Application of collapsible metal bridges

The development of projects for prefabricated bridge structures of the RMM - 4 series was carried out in the first half of the 20th century, for the needs of the army. Design elements

The main assembly units of RMM - 4 are sections: end and intermediate - in the form of steel spatial trusses made of channel and corner profile. The function of the end sections is to interface with shore supports and supports. The bridge deck of the superstructure is assembled from the intermediate sections.

The intermediate assembly part has the shape of a regular parallelepiped, consisting of rectangular lower and upper frames. The frames are assembled by welding from channel beams. In the standard version, a profile of a special series C is used. The frames are connected by vertical posts made of angle steel. The structure is strengthened by horizontal lintels and diagonally located braces and hangers, both in the plane of the frames and in the space between the posts.

The upper frame has brackets with holes for assembling sections with bolts into a structure of the required length. On the lower frame, the connecting unit is arranged in welded shaped gussets with holes for fasteners.

The design of the end section has a reinforced upper channel frame and 2 horizontal posts connected to opposite corners of the frame by angle beams. Thus, the side planes of the end section have a triangular shape. Spatial connections and reinforcements similar to the intermediate section. Side parts of the end element:

  • most of them have a size and connecting nodes adapted for connection to the structure;
  • beveled allows you to rest on supports.

Modern combat operations are characterized by high dynamism and difficult road conditions due to the large number of artificial and natural obstacles and obstacles. There is a need to overcome them, including by building or building bridges and crossings for heavy equipment (tanks, tractors, cars, etc.). Because bridge construction requires time and materials, it is often unacceptable in a rapidly changing environment.

The solution is to create mechanized bridges. An example is the TMM-6 heavy mechanized bridge developed by the Omsk Mechanical Engineering Design Bureau and produced by the Transport Engineering Plant.

TMM is designed for constructing bridge crossings over water barriers and dry land obstacles up to 100 m wide and up to 5 m deep and for passing troops, wheeled and tracked vehicles weighing up to 60 tons across them. Mechanized bridges are used both during combat operations and during evacuation measures, liquidation of consequences of accidents and natural disasters.

TMM consists of a bridge laying machine and bridge blocks. A bridge layer is an all-wheel drive off-road vehicle (8x8 wheel arrangement), on which equipment and mechanisms for transporting and installing a bridge block are installed. The mechanism drive is hydraulic, with power take-off from the main engine of the vehicle. The bridgelayer is equipped with a filter-ventilation system to protect the crew from dust when moving through radioactively contaminated areas and is equipped with modern means of communication - a radio station and an intercom.

The bridge block consists of a double-track span that folds in half and a telescopic support. The length of the opened span is 17 meters, the telescopic support is self-adjusting to a height of 2 to 5 m. The drive of the mechanisms that open and fold the span is hydraulic, from the hydraulic system of the bridge layer. Docking and undocking of the hydraulic systems of the bridge laying machine and the bridge block is automatic. The design of the bridge block and the special mechanism available on the bridge layer make it possible, if necessary, to reduce the transverse dimension (width) of the bridge block during transportation. Two-link tracked conveyors "Vityaz" are designed to operate in difficult climatic conditions of the Far North, Siberia and the Far East on soils with low bearing capacity (swamp, virgin snow, off-road, rugged wooded areas) at temperatures from +40 to -50°C. All-terrain vehicles have two welded sealed body-links. The first link contains the crew cabin, engine and transmission compartment and body. The second link can be made in the form of a body for transporting goods, crew or mounting technological equipment and weapons. The machines have a hydromechanical transmission with a single-stage hydrodynamic transformer, which ensures a smooth change in the transmitted torque depending on the movement resistance. The design of the rotary coupling device allows the machine links to rotate independently in horizontal, vertical and longitudinal-vertical planes. A distinctive feature of the design is the vertical and horizontal folding hydraulic cylinders located on the rotary coupling device, controlled from the driver’s seat. Horizontal folding hydraulic cylinders act as a rotating device, providing high maneuverability. Vertical folding hydraulic cylinders are both shock absorbers (ensure high smoothness when moving) and a device for forced folding of links in a vertical plane (allow you to overcome vertical walls up to 1.5 m high). The possibility of forced blocking of vertical folding hydraulic cylinders allows you to cross ditches up to 4 m wide. Rubber-metal tracks with steel crossbars provide low specific ground pressure (from 0.16 kg/cm2 to 0.3 kg/cm2, depending on the model) and high maneuverability. The independent, high-energy torsion bar suspension of the original road wheels with sponge filler creates a smooth ride.

