The Glock weapon system is very popular due to its high quality and excellent characteristics. This type of weapon was often used for filming in films. For a long time, no one dared to adapt these combat pistols to the traumatic system. In 2011, Target Technologies presented the world with a new traumatic weapon, the Phantom-T, made on the basis of the Glock 17, which we will talk about in today’s review.
It is worth noting that during the first period of sales, Russian consumers had to be content only with rumors about the quality of the new weapon, since it did not immediately appear on the domestic market. People tried to collect all possible information, made their estimates and waited until it became possible to purchase a “traumatic Glock.”
general information
The first thing that confused the average consumer was the place of production of this pistol. The development and production of Phantom-T was carried out by the Turkish company Target Technologies. Turkish weapons were viewed with skepticism on the Russian market after several seemingly failed projects.
However, some projects turned out to be failures only at the start of sales. The main feature of Turkish arms companies is their desire to enter into dialogue with consumers. They are ready to listen to all the feedback, collect a huge amount of information about the shortcomings and fix everything.
That is why, after a certain period after the start of sales, high-quality pistols begin to appear on the shelves, which take into account all the wishes of the average consumer. And if the weapon becomes less than ideal, it definitely has excellent quality.
There were great concerns on the part of gun lovers due to the fact that before the start of sales of this gun, information appeared about the material from which the bolt would be made. It was planned to make the shutter from light alloy metal. Ultimately, the bolt was made of high-strength steel and turned out to be strong and reliable.
The weight of the weapon was reduced for comfortable carrying thanks to the frame of the weapon. They made it out of plastic, but equipped it with a skeleton made of steel. A small negative point is associated with the use of plastic in the design. After firing, marks will remain on the body, however, as practice shows, they will be carefully disguised by the texture of the plastic.
General information about the pistol
At first, there was skepticism among the mass consumer. The fact is that previously, some Turkish companies have already tried to put on the market the traumatic weapons they produced, and each time it ended in failure, curiosity and mocking comments from consumers. The traumatic weapons produced in Turkey were no good.
However, Turkish manufacturers very quickly drew conclusions from their embarrassment and established a creative, fruitful dialogue with potential buyers, taking into account all their sensible comments about the traumatic weapons they produced. Target Technologies did the same. For example, initially the shutter of the future Phantom-T was supposed to be made of a special light alloy. However, after listening to the opinions of future weapon buyers, Turkish designers used high-strength steel to make the bolt.
But Turkish designers made the pistol frame using their own know-how. In order to make the pistol lighter, it was decided to make the frame not metal, but plastic. True, there is a metal frame inside the plastic.
Phantom-T ammunition
The Turkish company initially planned to produce two versions of the gun chambered for different cartridges. Charges of 9 mm PA and .45 Rabber were to be used. Also, the two versions of the Phantom were supposed to have different magazine capacities - 15 and 9 rounds, respectively.
Many fans of traumatic weapons were greatly intrigued by this news, since the market could receive two high-quality pistols at once, but with different characteristics due to different ammunition.
However, in reality everything turned out differently. The gun received 10x22T cartridges and a magazine capacity of 10 charges. Overall, the result was something average from all the rumors. These charges had good power, which was enough even to defeat the enemy in winter, when he was wearing thick clothes.
This also has its downside: using such a powerful weapon in the summer, when the attacker is not protected by thick clothing, can lead to problems with the law. Serious penetrating injuries, including serious damage to internal organs, can be caused.
Ammo
The two modifications mentioned above were the idea of Turkish manufacturers. It was planned to design a pistol for the popular 9mm PA load, as well as for .45 Rubber. The magazine capacity of the first modification is 15 rounds, and the second - 9. This news was received with some enthusiasm, since both cartridges had excellent performance.
As a result, the first models were designed for 10x22T cartridges, and the magazine capacity could accommodate 10 rounds. It turned out that the designers averaged the expected indicators. As a result, we settled on the unpopular 11x22T cartridges.
It should be noted that 10x22T cartridges showed high impact capabilities. A pistol shot with such a cartridge could stop an attacker even through winter outerwear. But this fact was perceived negatively by a certain part of the public. In the summer, a hit from a pistol can cause significant injury to the enemy, even penetrating wounds. In this case, the gun owner will certainly have problems with the law.
