Review of the Hatsan Mod 25 Supercharger air pistol

The Turkish company has successfully combined high accuracy, accuracy and initial bullet speed in its samples. This made it possible to create a budget-friendly and powerful breaking pneumatic Hatsan Mod 25 Supercharger, which occupies an intermediate position between massive guns and small-sized pistols.

History of the pistol

The armory, located in Izmir, was founded in 1975. Its founder, at a young age, in his father’s garage, himself made a certain pneumatic device that shot darts. The next stage was the semi-handicraft production of single-barreled shotguns for hunting, which, however, were popular with friends, and then, with the expansion of the enterprise and the installation of new equipment, throughout the country.

But the real breakthrough occurred in 2000, when the company conquered the world market. Today the share of exports is about 90%.

It has often been written on the Internet that Hatsan is actively developing weapons for the national army, but this is hardly true. A small family company, although today it already employs about 500 employees, is not yet able to compete with such a large concern of the Turkish military industry as MKEK.

But in the Hatsan model range there is one semi-automatic machine, which is popular in security companies, cash collection and intelligence services. This is “Escort Guard” in different modifications.

Since entering the international arena, she has returned to the production of pneumatic models. One of the first guns was the Hatsan mod 55S pneumatic gun, which is still manufactured today, and the Hatsan Mod 25 Supercharger, a breakthrough pistol. Initially and until now, the small enterprise follows its own path. Unlike numerous companies, it does not copy popular models from other manufacturers, but creates shotguns and pistols from scratch.

Technical characteristics of Hatsan Mod 25 Supercharger

Design

The production of air pistols is not a very common specialization for, known to many buyers due to the large range of rifles. The creation of a single-shot breakthrough pistol was received ambiguously by pneumatic enthusiasts. The pistol became popular among connoisseurs of powerful models; they were attracted by the budget price and the original solution of the company’s designers.

The pistol can be used for hunting small animals and birds, as well as for entertainment, mainly for plinking. Sports use of pneumatics is almost excluded due to their very heavy weight. Holding a weapon for a long time in one hand is almost impossible; it is most convenient to use a double grip, which is not used in sports disciplines.

The pneumatic design is a traditional spring-piston system, which includes a barrel, a muzzle box with a trigger and a cylinder. For comfortable grip of the pistol, there is an ergonomic plastic handle and a short stock, unlike rifles. The trigger is gold in color and is located inside a polymer guard.

The front and rear sights are equipped with colored fiber-optic fibers. The sighting bar can be adjusted horizontally and vertically, allowing you to quickly make adjustments when shooting (no need to use a screwdriver). The height adjustment design of the front sight increases the efficiency of zeroing with bullets of different shapes and weights.

This model has a recoil damping mechanism, which is a design with a movable shutter. Even in contrast to less powerful spring pistols, vibration during shooting is low, which significantly increases accuracy.

The safety is located near the trigger guard, like most airguns. The automatic safety switch is activated during reloading and protects against unexpected release of the trigger.

To dampen the noise of a shot, a sound moderator can be attached to the muzzle of the receiver. When screwing it in, you must first remove the plug that protects the thread. The moderator is made of steel and reduces the force when charging the spring, increasing the length of the lever.

Recharging is carried out under the action of a transmission lever, which moves the cuff, piston and compresses the spring to the outermost part. The bullet is loaded into the barrel breech, which is equipped with an O-ring seal to avoid air leakage during firing.

The trigger force is adjusted using the hexagon included in the package. It is not recommended to set the force to a minimum, this way you can avoid an accidental shot when the pistol is dropped.

To fire a shot, you need to move forward the safety, located in front of the trigger. The mechanical fuse is switched on automatically after loading the bullet. This is not always convenient during active shooting, but it makes the weapon safer to use.

Device

The body of the Hatsan mod 25 Super Takit pistol is solid, despite the large number of protruding parts.
It is made of impact-resistant black plastic. The handle has finger grooves and a “shelf” for the thumb, which is not always convenient: each person’s hand size and finger length are different. In addition, the “shelf” is located on the left - so only right-handed people will be able to use the pistol comfortably.

On both sides of the handle there is a hard rubber pad with a fine notch - for a more secure grip. There is also a notch on the fore-end.

Fixing and removing the stock is done using one button. By pressing it, you should install the base of the butt inside the intended groove, after which it will go into the hole. Fastening with one button is not very reliable: over time, play may appear.

The butt itself (also plastic) is implemented very conveniently: it has 6 positions. The first is the initial one (when it is completely folded) and 5 more are adjusted in stages. The adjustable length is 10 centimeters, you can change it by pressing the button located on the right.

The butt has a rubber butt pad and a double-sided (convenient for both right-handed and left-handed) cheek pieces. Cheek – adjustable in height. To do this, you need to loosen the two slotted screws, which are located on the right side of the butt, next to the butt length adjustment button.

There is a wheel on the base of the front sight - you can use it to adjust its vertical position. The rear sight is adjustable in two planes, for which there are two drums on top and to the right of the bar. In addition, it is possible to install a collimator or optical sight - for this purpose, there is a milled “dovetail” on the metal cylinder.