The modification with the letter “D” is equipped with a Hyundai D4BF turbocharged diesel engine with a volume of 2.476 liters and a power of 83 hp. s., characterized by a maximum torque of 196 Nm. The machine has TREKOL wheel gearboxes with disc brakes. Optionally installed: centralized wheel inflation, water-jet propulsion, winch, autonomous interior heater and other equipment. The load capacity on dense soils is 700 kg, on weak soils and afloat - 400 kg. Maximum speed on the highway is 70 km/h.

One of the all-terrain vehicles shown at the exhibition was paired with a TREKOL-8901 tilt trailer. Like the all-terrain vehicle tractor, the trailer is produced on low-pressure tires. Its load capacity is 300 kg. The trailer is able to overcome small water obstacles. The floating properties of the trailer are possible due to the displacement properties of the wheels. UBM-85 combines the functions of a crane, a drilling machine and an installation for driving screw piles, can be equipped with a cradle for lifting people, and is suitable for installation on any chassis. In pile driving mode, the machine can drive up to 6 piles per hour.

The BM-811M drilling and piling machine combines the functions of drilling and driving piles. Installed on various chassis. It is used for drilling wells in soils up to category IV in the conditions of the Far North, construction of pile foundations for buildings and structures, power transmission line supports and bridges, oil and gas pipelines. The rotating platform allows you to obtain several wells without changing position. The longitudinal movement of the platform ensures maximum precision in approaching the drilling point and bringing the pile to the driving point. Drilling is performed without dismantling the hammer. The crane winch is used to install and remove augers and lift the pile. The telescopic extension of the 8-meter auger allows drilling a well up to 15 m deep.

The design of a heavy mechanized bridge is intended for constructing bridge crossings over obstacles up to 40 m wide and up to 3 m deep, the maximum weight load is 60 tons. The second GAKZ machine is the universal pile-driving unit USA-2, also from the category of new developments. Although its premiere took place a year ago, interest in it is still high. The USA-2 unit was created on the basis of the KS-55729-5M truck crane with a lifting capacity of 32 tons and is based on the KAMAZ-65601 chassis (8x8). The machine is capable of crane, piling and drilling operations, it can also screw screw piles and work with a cradle to lift people. At the Army-2016 forum, GAKZ demonstrated the USA-2 complete with a diesel hammer MSDT-1250. Load-lifting equipment for military purposes was represented by the GAKZ KS-65713-5M truck crane with a lifting capacity of 50 tons on the KAMAZ-65601 chassis, as well as by the Klintsovsky Truck Crane Plant JSC truck cranes: KS-55729-7M with a lifting capacity of 32 tons on the KAMAZ-65601 chassis and KS-45719-7M load-lifting ness 16 tons on KAMAZ-53501 chassis.

The bridge layer TMM-3 (tmm-3) was created by the Omsk Design Bureau of Transport Engineering. The heavy mechanized bridge set TMM-3 (tmm-3) consists of four bridge laying vehicles based on Kraz 255B all-wheel drive wheeled vehicles, three of which carry bridge blocks with supports and one vehicle carries a bridge block without supports. When building a bridge, the permissible longitudinal slope of the bridge is no more than 10°, the transverse slope is no more than 6°. For supports, the permissible slope along the bridge axis is no more than 30°, across the axis - no more than 20°. The bridge can be removed from any bank.