Phantom-T design
Of course, Turkish engineers tried to preserve as much as possible the main mechanisms from the combat counterpart and, frankly, they did a good job. This affects the high reliability of the pistol and a high supply of working resources, which is enough not only for self-defense, but also for regular sports and recreational shooting.
The trigger mechanism is made on the principle of double action. Shooting can be carried out either by self-cocking or from a pre-cocked hammer. The barrel bore in Turkey was taken care of in a special way, depriving anyone experienced of any opportunity to fire with live ammunition. For this purpose, four barriers were made in it.
The thickness of the barrel walls is 5 millimeters; there are certain features here. The false trunk itself has walls with a thickness of 2.5 millimeters. Another 2.5 millimeters is occupied by the liner - a steel liner, which is made from a mixture of weapon steel, chromium and molybdenum. The liner increases corrosion resistance, extending the life of the pistol.
Target Technologies takes care of the safety of every buyer of its weapons. To do this, they introduced three automatic fuses into the Phantom-T. To be able to fire a shot, the shooter must lock the lever, which is built into the trigger, and the button, which is located on the handle, by firmly squeezing the handle of the gun. Thus, an accidental shot cannot occur even if the trigger is fully pressed, which is a definite advantage for a traumatic pistol.
On the left side of the frame there is a bolt stop lever and a magazine release. As mentioned above, the magazine holds 10 rounds and is built according to a box-like design. A sighting mechanism is standard here. The Turks did not try to split hairs in this regard and made a fixed front and rear sight, which is quite enough for targeted shooting. Complete disassembly of the pistol is carried out in exactly the same way as the Glock 17.
Under the barrel on the frame there is a special guide that allows each Phantom-T owner to install additional tactical devices. These include, for example, a laser sight or a small flashlight, which increase the effectiveness of the weapon in the dark.
The technical characteristics of this weapon are as follows:
- For shooting, 10x22T cartridges are used;
- The total length of the pistol is 200 millimeters;
- The length of the pistol barrel is 114 millimeters;
- The height of the weapon is 140 millimeters;
- The width of the pistol is 30 millimeters;
- The weight of the unloaded pistol is 850 grams;
- The magazine holds up to 10 charges.
Design features
For some time now, the conversion of combat weapons into traumatic ones began to go beyond the law, so the creators of the Phantom pistol had to develop the weapon completely from scratch. But the idea of maximum resemblance to a combat Glock remained dominant.
The similarity with military weapons directly affects the reliability and lifespan of a traumatic pistol, and in a positive direction. That is why such models are suitable not only for use in extreme situations, but also for regular use during recreational or sports shooting.
The type of trigger mechanism is defined as a double-action mechanism, which means that you can choose one of two firing modes: self-cocking or pre-cocking. The barrel bore is equipped with four inserts at once; they are designed to hold a live cartridge bullet. The barrel manufacturing technology deserves special attention. The wall has a total thickness of 5 mm, as it is made in two layers. The outer layer is the false trunk itself. Its thickness is 2.5 mm. Inside it there is a steel liner also 2.5 mm thick. This liner is made of an alloy of steel, chromium and molybdenum, this composition is very resistant to corrosion.
What can be concluded from the review?
The Turkish company took an excellent military weapon as the basis for the new traumatic pistol. A high-quality product was made that is highly reliable and has an excellent supply of working resources. In addition, Target Technologies took care of the appearance of the gun, preserving the design of the Glock 17 as much as possible.
The Phantom-T pistol has good power, which allows it to be used as the main weapon for self-defense. However, one must remember that in the summer its power can cause serious harm to the attacker: from open wounds to serious damage to internal organs. This could lead to problems with the law.
The dimensions of the weapon do not allow it to be classified as compact; carrying a pistol concealed is impossible even if you want to. It is best to use a holster for regular carry. In the first weeks, the impressive weight of the weapon will cause discomfort, but after a month or two you will no longer pay any attention to it.
Specifications
Tactical and technical characteristics are the main indicators included in the passport of any weapon. Using the given values, each amateur will be able to choose the model that best suits his requirements.
