GAZ 3308 is distinguished by its high maintainability. The model has a simple design, and spare parts are always available for sale. The cost of repairs and maintenance is low. Despite the modified design and modern technologies, the GAZ 3308 retained some of the “sores” of its predecessor. The biggest questions are raised by sound insulation, which is practically absent in the cabin. Vibration and hum from the diesel unit are clearly felt by the driver and passengers even at idle. Suspension

The vehicle was built on a two-axle frame platform with dependent leaf spring suspension at the front and rear, as well as longitudinal semi-elliptical springs, which are complemented by double-acting hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers on all wheels.

The vehicle is intended for transporting workers. The Jaeger model, in turn, comes with a considerable number of special vehicles and equipment. Among them are the presence of cranes, lifts, firefighters, electrical installation equipment and others. On this platform there is a lot of special equipment, such as a paddy wagon, as well as vehicles that transport especially dangerous and explosive substances.

GAZ-33081 Vepris a military vehicle with an all-metal body. It was also created on the Sadko platform. This vehicle has truly outstanding characteristics that make us respect our auto industry. The boar can work in a wide range of temperature conditions, from +50 to -50 degrees Celsius. But this is not all his “trump card”. The car can safely move at an altitude of up to 4.5 kilometers above sea level. For many internal combustion power units, this height seems impossible, but the Vepr was able to prove itself well. The Ministry of Emergency Situations and law enforcement agencies began to use it successfully. Moreover, the machine is used for mining industries and geological services, which can climb to a higher site to carry out work. Farmers and simply fans of extreme cars could still appreciate the Boar. The boar was made only 300 kg heavier than Sadko.

Modifications

Sadko's car became the basis for creating other modifications:

  • GAZ 33081 -Taiga is equipped with all the necessary equipment for geological and exploration work, repair of power lines, and logging. The cabin has a berth. It is especially popular in Siberian latitudes.
  • GAZ 33081-50 is an onboard Sadko, created by order of the Ministry of Defense.
  • GAZ 33081 Eger-2 is a universal vehicle equipped with special equipment - fire protection, electrical installation, and load-lifting equipment. The cabin - two-row, four-door - is used for transporting workers.
  • GAZ 33086-Countryman is a modification of Sadko with double rear wheels. The model’s carrying capacity has been doubled – more than 4 tons.

All Sadko variations are all-wheel drive SUVs with a five-speed manual transmission.

Engine characteristics

Over the entire period of production, Sadko was equipped with two types of diesel engines. The basic package includes the installation of the MMZ D-245.7 power unit. This is a four-cylinder engine manufactured in Belarus. It is now produced according to the Euro-4 environmental standard.

Another engine is installed only upon individual order. A car with it acquires even more attractive qualities:

  • power – 135 l. With.;
  • maximum speed – 95 km/h,
  • fuel consumption – 13.9 at a speed of 60 km/h.

It has been assigned the latest Euro-6 environmental safety class. This modification has its own index - 33088.

Sadko is equipped with a mixed braking system - hydraulic and pneumatic. There is ABS and hydraulic vacuum booster. This gives maximum driving efficiency on different roads.

Transmission

Regardless of the installed power unit, the GAZ-3308 is equipped with a five-speed manual transmission. All gears (except reverse and first) are synchronized. The van received a two-way mechanical transfer case with a drive on both axles, as well as a reduction and direct transmission.

The clutch is hydraulic, dry. It is made of a friction type with a hydraulic drive. Trucks with a diesel engine are equipped with a diaphragm spring, and gasoline models are equipped with a peripheral spring.

About the history of the GAZ-33081 model

Despite the many years of successful use in the Soviet Army of the brutal all-terrain truck GAZ-66, it was replaced in the eighties of the twentieth century at the Gorky Automobile Plant by the development of a new all-wheel drive vehicle.

Its result was the launch into mass production of a car free of the main disadvantages of the 66th: inconvenient access to the engine for repairs; more than harsh conditions for the driver, in a cabin with poor ergonomics of the workplace and controls.

The basis was taken on the platform of rear-wheel drive trucks of the fourth generation of the Gorky Automobile Plant - GAZ-3307. This family, which replaced the GAZ-52 and GAZ-53, was developed during 1982-1986 and entered production in 1989.

At the end of the 80s, taking into account the increasing role of diesel engines in the production of trucks, as well as in connection with the need to modernize the GAZ-66, the plant was also working on a model of an all-wheel drive truck, with the possibility of using a diesel engine on it.

However, the destruction of the USSR and the subsequent upheavals of the 90s in Russia contributed to the fact that these promising developments reached serial production only in December 1997.

