Review of video guide for the KV-1 tank World of Tanks
KV-1 is a representative of the 5th level of the Soviet development branch. This tank is the first heavy tank in the history of the USSR. The KV-1 took part in the Second World War and in the early years instilled fear in German tank crews, since in a real battle the KV-1 was almost impossible to destroy due to its thick armor. The steel monster perfectly combines excellent armor and weapons, but has poor visibility and dynamism. After upgrading this vehicle, the player will have 3 ways of further development: KV-2, T-150, KV-1S. It is recommended to study the KV-1S, since this tank’s characteristics are much better than others, and in the game it is the most popular among all.
Review and technical characteristics of KV-1
After the tanks of the first levels, this vehicle already has some kind of armor, mobility and a good gun. It easily ranks second in terms of armor among Tier V heavyweights. If KV-1 is in the TOP, he is a god! Advantages:
- thick all-round armor;
- different types of weapons (76 mm, 85 mm, 122 mm guns)
- good damage per minute (DPM);
- good for farming.
Flaws:
- poor speed and dynamics;
- low armor penetration;
- small review.
Historical summary
The KV-1S is a kind of “upgrade” of the Soviet KV-1 tank. The military often complained about the low mobility and reliability of this vehicle, so in July 1942, the Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant produced 2 prototypes of the KV-1S. In August of the same year, another 34 “kvass” were collected, in September – 174, and so on. A total of 1,088 KV-1S units were produced.
The name of the tank itself consists of two parts. The first, “ KV ” means “ Klim V oroshilov”. This was the official name of serial heavy tanks of the USSR in the period from 1940 to 1943. The prefix “ 1c ” stands for “ with a shortcut” modification of the 1st model of the series.
The designers managed to achieve increased mobility of the KV-1S by reducing its weight. To achieve this, the tank was slightly reduced in size compared to the original KV-1. Onboard bookings have also decreased. An observation turret appeared in the place where the tank commander was sitting. This improved visibility of the battlefield and increased the overall effectiveness of the equipment in battle. The armament of the KV-1S remains the same.
What equipment should be installed on the KV-1?
Let's look at what modules to install on the KV-1. A huge drawback of the tank is poor visibility. As a result, situations arise when you are “disassembled” blindly and even coated optics will not give anything. The increase is only 10%, which is 341 m, despite the fact that for some French ships it is 400 m in the basic version. With a pipe this is +25%, which is not bad. The rammer will help deal more damage, and the aiming drives will reduce the time between shots. I recommend the following package.
Basic arrangement:
- Gun rammer
- Stereoscopic telescope
- Reinforced aiming drives
Alternative arrangement:
- Gun rammer
- Anti-fragmentation lining
- Reinforced aiming drives
Naturally, the best weapon is the top gun. With its armor penetration, even BBsheks will be enough for you to destroy levels V and VI. With VII levels it is more difficult, and you can only fight them from an ambush, punching into the side and stern.
Or install a high-explosive weapon - here even tanks at a higher level cannot resist you. Damage guaranteed. Plus an increasing coefficient for dealing damage to enemies of a higher level. If you install a high explosive, then you must understand that although the damage is higher, the reload time is 3 times longer, the spread is higher, and armor penetration is worse. As a result, it seems like there is more damage per minute, but in a normal battle, a top weapon turns out to be more practical. In addition, if you take cumulative ones, then you will not see any farm - you will go into the red. But you will get pleasure from punching everyone like plywood boxes. But as always, the choice is yours.
Equipment selection
Economy assembly with minimal silver costs. We recommend using an Automatic Fire Extinguisher, as it will significantly increase survivability and save more hit points than a Manual Fire Extinguisher.