The trigger guard contains a trigger (large, golden color) and an automatic safety. It blocks the trigger when cocked, and to fire you need to move the “tongue” forward.

Advantages and disadvantages of the model

The pneumatics are in a cardboard package with the inscription “Hatsan”, wrapped in polyethylene or special paper. Standard equipment includes:

• hexagon for adjusting the force of the trigger mechanism;
• muzzle (silencer);
• user manual.

Operating principle

The spring-piston mechanism structurally consists of a cylinder, inside of which a piston moves, pressed by a spring. When the shooter breaks the barrel, the piston is retracted back along the cylinder, compressing the spring, and is installed on a stopper that prevents its reverse movement. At the same time, the chamber opens, where the bullet is manually installed.

When the trigger is pressed, the piston breaks off the corkscrew, and the force of the expanding spring quickly pushes it along the cylinder. The air that is in the cylinder exits at high speed through the barrel, pushing the bullet out.

Hatsan Mod 25 Supercharger disassembly

To perform the upgrade and to clean the gun you need to disassemble:

• unscrew 1 rear screw and 2 side bolts on the handle;
• remove the cheeks on the handle and unscrew the muffler;
• remove the muzzle box from the stock, setting the bolts aside;
• knock out the pin on the back stop and release the spring;
• remove the trigger block by knocking out another pin;
• remove the cocking rod from the groove, remove the cuff and piston.

It is not advisable to disassemble the trigger mechanism yourself; reassembly often causes certain difficulties. The barrel should be cleaned every 600-700 shots, and all parts and components should be lubricated every 300-400 shots.

There is also a modification without recoil, but with a good, removable butt. The model is called Hatsan 25 SuperTact.

First impressions are quite pleasant. Everything looks made of iron, the parts are massive, as if they didn’t skimp anywhere, although the first impression turned out to be deceptive, but more on that later. The center of gravity is located a bit high. I would like to see less rolliness. Locking the barrel is traditional for the Turks. The oak bolt is small in diameter, with a very sharp tongue, while the bolt has a relatively weak spring. Everything is not like with people, it opens easily, close it, you'll slam it shut :)

The force of the platoon is not that great, no more than in the same Benjamin Trail Pistol. Rather, there is not enough ratchet here, as in the IZH53, since towards the end of cocking the front sight begins to interfere, and you want to intercept it. But the platoon kinematics themselves are well developed. Split cocking rod, significant cocking angle. All this allows you to reduce the force as much as possible, taking into account the rather weak mainspring. The muzzle, which can be screwed onto a standard 1/2-inch thread, also makes cocking easier.

The trigger mechanism also leaves a pleasant impression. The mechanism is truly two-stage, adjustable according to the ratio of the shoulders in a very wide range. You can set up a traditional release with warning. You can disable both the first and second phase of descent. In this case, the trigger mechanism is completely safe, works correctly at any amount of overlap and returns to its original position when the shot is delayed. This is without a doubt one of the best triggers you will find on a recreational pistol. The photographs show that the trigger has been slightly changed compared to the rifle trigger, but the design remains the same. In the factory setting, the trigger force is about 800g

The shot is again quite soft for such a pistol. The Recoil Reduction System works, but a little less than expected. The essence of the system is that the bed is divided into two parts. Iron is attached to one, the other is in the hands. One part moves relative to the other along the grooves. But there is no sign of a rollback in the classical sense here. Between the two parts there is a fairly powerful spring, which tends to return the parts to their original position. The spring only stretches the initial impulse from the acceleration of the piston and does not allow the system to fully extinguish it. But the second component of recoil, the arrival of the piston in the forward position and, consequently, the overload from changing the direction of movement of the piston, is completely removed by the system. The result is a rather interesting effect. Instead of the expected behavior, we get a push back, similar to the recoil of a small-caliber pistol.

Now let's look at disassembly.

First you need to unscrew three screws and remove the stock.

And the first thing that catches your eye is the long block of the trigger mechanism. Plastic:( As you can see, the Turks already made a mistake somewhere at the factory and the mounting holes simply do not match.

Next, press out the back pin and release the spring.

Now you can remove the trigger block and take a closer look. To do this, we squeeze out the same pin where the mounting holes did not match and move the block back.

As you can see, the block is held on by two small ears and one pin. Sad and unexpected. Especially considering the fact that plastics do not tolerate frost well. Just in case, if you remove the fuse, do not lose the small ball and spring under it.

After removing the rod from the groove, or after removing the barrel, you can pull out the piston. The piston, again, is a smaller copy of a rifle piston, the mass of the piston is about 160g. The cuff is similar to Hatsan70 and other models with a 27mm compressor. Piston stroke 47mm.

One of the disadvantages of all Hatsan was the overly rigid, non-elastic cuff. Starting around mid-2022, the cuff material has changed. The new cuffs are significantly softer and more elastic; the cuffs are painted red.