Cabin interior

Surprisingly, the car turned out to be quite comfortable, even in standard configuration. This is partly due to the spacious cabin, which makes it feel comfortable inside. As an additional option, you can purchase a customizable driver's seat, which will make the truck even more attractive.

The ascetic dashboard was made quite comfortable; for example, the steering wheel no longer covers some of the instruments, which fit neatly into it. Installing a hydraulic power steering wheel has significantly reduced the load on the driver.

On the passenger side, the interior does not particularly stand out; there is the same 2-seater sofa, but due to the size of the cabin, it is quite comfortable to move around. It is clear that the comfort level of the Taiga modification, which has a NEXT cabin, is much better, but this only draws attention to the fact that Sadko does not know the boundaries of perfection.

Inside the GAZ-Sadko 4x4 everything looks utilitarian, extremely simple, but practical. Getting into the car can present some inconveniences, since the cabin is quite high, and the factory does not provide comfortable handrails that you could grab onto. Perhaps even here Gorky’s specialists decided to save money.

For the driver and passenger there are two seats with quite comfortable seats, with soft upholstery and seat belts. It is worth adding that model 33081 is equipped as an additional option with a two-row cabin, which has a pair or four doors.

Modification with a pair of doors - the rear row of seats can be exchanged for a pair of berths, which will make it possible to use the truck for long-distance cargo transportation, or for repair teams where there are remote areas.

Exterior and interior

The truck has an all-metal cabin in 2 versions: two and five seats with an almost panoramic type of glazing, providing a good overview to the driver while driving. Between the metal grille there are 2 bright headlights. The large hood allows the driver to easily reach the engine compartment.

The hydraulic power steering makes it easy to drive. Using a special switch, the driver can easily disable the front axle without leaving the truck cab.

The interior of the car resembles a GAZ-3307. The dashboard is equipped with a minimal set of options, including a round-shaped speedometer and tachometer, as well as steering column switches.

A modified interior heating and ventilation system provides maximum comfort while driving at any time of the year.

The driver and passenger seats, with soft fabric upholstery, can be raised and lowered to the desired height if necessary. In addition, the seats are equipped with three-point seat belts. The interior also features a brighter lighting system and side pockets for storing small items.

A four-door car with a two-row large cabin, if necessary, can be equipped with two comfortable berths mounted instead of the rear row seats.

Price

The starting price for GAZ Sadko is considered to be RUB 1,330,000. This price tag is still higher than the price of the “Countryman”, which even has an increased carrying capacity. The difference is as much as 50,000 rubles. If we talk about other modifications with configurations, then you need to calculate this together with the manager when placing an order.

When you add to them various companies that are engaged in completing the construction of special vehicles and vans on the Sadko platform, the number of modifications can go beyond a thousand.

Power unit

Today there are three options for installing the engine on the GAZ-3308:

  • diesel from the Minsk Automobile Plant;
  • diesel from the Yaroslavl Automobile Plant;
  • gasoline from the Zavolzhsky Automobile Plant.

It is worth noting that it is the gasoline version that has proven itself best, which is purchased by the vast majority of customers. It is equipped with an eight-cylinder carburetor-type gasoline engine. The engine is capable of producing 122 horsepower, which is enough for the truck to easily overcome difficult sections of the road, such as steep climbs.

Many motorists note that when fully loaded, the car becomes less controllable. However, if the load is distributed correctly, no problems should arise. It should also be noted that the diesel version, unlike the gasoline version, has less power.

The engine is mated to four- and five-speed manual transmissions. They also install a mechanical two-way transfer case with direct and reduction gears and drive on all axles. The clutch is dry, hydraulic. The built-in carburetor has a pair of chambers. The presence of a liquid heater allows you to maintain the optimal temperature of the mixture, preventing it from overheating.

Advantages and disadvantages

The technical characteristics of the Sadko provide the truck with a number of undeniable advantages:

  • increased cross-country ability on dirt roads and off-road;
  • ease of control and control over the progress of the machine;
  • cabin comfort;
  • variability of the model range.

One of the key advantages of the truck is its technical simplicity and the absence of unnecessary parts. This increases the repairability of the car and reduces the cost of its maintenance.

Despite the significant advantages of the machine, there are also a number of disadvantages. The main attention is paid to the inconvenience of certain points:

  • there are no handrails for climbing into the cabin, although even the GAZ-66 had them;
  • to replace or overhaul the engine, you have to remove the hood and radiator grille;
  • The spare wheel is located in the body, which makes it difficult to replace when the car is fully loaded.

There are other complaints - the steering wheel is very large, the reversing light is not bright enough, the rear-view mirrors are not heated. However, such aspects are often subjective, many can be corrected by modifications or tuning the truck yourself.