Equipment | Properties |
Small repair kit | Action: Repairing one damaged module or two damaged tracks. Can be used repeatedly. Preparation time: 90 seconds. It is written off after the battle if it was used at least once. Cost: 3,000 Credits |
Small first aid kit | Action: Treats one wounded tanker. Can be used repeatedly in battle. Preparation time: 90 seconds. It is written off after the battle if it was used at least once. Price: 3 000 |
Automatic fire extinguisher | Action: Automatically extinguishes fire in your own car. +10% to fire protection (the bonus is valid for the entire battle, regardless of whether the consumable was used or not). Preparation time: 90 seconds. It is written off after the battle if it was used at least once. Price: 20 000 |
To increase the efficiency of the tank, the last slot can be replaced with a Dop Rack.

Where to push the KV-1? Penetration zones and weak points.
Modules
First of all, we must upgrade the chassis of the KV-1S Bis. It will increase the tank's carrying capacity and turning speed.
The second point is the KV-85 tower. It will increase visibility and add units of strength.
Thirdly, the 122 mm D2-5T gun. Yes, he may have a low reload speed, but this is compensated by colossal armor penetration and damage for his level and not only!
Fourthly, the V-2IS engine will add 100 hp.
Well, we end with the 10RK radio. It will increase the communication range to 440 meters.
How to play?
First of all, I advise you to use auto-aim. In the turmoil of battle, when you are circled by the enemy's lt or st, there is often simply no time. And given the excellent armor penetration of tanks of your level, it doesn’t matter where you land - for you, any “firefly” is like cardboard.
The KV-1 is a very comfortable tank and is relatively easy to play. You have good all-round armor. Tanking with a diamond (side) and only with a diamond will help you realize it 100%, and good gun depression angles allow you to tank with a strong turret.
The main advantages of the tank
In WoT, the KV-1 is “famous” for its shortcomings, so it is often taken only by those who have heard about this machine in reality. But in fact, this model is not so bad, because it has very serious and important advantages that will help both you in a single confrontation and the whole team. For example, it is worth immediately noting the thick armor, which not any weapon will penetrate. But the most serious advantage is the wide selection of weapons. You can choose a light and fast-firing gun with not the highest damage, or a 122 mm howitzer, which will fire rarely, but is incredibly powerful. There are four different weapons in total, each of which can be used in a particular situation. So, from a tactical point of view, the KV-1 is a very interesting model that is definitely worth paying attention to.
Crew skills
The gameplay of a tank greatly depends on the choice of weapon. But usually players travel with the S-34, so this option is worth considering first. The KV-85 is not an armored tank, so it is not advisable to rush forward and attack the enemy. You need to carefully play with DPM at medium and close distances, periodically driving out from behind cover and shooting at enemy vehicles. An additional problem is presented by the vertical aiming angles: the gun only moves down 3 degrees. In most cases it will not be possible to use the terrain; to shoot you need to go all the way to the top of the hill.
The same can be said about the D-2-5T, only with the caveat that the KV-85 turns into an exclusively close-combat tank. At medium distances it is difficult for him to fire; even in order to properly hit a target at a distance of fifty meters he must first aim at least a little. But if you hit and punch, the blow will be sensitive regardless of the enemy’s level.
The tank is quite interesting, it provides the opportunity to both comfortably play for victory, and just have fun, causing a lot of damage at a time. This is why many players love him.

Armament
76mm ZIS 5
Rate of fire 15 Penetration 86,102,38 Damage 110,110,156 Dispersion 0.46 per 100m Aiming time 2.3s Conclusion: a gun with very poor penetration, relatively normal damage, average rate of fire but at the same time very, very oblique. I immediately advise you to replace it with a Project 413 cannon.
57mm project 413
Rate of fire 26.09 Penetration 112/189/29 Damage 85/85/95 Spread 0.34 Aiming time 2.3s Conclusion: Project 413 has good penetration, a crazy rate of fire and is quite accurate, but weak. Conclusion: the Project 413 gun is a typical “Hole Puncher” or “Needle Thrower”, who likes such guns, Project 413 is for you. Finally we come to the two guns that best suit this beast.