- As already mentioned, pistols are currently produced chambered for 11x22T caliber. Initially, the Phantom was designed for 10x22T cartridges. The increased diameter of the ball has greater impact force while reducing the likelihood of causing a penetrating wound.
- The dimensions of the weapon are one of the determining factors. The fact is that many connoisseurs of real combat examples want to see a modified copy in natural size. Indeed, the menacing appearance of a pistol in the hand can impress an attacker, although there are known cases of outbursts of aggression. But this does not mean that compact models have not found their consumers. For concealed carry, as required by law, it is necessary to choose small-sized models with a streamlined shape. The length, width and height of the Glock pistol are 20 cm, 3 cm and 14 cm, respectively.
- With the indicated dimensions, the barrel length of the Glock pistol is 114 mm. Note that the longer the barrel, the more stable the trajectory the bullet acquires after passing through the inserts. This means that we can talk about high accuracy of fire, which means an increase in the targeted shooting distance.
- The weight of the pistol affects its stability during firing. The greater the mass, the more inert the weapon. It is less susceptible to reactive force, which is more often called recoil. But heavy models require certain physical preparation. It is very difficult to hold the pistol for a long time while aiming. Phantom-T belongs to the category of medium-weight weapons. When discharged, the weight is 850 g.
- Finally, the last characteristic, the meaning of which is limited by law. Developers and manufacturers have made the most of such a value as the number of cartridges in the magazine. Pistols from a foreign manufacturer with larger magazines do not undergo certification in Russia, which means they cannot be registered.
Pros and cons of the model
First of all, users note the complete similarity of the Phantom-T model with the Glock-17 combat pistol. There is an increased quality of manufacturing of the mechanisms. Even compared to models of purely domestic production, the Turkish pistol has a certain advantage. Reliability is also considered the “calling card” of the Phantom, like the Glock. The resource declared by the developers is at least 6000 shots.
For comparison, you can consider the Walter P99 model, which is made of similar materials. Its firing capacity is only 200 shots.
The Phantom can be disassembled and assembled without the use of special tools, which simplifies the procedure for caring for the weapon. Finally, all users mark the target firing range. Its practical value is 15 meters. For trauma, this is a very respectable indicator.
Disadvantages include excessive force on the bolt release button, as well as unnaturally easy operation of the clip latch. The owners wanted it to look exactly the opposite. It’s easy to accidentally hit the magazine release button, and the clip falls out even if there are no cartridges in it.
Insurance against the use of live ammunition did not benefit the model. The manufacturers decided that the shutter should be made of aluminum alloy. Only in this case will it be destroyed when live ammunition is used. However, even when firing rubber bullets, the bolt experiences heavy loads. The transition to non-standard 11x22T ammunition moves the pistol from the mass market category to the exotic category. Here the manufacturer harmed himself.

Practice of using traumatic weapons in the Russian Federation
Weapons are used for self-defense.
There are known cases of the use of traumatic weapons for illegal purposes.
- According to Harry Minkh, the representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the State Duma, “over five years on the territory of the Russian Federation, traumatic weapons were used in the commission of 1,500 crimes; as a result of the use of traumatic weapons, 60 people died and about 600 were injured and injured.”
- later, deputy head of the DOOP of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, Major General of Police L.V. Vedenov clarified that from 2005 to December 29, 2010, traumatic weapons were used to commit 2,000 crimes; as a result of the use of traumatic weapons, 65 people died and about 485 were injured.
- On March 22, 2012, the head of the main department for ensuring the protection of public order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, Police Lieutenant General Yu.N. Demidov said that “since the introduction of so-called traumatic weapons into circulation, since 2004,” about 2 thousand crimes were committed using traumatic weapons, about 100 people were killed and about 500 were injured. However, the use of traumatic weapons against combat weapons in a shootout on Rochdelskaya Street not only had no stopping effect, but also cost the lives of those who used them.
It should be taken into account that in the above cases, the statistics of “victims” do not separate criminals and their victims; the general list includes all types of illegal actions with weapons (that is, the dead and wounded due to attempted suicide, as well as accidents during handling weapons).
Despite the relatively short history of the use of self-defense weapons in Russia, legal practice has been replenished with various striking facts.
