J.

History of weapons at A+A LLC
The Ataman air pistol was invented by Alenin, Akimushkin and Bulavintsev. The patent application was filed on December 17, 2001. The patent was published on July 27, 2003 under RF number 2209384. Production of the Ataman model began in 2004.
The shooters noted that loading the magazine was very difficult. Therefore, in 2006, Ataman M was released, which had a removable magazine. The pistol was equipped with two magazines of 60 rounds each. The following user reviews concerned the strange double trigger device in the M1 product.
This flaw was corrected in 2014. The pistol received self-cocking and an increased magazine capacity of 120 bullets. After the release of M1, production of Ataman and Ataman M was discontinued. Ataman M2 appeared in 2022, as a response to the release of Ataman AR16. This pistol is distinguished from previous models by a rifled barrel and a ten-round magazine with lead bullets. The characteristics of the two Atamans M2 and AR16 are very similar, as is their design. The AP16 is distinguished externally by the location of the gas cylinder below the barrel.
Damaging effect of a bullet (background information)
There is a forensic review of the damaging effects of a bullet depending on the muzzle energy.
- 0.06 - 0.08 J per mm. sq. causes abrasions and bruises;
- 0.14 - 0.17 J per mm. sq. causes superficial wounds;
- 0.32 - 0.36 J per mm. sq. delivers non-penetrating wounds;
- 0.54 - 0.6 J per mm. sq. causes penetrating injuries.
Through simple calculations, one can understand why the legislator requires limiting the muzzle energy of pneumatic weapons to 7.5 J. With an acceptable caliber of 4.5 mm, this is the maximum value that does not lead to penetrating injuries. At this energy, a bullet of this caliber will create an impact of slightly less than 0.5 J per square meter. mm.
It also becomes clear why samples with muzzle energy less than 3 J do not belong to air guns at all. The bullet creates an impact of 0.2 J per square meter. mm., which can only lead to superficial injury.
Lethal effect of the M1 model
As for the Ataman pistol, calculations tell us that its declared muzzle energy is 2.5 J. The magnitude of the damaging effect is 0.16 J per mm. sq., which corresponds to a superficial wound. This fact provides certain advantages to pistol owners.
In Russia there is liability for violating the rules of carrying weapons. Regarding air guns, sporting pistols and rifles, they are prohibited from being carried in a condition suitable for shooting. This means they must be unloaded and in the bag. You cannot carry them in a holster. You cannot have a connected cylinder and bullets in the magazine.
This does not apply to Ataman; he can be carried in a holster, with balls in the clip and with filled cylinders.
The second big plus concerns shooting outdoors. Since July 2, 2013, administrative article 20.13 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation on shooting on the street has been in force in Russia. Many people who shot at banks in vacant lots or fought off stray dogs became victims of this article. The penalty is from 40 to 50 thousand rubles with confiscation of weapons.
They invented it, supposedly against characters who like to shoot everywhere on the streets, and, as always, normal people suffer. Offenders continue to shoot where they want and how they want.
The chieftain is not considered a weapon, and you can shoot from it in a vacant lot or in a park. You shouldn't abuse this. Shooting in crowded places can be regarded as hooliganism - disdain for social norms using weapons. Just as in all cases of crimes committed with weapons, it does not matter whether the weapon was a military weapon or whether it was a lighter.
Operating principle
The trigger is practically without free play - you press lightly, and the shot immediately occurs. Pressing the trigger releases the sear from the spring-pressed firing pin (the spring is cocked by the bolt). The hammer strikes the valve stem, thereby releasing a portion of air compressed under pressure in the can.
Air passes through the bypass port and enters the bore from the PCP reservoir. The shot is fired thanks to compressed air, which tends to return to its original position before compression and pushes the bullet out.
In addition, the shot is very loud - the air makes a very loud bang as it leaves the barrel.
Model M2
The Ataman M2 pistol has completely different ballistic characteristics than the first model. Working pressure increased from 9 atm. up to 21 atm. The bullet speed reaches 250 m/s. The main thing is the use of lead ammunition, which weighs 0.5 grams. Thus, the muzzle energy of the weapon is about 15 joules. This is prohibited by law, but the manufacturer provides a certificate indicating that the pistol has a muzzle energy of less than 3 J. Thus, the owner of the weapon is relieved of responsibility for violating the law, but provided that he did not make any changes to the design.
The magnitude of the bullet impact is 0.6 J per square meter. mm, which is enough to cause penetrating wounds. This power corresponds to the power of magnum spring air rifles. This is exactly the energy that MP 512 M, the legendary Murka, has. During duck hunting, bullets pierce the bird from the sternum to the tail. When shooting at a pork carcass, the bullets pierce the skin and go deeper by 10-15 cm until they hit the bones.
Perhaps the recent searches in . The weapon turned out to be formidable, moreover, suitable for constant wear and not subject to prohibitive laws.
If caught with a gun
If you are caught with such a pistol, it is advisable to become a victim of an unscrupulous manufacturer. First you need to take steps that could position you as an athlete's shooter. Find some shooting range or shooting club and sign up there.
If there is no such thing nearby, create a group of sports pistol shooting enthusiasts from your legal VK page. Accept a few of your friends into the group and fill it with content. Send several letters to reputable shooters with questions about possible participation in some competitions. When asked by the investigator why there was a loaded pistol in the holster, the answer was that he was going to or from training and did it mechanically.
Documents for weapons must be kept. Cash and sales receipts and a manufacturer's certificate with the store's seal. Under no circumstances should I say that I have read any articles about the real muzzle energy of this pistol. In this case, you will probably be able to appear before the law as a victim of an insidious manufacturer who sold you a low-quality pistol that is structurally similar to a weapon. Which you use exclusively for sports.
Ataman M1 costs an average of about 4 thousand rubles. The Ataman M1U modification, with refill from a fire extinguisher, sells for about 5 thousand rubles. The price for Ataman M2 is about 11 thousand rubles. It is difficult to buy older versions of Ataman. There are practically no Ataman and Ataman M pistols left on sale.

Device
The Ataman AP16 pistol consists of a rifled barrel and a trigger mechanism, made by analogy with small arms.
The weapon is manufactured using a gear design and is equipped with a removable tank for pre-pumping air up to 300 atm. (enough air for up to 25 shots). The weapon is cocked using a lever mounted on the left side. The cocking system is quick and easy with a slight finger movement (with your left hand).
Scuba equipment is usually used for air injection - the air must be purified and dry. The design of the gun includes a reducer (gas distribution system), which reduces the pressure level during exit from the tank. Operating the pistol and reloading the reservoir requires special attention and care.
A stable level of gas pressure is ensured by a reducer installed on the way to the barrel. The pistol is equipped with a pressure gauge to monitor the pressure level in the tank during shooting or refueling.