122mm U-11 "High Explosive"
Rate of fire 5.26 Penetration 61/140 Damage 450/370 Spread 0.57 Acceleration 2.9s Conclusion: this gun is an echo of the once mighty KV. Allows you to consistently deal 150 damage. even tanks like the AT 2, but you have to pay for it with a long reload and extremely low accuracy.
KV-1 with U-11 cannon
And finally, my favorite gun is the F-30.
85mm F-30 Rate of fire 12 Penetration 120/161/43 Damage 160/160/280 Spread 0.42 Convergence 2.9s Conclusion: The F-30 gun is quite fast-firing with good damage and sufficient accuracy. I would say the most balanced gun and the most ideal for the KV-1 will allow it to deal even 7 levels of damage.
KV-1 with F-30 cannon.
As a result, we get two top
The guns for this tank
are the high-explosive U-11
and the more or less balanced
F-30 cannon
. Everyone chooses what they like (personally, I chose the F-30).
A little history...
The appearance of this tank is somewhat accidental.
At the end of the 30s, the military and designers came to the conclusion that the future belonged to thick-armored tanks, but only France and the USSR managed to create such vehicles before the start of World War II. Since it was difficult to imagine such a monster without many firing points, the designers were given the task of creating multi-turreted tanks. During the work, it turned out that thick armor and multiple turrets together give a completely awkward weight, and the military gradually reduced their requirements from 5 to 2 towers. The designers created a two-turret tank with acceptable characteristics, but just in case, they made a backup version with one turret, smaller dimensions and thicker armor - this example was called the Klim Voroshilov, or KV. Both tanks were sent to the front in Finland... And the cumbersome double-turret SMK tank turned out to be such a failure, so successful was the KV! He freely overcame Finnish fortifications, being invulnerable from any direction and distance to any tank and anti-tank guns of that time. So the USSR acquired a tank, which, despite many shortcomings, remained the strongest in the world for two years. German troops experienced this firsthand after the attack on Russia. Most KVs were lost due to inexperienced crews or poor supplies, but in capable hands even a single tank managed to stop an entire division or knock out more than 30 enemy tanks in one battle. During the war, in order to increase the reliability of the tank, the KV was made lighter by reducing its armor. On the other hand, the Germans improved guns and shells. The KV-1 lost its main advantage - invulnerability - and was replaced by IS tanks. Material taken from the game "Blitzkrieg"
Reservation Kirovets-1
In terms of security, the new premium looks attractive. The strongest part is the frontal projection of the turret, where there are 175 millimeters of “honest” armor. In addition, the forehead is almost completely covered by the gun mask, and there are rational angles of inclination of the armor plates. The pleasant picture is complemented by the absence of clearly protruding hatches; therefore, the vehicle will be just fine to tank with a turret.
In the frontal projection of the body we have 120 millimeters. Despite the fact that Kirovets-1 does not have the characteristic “pike nose”, the tank does not look vulnerable or disadvantaged. The VLD has an excellent angle of inclination, which increases the reduced armor value.
Accordingly, by turning the body further and placing the frontal part at an angle, you can perfectly tank damage without fear of direct entry of a projectile. The sides are protected by 100 mm armor, complemented by a small screen. In principle, this is enough to turn the car into a small but invulnerable fortress when positioned in the correct diamond shape.
Results for Kirovets-1
So, based on the results of the preliminary analysis, we get some ideas about the capabilities of the machine.
Positive:
- Armor penetration.
- One-time damage.
- Speed.
- Reservation.
Negative:
- Accuracy.
- Dynamics.
- Review.
- No preferential battles.
How to obtain Kirovets-1 is still unknown, and in general, the feasibility of such an acquisition raises a lot of questions. In essence, the developers are offering another representative of the IP family, but presented under a different sauce. Of course, the tank promises to be a good farmer, but the monotony of the new products being introduced is starting to become boring.
